How to treat deep vein thrombosis of the lower leg?

Urgent! My friend has a swollen leg after a flight. Doctors discovered that she has a thrombosis and there is a real danger of this clot causing trouble. She undergoes a heparin injections treatment.
Is this the best solution? How to heal this throbmosis?! Thanks!
----------

The heparin is the treatment, it keeps the clot from progressing while the body breaks it down.

Eventually she should be switched over to warfarin, which a pill that acts similarly. This therapy would usually last about 3 months

DVT's are common, and are mainly dangerous when they're not recognized early, it seems like your friend got treatment in time  (+ info)

What is the best way to combat deep vein thrombosis?

What is the best way to help prevent me from getting deep vein thrombosis or blood clots in the legs when I get older?
----------

I do not know what age you are. Likewise you state when I get older as in any specific age? Perhaps 60, so how many years are we taking about? Likewise do you have any health problems like high Cholesterol? Do you smoke? Are you over weight? The other person stated taking aspirin, but if you are allergic to it, say no more. If you take it over a prolonged 30 years, say no more. If you take aspirin you are risking other side affects like dying from a serious hemorrhage, so without more information, I cannot answer this question. Good Luck  (+ info)

How long does it take a hemroidal thrombosis to heal after removal?

I am 36 weeks pregnant and was wondering if anyone had a protruding hemroidal thrombosis removed. I feel like there is still a bump and was wondering how long this takes to heal. Also wondering if anyone experienced alot of pain the day after procedure? I am worried about going into labor and being scared to push because of this.
----------

If it doesn't hurt anymore you do not have to surgically remove it. The spontaneous healing takes about 1 week. If you go to surgery, it will heal in 5 to 6 days. The standard procedure will remove only one of the several external hemorrhoids. The problem with hemorrhoids might persist during pregnancy and after. The definitive treatment should be a few months after birth. Please send me email and tell me how did you manage this problem.  (+ info)

Is there a natural remedy to prevent deep vein thrombosis in the legs?

My friend (she is just 27 years old) recently had a deep vein thrombosis. The doctors suspected that the anti baby pill may have caused it. I'm wondering if there are natural remedies/cures how to prevent something like this. Right now she has to take very strong medications (blood thinners), but she doesn't want to take them for a prolonged period of time.

Are there natural cures? Is there a good website or book about this?

What is the main cuase of ischemia and how is it linked to myocardial infarction, along with thrombosis.?

Also with atheroma.

Im cofnused with the following terms and how they relate to cuasing myocardial infarction:
1)ischemia
2)thrombosis
3)atheroma
----------

The buildup of atheroma or fatty plaque in the wall of the coronary artery narrows the lumen of the artery resulting in ischemia or inadequate blood flow to the heart. The atheroma may ulcerate releasing materials that cause blood to clot on the surface of the plaque. As the clot enlarges it totally obstructs the artery causing a myocardial infarction or death of cardiac tissue downstream to the obstruction.  (+ info)

Could it be linked to my Deep Vein Thrombosis or is this Normal?

I am age 34. Last year i had a deep vein thrombosis. Last week i had a scan to show residual clot's that have remained in my leg in a few places. My menstrual periods are every 3 weeks. I discharge large Blood Clots during my period every month. Is this normal or is it related to my DVT? A dull question, but do the clot's disperse this way?
I finished all anticoagulants october 2009.
----------

Theres no connection. People mistake what a period really is. Its not really a clot when your menstrating. Its a mass of shedding of the layer of your uterine wall.  (+ info)

how can I best prevent pulmonary embolism if I have a deep vein thrombosis?

I've been nursing a severe sprain for 2 weeks and harbor all the symptoms of thrombosis, but am home alone with no phone. My closest neighbor is hundreds if not thousands of feet away and like I said, severe sprain...
----------

You obviously have the email facility as you are on the internet?? Which means that you should contact your Doctor or local Hospital, they will be able to help you and give advice.
I would most certainly swallow an ASPIRIN at least, in the meantime.
Hope you resolve this safely and healthily.  (+ info)

Does intracranial pressure die down after awhile, or do they have to operate?

Does intracranial pressure die down after awhile, or do they have to operate?
It does not appear to be getting any worse or better after three weeks. Aged 55. Result of a head injury. England 2007 NHS.
----------

generally they can give some medications but they may need to put in burr holes
it depends on what the pressure is resulting from-
if it is blood within there then they can evacuate it sometimes but other times they cant- sometimes it just has to resolve on its own (much like a bruise)  (+ info)

What are the symptoms of mild to moderately increased intracranial pressure?

My 9 year old daughter has a ventriculo-peritoneal shunt in place and I suspect a transient malfunction, based on her symptoms.
----------
