Left ventricular hypertrophy dangerous?Please help?

Hello, in the summer I was diagnosed with MVP and Left Ventricular hypertrophy.I also had a big anxiety.Usually I have lots of heart skippings and this makes me mad.I really scared of LVH because I heard that this could be related with sudden death. My cardiologist did test , EKG, ECHO, and she gave me some beta blockers.Do you think if my LVH would be related to sudden death she would be telling me that?Because I really scared, and I google it a lot. Please help I m only 19! :(
----------

If your MVP and LVH are mild, then the medications like beta blockers will keep complications away.
Beta blockers slow your heart rate, reduce blood pressure and prevent some of the harmful effects of stress hormones.

Abnormal heart rhythms like skipped beats are common with LVH due to any cause. If the beats are not frequent they may not cause problem.

Just because you have LVH, you are not going to heave complications shortly. With proper care you can avoid them. If the MVP is significant, a valve replacement will not only cure it but also the LVH will go away.

Talk to your doctor if you have:

Shortness of breath
* Chest pain
* Sensation of rapid, fluttering or pounding heartbeats (palpitations)
* Dizziness
* Fainting
* Rapid exhaustion with physical activity.
Good Luck.  (+ info)

Left ventricular Hypertrophy..13 yr old duaghter. make-a-wish?

I have a 13 year old that was diagnosed with left ventricular hypertrophy. SHe is now experiencing near-syncope while exercising. The d.r said that if she has another episode to bring her back. Is this considered a chronic life-threatning condition? The make-a-wish foundation is for children ages 3-18 diagnosed with life-threatning medical conditions. For example:cancer, arthritis, um heart conditions(but i dont know which) and for other conditions such as sickle cell anemia..etc.

I dont know if she would be eligible or not. Her walls are thicking at a fast rate: .3(cm i think thats the measurement) in 6 months. She is seeing the cardiologist every 4 months now. She is taking Atenolol.

BTW, this is not my account, this is my other daughter's account.
----------

I would've expected her to be on more than just atenolol, at least an ace inhibitor like acupril and spironolactone. It's usually a four drug therapy that's recommended. The textbooks have it as an "End of Life Condition", I believe that this year's Merck manual says that 70% of patients die within five years of diagnosis but some people manage to recover. I was diagnosed with Congestive heart Failure secondary to Dilated Cardiomyopathy in 2001 so my heart walls were thinner than they should be not thicker but otherwise pretty much the same thing and I've made it eight years so far.

What's your daughter's Ejection Fraction. They start talking about heart transplants when you get below 30% on the EF but a low EF isn't the end either. Mine was 15% when diagnosed and I responded to the drug therapy program well enough to get back to 50% within a year.

I see my Cardiologist every four months too. I think it's a fairly standard frequency for these cases.

I suppose that you could give the foundation a call to find out if she qualifies but have some hope, she could still see her 21st birthday some day maybe even her 90th birthday.  (+ info)

Left Ventricular Hypertrophy?

Im 14 yrs old and Ive been going to the cardiologist for about three years. The first two years it was just a aheart murmur. Last year he found mild mitral valve regurgitation. They did the holter monitor and stress test. That was January 2009; Then he says o come back in 6 months to see if to treat me elevated blood pressure. So I ccam eback for the appointment today and I gave him my calendar in which I have my BP recordings from January until Now. (he told me to do that). Then he said that he needs to repeat the echo to see that the BP didn't worsen anything. So he did the echo and found that my MR hadn't worsened but now he found mild left ventricular hypertophy. He said it was casued by the BP , and that my heart getting larger. So he prescribed medicine for the BP. So I got this hypertrophy in a 6-month period of time?I thought enlargment of the a side of the heart developed slowly like in a year, not 6 months.? I will see him again in 2-month's time to see if how I respond to the medicine. So just educate me on all this please.
----------

This sin't the place to get educated, cuz I doubt anyone in here went to med school as long as your doctor, however, as a nursing student, I can tell you that there is never anything normal to expect from any type of problem like this. Sure, I'm sure that in many cases the hypertrophy develops in a year's time. But that doesn't mean that it couldn't develop in six months. Also, the human body is a very complex machine, and it's very possible that it was overlooked before. That sounds scary since it's your heart, but this isn't just like changing a tire.  (+ info)

Mild Left Ventricular Hypertrophy?

