hypercalcemia?

pathophysiology of hypercalcemia
----------

Pathophysiology??? Sounds like someone looking for an easy out on a homework assignment. The answer is in your textbook. I'll never understand why people come here to get homework done. As I always say... Your instructor didn't ask the question because they don't know the answer. They ask questions so you'll do the research necessary to find the answer. Doing research is the key to life long learning, and true intellect.  (+ info)

Can you get hypercalcemia through your diet?

I may need to be on a soft diet for awhile. I will be eating lots of milk products-e.g. yogurt, mashed potatoes, pudding, ice cream, cheese, Ensure shakes, etc. Do I need to worry about getting hypercalcemia from these things or does the body naturally excrete excess calcium?
----------

I don't know your reasons for this diet, but you may be interested in some different options. I have had great results with an all natural product called Isagenix.

This product is only available by distributor.

I've been diagnosed with hypercalcemia, how much weight will I lose?

I'm already quite thin (91lbs, 5'5") and I'm worried that I will lose too much weight because of the hypercalcemia. My doctor isn't prepared to give me many drugs to stabalize my condition (various allergies and heart problems), so in the mean time, I don't want to lose any weight. I've actually been trying to gain.
How can I do so?
----------

Do not start eating tons of junk food. Eat a lot of red meats and starchy veggies.  (+ info)

Can hypercalcemia and hyperglycemia be related?

Are there any common causes of both?
----------

High uric acid is often also associated with the above. As are kidney stones and gout. This may be seen in acidic environments, linked in with the metabolic syndrome.

There are specific diets to follow for high uric acid, which include avoiding red meat and alcohol.

Following a diet tailored to reduce insulin resistance/Type 2 diabetes, hypercalcemia, and uric acid is important. You can find specifics online or refer to a dietitian. Weight loss and hydration are also important.

Less commonly, I belive hypercalcemia can occur with diabetic ketoacidosis, seen usually in Type 1 diabetes.

Type 1 diabetics are also more prone to other autoimmune endocrine disorders, which may include the parathyroid gland and affect calcium levels.  (+ info)

multivitamins, lots of fruit/veg; is it poss that i could get hyperkalemia, hypercalcemia?

I take one centrum, and one 600mg calcium supplement each day along with a balanced diet that includes alot of friuts/veg. I was wondering if it was possible for me to get hyperkalemia or hypercalcemia, or will my kidneys just excrete the excess vitamin/electrolytes?
----------

Good question. Well your liver and kidneys can put up with a lot, but some things they just cant process. Like for instance too much carrots can turn you yellow, and thiamine acid can turn you reddish, but it would take a lot to do so. Also each person is different so consult your doctor. Bit from my point of view eating healthy is OK, just REALLY mo niter those supplements because accidents happen, and it could really hurt you. Your best bet is just to go talk to a doctor or nutritionist  (+ info)

what is the difference between hyperparathyroidism and hypercalcemia?

Hyperparathyroidism is an abnormal condition of the parathyroids. They release excessive amounts of PTH, parathyroid hormone, and this in turn pulls calcium from the bones and increases serum calcium levels (calcium in the blood).

Hypercalcemia is a condition of high levels of calcium in the blood as a result of a disorder or malignancy of the parathyroids.

The difference is that one causes the other.  (+ info)
