What makes the illusions that Hypochondria creates so real?

i used to be a hypochondriac, and it came from an incident in my life. my grandmother raised me, and was misdiagnosed for years until she went to a different physician on a whim and he found that she had lung cancer, and had for quite some time.
i think that because of that, i didn't trust ANYONE to diagnose me. Not doctors, not myself. I would always end up thinking "i know it's just a headache, but it could be a tumor".
since i went on anti-anxiety medication for a while a few years ago, it's almost gone. i also have some pretty great physicians. i think anxiety and hypochondria really thrive on each other.

It seems I always get headaches while looking at them. Not like ones that don't move but ones that movie in circles or things you have to stare at.

Are there any optical experts out there that can tell me why your eyes have 'illusions'?

I looked at a drawing today that is used for the purposes of optical illusion. It was not animated, but was moving anyway! (That's the point...) The only time it would stop moving is when I would look at one spot, but if I kept my focus just slightly off of the pic, it looked like the pinwheels were moving slowly.

How does this happen?
More than likely, that is a trick of the mind, rather than the eye. The brain is designed to focus on motion and to fill in the missing parts in a complex image. That gave us an advantage when we were looking for tigers hiding in the bushes. But it also gives rise to false motion when we look at certain images - like the one you were staring at.

If someone can't perceive optical illusions, are they autistic?

I know a child who is very hard to fool with an optical illusion. Her agemates will take very long to soak it all in and then go "oooh-aaah", but she has already seen the visual trick. Sometimes she can explain quite clearly why the image or figure is wrong.
And with those optical illusions which are supposed to make the image seem as if it is moving or rotating, or the lines aren't parallel or something -- she just doesn't see the movement or the distortion. Says "it's all straight".
I'm worried she may have some kind of deficiency or has some kind of autism.
Clearly a concrete thinker. Expect her to be a engineer, mathmatician, accountant or scientist.  (+ info)