About like a year ago i was having high blood pressure issues... So i went to the doctor and found out i had sleep apnea... I also got an ECHO done by a cardiologist and it was found out that i had mild left ventricular hypertrophy? Can someone explain what this is to me and how can it be treated?
I'm am having some weird feelings around my heart area now as well...
And also, if it matters i haven't been using my sleep apnea mask lately because i've lost about 40 pounds so.
----------

Increase in blood pressure means that the heart has to pump against higher pressure than normal. So the heart muscles enlarge. This is called left ventricular hypertrophy. Unless severe, this will not cause any problem. It just indicates that you need to control your blood pressure better. With good control of blood pressure, the heart muscle size decreases to normal.
The funny feelings around your heart may be indicative of coronary artery disease. See your physician and get it evaluated. Most probably, you will be asked to do an exercise stress test.  (+ info)

2 year old with Left Ventricular Hypertrophy?

My son had a EKG done 4 days ago which showed left ventricular hypertrophy, they then did an x-ray which showed normal. They sent us to a pediatric cardiology clinic to get an echocardiogram done today. She did the echo, and when she was done she said the results would be sent to his pediatrician within 2 business days. She said there was nothing serious enough to keep him in the hospital. I asked " So did his heart look normal? You didn't see any thickening?" She said " I didn't say that, I said there was nothing serious enough to keep him in the hospital." The cardiologist will look it over and you will get a call within 2 business days. I know I only have 2 days to wait but to a mother who has already waited nearly a week...that is forever! I am very worried about my son. I have hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, but it did not show up until adulthood. I have read that if it shows up in childhood it is usually more serious. Is this true? What is the probability that he has cardiomyopathy since the technician said it was nothing significant enough to put him in the hospital? Please, Please, anyone who has any information please let me know. And please do not tell me to ask my cardiologist, or tell me not to trust my sons health to yahoo.... I know this. I am just looking for some insight while I am waiting to hear from the cardiologist..... Thanks.

Right vetricular conduction delay voltage criteria for left ventricular hypertrophy? Will I die?H?

Hello, I just had my ECG done. And I started to cry, because I m so anxious.I had panic attacks for year, anxiety etc. Now the ecg sais this - Right vetricular conduction delay voltage criteria for left ventricular hypertrophy. Inferior infarct. Will I die? Or will I get an infarct? Is it dangerous?I have MVP too is this is due to this? Please writte me back.I m so anxious. Sorry about my English.

Thanks
----------

Accurate ECG interpretation is critical. Basically, there can be three types of problems with heart muscle- ischemia is a relative lack of blood supply (not yet an infarct), injury is acute damage occurring right now, and finally, infarct is an area of dead myocardium. The prognosis often varies depending on which area of the heart is involved. An anterior wall myocardial infarct generally has a worse prognosis than an inferior wall infarct. The MVP is not the cause of the inferior infarct. If the MVP was severe you would not be walking around or asking questions on Yahoo Answers. Electrical signals in the heart must take specific paths within the heart muscle and reach specific areas of the heart at the right time (and voltage strength) in order for the heart to function normally. In your case the signal must pass through or around an area of damaged or dead heart muscle tissue which can throw off the timing and amplitude of the voltage.
The electrocardiogram is a useful but imperfect tool for detecting LVH. (left ventricular hypertrophy) The ECG is relatively inexpensive and widely available but has its limitations. Those limitations relate to its moderate sensitivity or specificity depending upon which sets of criteria are applied.
Echocardiography is the procedure of choice for diagnosing LVH. It can also permit the doctor to quantify LV mass and give important information about the etiology of LVH (such as aortic or mitral valve disease, or hypertrophic cardiomyopathy). However, the ECG may be used when echocardiography is unavailable or too expensive. In your case it would seem an echocardiogram is in order. Will you die from this condition? You cannot receive a meaningful answer in this forum. Only your cardiologist can give you more specific information after all the tests have been done and he(or she) studies the results. It depends on the extent of the damage caused by the infarct, the severity of the MVP and of the left ventricular hypertrophy. LVH is something that occurs over a period of many months or even years. Depending on your physical condition and the extent of the MVP, the mitral valve can be surgically repaired or replaced. Time to have a long and detailed talk with your cardiologist. Take care and try not to worry until you know you have something to worry about. (I know, easy for me to say) I apologize for the lengthly answer.  (+ info)

