What are the signs and symptoms of left sided heart failure due to decreased cardiac output?

What are the signs and symptoms of left sided heart failure due to pulmonary congestion?
----------

Left sided heart failure causes blood to back up into the lungs, which cause shortness of breath. It's usually a systolic heart failure, meaning the problem is in the left ventricle and it's inability to pump effectively to maintain cardiac output to perfuse the body. A way to understand symptoms is to think forward from the left ventricle: cardiac output is insufficient to deliver the needed oxygen and nutrients to the cells, so there will be fatigue, weakness, reduced ability to exercise, decreased ability to concentrate, decreased urine output, etc. Then think backwards from the left ventricle: blood backs up into the left atrium, then into pulmonary system. This causes shortness of breath with activity, or when you lie down, persistent coughing and white or blood-tinged sputum (phlegm), weight gain from fluid retention, just to name some.  (+ info)

What is this pain im suffering on the left side of chest ( right near heart ) when i sneeze ?

It is really bad like a heart attack , only been suffering it for the last 2 weeks .Pain also goes up in left shoulder and left upper arm .

I had open heart surgery 8 years ago .
----------

((CareBear)), first, we all love you here, and don't want anything to happen to you. I don't think you should panic over this, but do call your doctor and be seen by him/her. I seriously doubt you're having a heart attack. Like the other answers said, we are not doctors. Even if we were, a doctor would tell you to go be seen by one. It could be anxiety but you only mentioned it happening when you sneeze. It could be something not heart-related, but an upper respiratory ailment, or something else minor and easily taken care of. Just best not to take any chances. You'll feel a lot better after you see your doctor. I have really bad anxiety sometimes, and I know how it is to worry about things. Let us know how you are. xxoo  (+ info)

Is sleeping on your left side bad for your heart?

I heard recently that sleeping on your left side is bad for your heart. Is this true or pseudo-medical? I have attempted to look into this in medical journals but I have not found any information. I generally sleep on my right side but rotate between sides when sleeping. Thanks...
----------

It has been suggested that sleeping on your left side places undue pressure on your heart and that is supposed to be bad.

As long as you don't have any heart problems it shouldn't really matter but if you have heart problems it would be better to sleep on your right side.  (+ info)

Any complication if the human heart is on the right side instead of left..Its advantages and disadvantages pls

We have a baby born today with its heart on the right side instead of left side. So just wanted to know whether this is normal or abnormal and by what %age. Wanted to know its advantages and disadvantages.

If the heart is on the right side along with total left right inversion of all organs, it is known as mirror image dextrocardia. This situation is equivalent to normal. So you have to check with your doctor.  (+ info)
