Often, I can't tolerate loud sounds that are normal to others. What might be causing this hypersensitivity?

Movies in the theater are intolerable without earplugs, and when commercials come on tv - they turn the volume way up - it is so loud all of the sudden that it hurts. I often have to ask people talking in normal voices to tone it down.

Is it possible for a male to have human seminal plasma hypersensitivity?

If so, what would happen
----------

Diagnosis and treatment of human seminal plasma hypersensitivity.
Lee-Wong M, Collins JS, Nozad C, Resnick DJ.

Beth Israel Medical Center, the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, NY, USA.

BACKGROUND: Human seminal plasma hypersensitivity is a rare disorder that is often misdiagnosed. While this disorder is well described in the allergy and immunology literature, few cases exist in the gynecologic literature. CASE: A young woman presented to our allergy clinic with recurrent vaginal burning, swelling, and itching occurring approximately 10 minutes postcoitally. Semen allergy was suspected. Using her partner's semen, intradermal testing produced 1.6-cm wheal and 6.0-cm flare. The patient underwent intravaginal desensitization, and she and her partner were instructed to have intercourse every 48 hours to maintain desensitization. At 5-month follow-up, they were practicing coitus interruptus with success. CONCLUSION: Human seminal plasma hypersensitivity may mimic chronic vaginitis. The intravaginal graded challenge, a form of immunotherapy used by allergists, remains a mainstay in treatment, but is only effective if maintained correctly.

Can dry skin cause skin hypersensitivity?

In the winter, I usually get dry skin from mild-medium in severity. Sometimes I get these patches of skin that are painful when touched and rubbed, like a sunburn feeling almost. They usually resolve on their own in a day or two. The area that hurts has no rash and isn't red, just looks dry and feels rough and painful. The pain only hurts if the area if touched and I usually not notice it if I don't rub/bump it.

So can dry skin cause this hypersensitivity?

Thanks everyone!
----------

Yes your hypersensitivity in that are can be caused by the dry skin. I have the same issue during the winter, specifically between my calf and ankle. I too have sensitivity in those areas and it feels better with a topical treatment, either lotion or a triple antibiotic ointment. I typically use gold bond extra strength medicated lotion for my dry skin and it works really well. The best relief I have yet to find. I also included a website about dry skin, causes and treatment. Hope this helps.  (+ info)

How can hypersensitivity due to multiple sclerosis be reduced?

I was diagnosed with MS with Transverse Myelitis in September. Since then every spot on my body has bee stings and every spot is overly sensitive to anything that I touch, be it something cold that feels hot or something that should hurt but does, such as these computer keys. I take Copaxone and Avonex through a trial, but I've had another attack since Sept. I have taken 22 different seizure drugs and anti-depressants, which are supposed to work on this type of problem, and IV lidocaine. Nothing has aleviated or even lessened the pain. Any suggestions?
----------

All those medications might actually have aggravated the situation.

Warm water. I know it will hurt a bit at first, but stand in a warm shower, lukewarm at first if you prefer, and just let the water run on you for about fifteen minutes (or shower as usual.) I have personal experience with pains and sensitivities and that helps me most days. Soy milk also helps on really bad days. It's like it has some natural reliever in it or something. Sip on plain water all day...and you'll hate it coz it aggravates some things maybe, but a nice drink of sweetened coffee. Let it sit a bit if you must. Exercise a little bit more every day and you will be so tired at night you have to sleep no matter what (without dealling with the pain.) Good diet of fruits, veggies, lean meat, water....

Your doctors should be helping with this some more. Try getting an impartial doctor's opinion of what needs to happen maybe?  (+ info)

What would cause hypersensitivity to alcohol and a hangover after just having a drink or two.?

What would cause someone to have a hangover after having one or two drinks? My wife has developed this problem lately. She has been diagnosed with GERD and was a heavy drinker in college. However, these days if she has more than one drink she has a big hangover (nausea, headache, weakness) the next day. Is there another possible cause?

Would foreskin restoration help somebody with hypersensitivity?

A friend of mine is curious about foreskin restoration, but he is already really sensitive, he reaches climax quite quickly and would really like to be able to last longer. I kind of think that he may be hypersensitive because of being cut (he has an almost completely intact fren). Do you think restoration would help or hurt?
I'm not referring to surgical restoration. He is interested in skin expansion.
----------

Depends on your friends age. I was circumcised at birth and didn't seem to notice the loss of sensitivity until I was in my 40s. The really bad part about circumcision is that when a guy gets older (mid-40s for me) the penis loses sensitivity because the parts that are normally protected by the foreskin are exposed and rub against clothing.

I have since restored my foreskin and life is good again. Sex is much better with a foreskin. My female partner used to get sore from sex and we needed lubricant. Now, she does not get sore and we don't need lubricant. We both enjoy sex a whole lot more.

I notice that with a restored foreskin, sex is a lot different. The gliding motion with the foreskin stimulates me differently so that the pleasure builds and stays. Then I can push myself over the edge and I have an orgasm that hits my whole body!

Before I restored, I ejaculated. Now that I am restored, I have orgasms.  (+ info)

Can elimination diets for allergies cause hypersensitivity?

My daughter (1.5yrs) recently was diagnosed with a dairy allergy - she's been having milk products this time and she rarely had any huge side effects. My son tonight fed her a mini cheese rice cake and she's been awake throwing up and I was just wondering if removing an allergen from the diet could cause her to be even more sensitive to the allergen when she's had it reintroduced to her?
Just wanted to clarify that she has only thrown up twice....and it wasn't unusual for her to throw up when she has had large amounts of cheese but nothing this small.

what's the treatment or cure of hypersensitivity if i hear someone talking or someone doing a task?

i don't know if hypersensitivity or hyperirritability would be the correct term but i can find myself so easy to be distracted if hear someone talking or even a single noise.
----------

It sounds like your problem is the same as mine and I relate it to inability to concentrate when there is noise, especially music!!!

However, here are details on hypersensitive hearing:

Continuous and loud noise is a source of irritation to most people. However some people have especially sensitive hearing and are unable to tolerate ordinary levels of noise. This can occur in people with normal hearing, or in those with a hearing loss. There are different components which can contribute to sensitive hearing hyperacusis, phonophobia and misophonia recruitment. Our knowledge based on the Jastreboff model and desensitization techniques developed in the 1980s now allows effective treatment of hyperacusis and misophonia.

Is a hypersensitivity to heat going to kill me?

My family came from a snowy arctic. although not raised in the arctic, I was raised in a cold place too. The highest degrees there were 80. but mostly it is 40-60.

Anyway, when I moved to this hot climate the AC wasn't working. I have to admit I cried because I felt certain I would die. The temp outside was 100 degrees. My fingers swelled like sausages. And I never felt so delirious and sick in my life.

I have noticed I have a preference for ice cold. And when I go to the gym and its too hot, I am miserable and I overheat. My face turns red to purple.

Is this some kind of disease? Whats going on here?

I am wondering how I will survive this summer, even though I have an AC.
----------

Heck it won't kill you...Don't worry. It takes time to adjust to sudden changes in environment. So be careful not to expose yourself to the new environment at once, but eventually start opening up to the heat.

Then your body will slowly increase the levels of your heat resistance. In 6 months or so I suppose - You will be like everybody else.

Beware... Give yourself at least 6 months time - Don't lose heart. Changes that occur slowly, stay longer... All the very best ☺  (+ info)

What is the function of Redirinse Mouthwash in hypersensitivity in teeth?

It attempts to occlude the exposed dentinal tubules and thus reduce the sensitvity. It is not very effective and will have to be used for a long time to notice any effect. good luck  (+ info)