what is concentric left ventricular hypertrophy?

Hypertrophy in medical terms means enlargement of the size and concentric means all round. In terms of heart, concentric LV hypertrophy means that the muscle of the left sided pumping chamber of the heart has increased in size and thickness. This usually occurs because of either high blood pressure or any obstruction to the outflow of blood from the left heart. Commonest example of latter is narrowing of the valve (aortic valve). I suppose only your doctor can tell you as to the real reason of this LV hypertrophy. Remedial measures can only be taken once you know the cause of LV hypertrophy.  (+ info)

Left ventricular Hypertrophy and exercise?

Im 14 years old and I was diagnosed with that yesterday. Cause: hypertension, now being treated with atenolol. The cause of my hypertension is unknown. My cardiologist told me that. Iam NOT fat or anything, I don't eat wrong. I keep a low-slt diet and everything. So I was just wondering if people with this condition could exercises? Cus Im taking what's called Health class this year and we MUST take the physical test for a grade. And Im not a sporty person at all. I don't exercise at all(but Im still fit). So I have to run for 8 minutes straight around my school gym like push-ups and sit-ups and do alot of straneous activities in a period of like 3-4 days. Is it good for me to do that? I didi this last year and I felt SOO out of breath(last year I did not have ventricular hypertrophy) So now that i have it, what should I do concerning this physical test? I don't see my doctor for another two months. The dr also said that there would be a chance I would faint while on the medicine. Please help. I don't wanna take that test. IT really hurts.

P.S. I also have mitral valve regurgitation and arhhythimas.
----------

I would absolutely NOT do this without your doctors approval. Your heart is already damaged and if it has to work hard during an exercise regimen, it could mean bad things, like you passing out, or worse. Speak with your doctor first!  (+ info)

what is 'left ventricular hypertrophy'?

this is the finding on an ECG
----------

Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is an enlargement of the left pumping chamber of the heart and may be due to several different things. The most common cause is high blood pressure. Other causes are due to exercise (athletic hypertrophy) and congenital (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy or HOCM).  (+ info)

Is normal left ventricular systolic function with possibly mild left ventricular hypertrophy what is this i

is this a filtered impression ?
What is suspicion of mitral valve prolapse with mild mitral regurgitation. Explain. Either the valve collapsed or not. No in between.

This can not be a normal study yes or no? please advise.

On a bruce protocol exercise test for 6 minutes aand 9 seconds patiet achieved stage 3 of Bruce protocol. maximum heart rate 175 beats per minute for a 20 year old what should his heart rate be?Maximum blood pressure 150/70 EKG at peak exercise showed sinus tachycardia with no ST-Tchanges indicative for ischemia. (Ineed to know if this is possible it looks fuzzy!. Bi arrtthmia noted occasional aberrant beats noted. double product calculated at 29050 Total METS achieved was 7. In recovery period the EKG slowly returned to baseline at a minute and one-half into recovery operiod. Blood pressure was 160/61 with heart rate of l71.. Shortness of breath resolvd comopletely. significant reduced funcitonal capacity. Adquate B/P & heart rate response to exercise...
