My fiance has X-linked recessive ichthyosis does this mean I could now carry the condition?

Obviously I mean is it sexually transmitted, or does he just carry it and it would be passed down to our children? I know it is passed down through the females, but I don't know much more.
----------

No you won't get it. However, if you have the recessive gene as well, you run the risk of having children with the disease.  (+ info)

Why are people born with Harlequin type ichthyosis disease born with red eyes?

and can they see through them?
----------

It is a rare genetic skin disorder. The trait is thought to be autosomal recessive; ie, the defect is on a non-sex chromosome, and the condition will only manifest if both parents contribute this defective gene.

The red eyes, you are thinking of harlequin ichthyosis foetalis
Because the foetus's eyes are highly susceptible to trauma, they often bleed upon birth, thus giving them the bulbous red-eye appearance. Their eyes need to be continually protected using ophthalmic lubricants

The babies can see and with modern medicine many have made it into adulthood.  (+ info)

is there a way to prevent harlequin ichthyosis before it occurs?

or a way to reduce the chance..? thanks.
----------

no there is no way to really prevent it, its really really extremely rare condition and "before it occurs" you can only be born with it not develop it later in life, it may be hereditary but still its rare,

im not sure you know what Harlequin Ichthyosis, and i really dont think you have it because you would know this answers by now if you did,

but if you scared of getting this disease, like i said you can only be born with it and if somebody has it you can instantly tell they do by their appearance, there is no "when will i get it" its like being born without an arm, same with harlequin ichthyosis, your born with the deformity at birth

Ichthyosis Vulgaris - How do you deal with it?

Do you have this? How severe is it? How do you deal with it during the cold winter? What is the best remedy you have so far?
----------

WebMd has some links for treatment of this scaly disease. I do not personally know the best remedy. I would pull it up and read everything I can on the internet.  (+ info)

Could harlequin ichthyosis be a government experiment gone wrong or some type of hybrid human?

Go to youtube.com and watch 2 videos: snake baby and reptilian alien mutant baby.
While you're there, check out Area 51: Interview 06.
----------

It's a dermatologic disorder- not a conspiracy or mutant.  (+ info)

What are the chances of getting Harlequin Ichthyosis?

For you 0%

This is a very uncommon condition that you are born with. Plate like scales all over the body at birth. Babies rarely live for very long with this condition as their skin isn't formed very well.  (+ info)

Anyone here have ichthyosis or have a child that does?

My 6 year old son was diagnosed with ichthyosis when he was just 2 years old. I've always been able to keep his skin looking pretty good until this winter. His legs and his belly are the 2 spots that look the worst. If you have this condition, or have a child that does, can you give me some good tips on how to get the dead skin off without hurting him? What products do you use to keep your skin looking good? Any help would be great. He's getting old enough now that he gets a little embarrassed by his skin sometimes. Thank You :)
----------

I do. :/

I bathe myself with Cetaphil, and use Eucerin lotion and it looks good until the winter months.  (+ info)

Is it possible for females to get X-linked ichthyosis?

I've got a feeling I've got it. One of the back of my legs looks scaly and dark, and it feels dry. It looks similar to the pictures I've seen.
----------

It's possible, but much less likely than a male getting it. Basically, both of your parents would need to be carriers or affected. Your Dad would definitely have it. In actuality due the genetic nature of it, there are a few other ways a female could be affected too. It's my guess you're probably just psyching yourself out by looking at pictures, so the best way to know is to have a doctor check it out.  (+ info)

how does one get harlequin ichthyosis?

How is it that a baby winds up getting such a horrible disease?
Is it genetic? or is it because there is something wrong with the temperature? or did the mother eat some chinese food while pregnant? what?
