What is fatty infiltration of the pancreas?

CT showed a small fatty focus on pancreas. Radiologist said looks like fatty infiltration of the pancreas. I am a over weight 25 year old male what is this? should i be worried ? Can it turn into cancer?
----------

Fatty Infiltration of the Pancreas:
This is a 24 year old woman without a history of chronic pancreatitis or predisposing factors for it. Examination of the head region of the pancreas shows "increased ethnicity" often prematurely equated with chronic pancreatitis. In the body and tail region it becomes clear that there are septae of bright tissue (fat) going through the pancreas giving it a marbled or lobulated appearance. The absence of calcifications or main pancreatic duct abnormalities further argues against chronic pancreatitis.

What is needle infiltration in hemodialysis? What is it called when a fistula is "blown."Is this infiltration?

This question is for probsbly dialysis nurses or techs.
At the begining of treatment when there was no problem with needle placement, is it still called "infiltration" when the fistula is "blown" and hematoma occurs?
----------

When a needle is correctly placed the needle makes one hole - into the fistula. An infiltration is when it makes more than one hole - the needle goes into the fistula and then out another side.

A blown fistula is not the same thing as an infiltration. A fistula can blow when the needle first enters the fistula. The vessel wall is too fragile for the needle and the fistula pops or blows like a balloon. It essentially makes a small tear, which is larger than the needle. A needle can also blow once dialysis is initiated. This will most often happen from the venous needle because the exiting blood creates positive pressure in the fistula. This increase in pressure can be too great for the vessel to withstand, causing the vessel to rupture. Again, this is usually a small hole, but the leaking blood can cause quite a large hematoma.  (+ info)

I have just been diagnosed by grade II fatty infiltration of liver. How serious is the matter?

and what kind of treatment is required? I am also suffering from nonobstructive left renal calculus (3 mm in upper pole). I am non alcoholic. Please advise as soon as possible as my family and myself are quite worried.
----------

You are aware that it is very advisable and okay to ask your doctor these things, right? Once he diagnosed you him or his nurse should have explained all of this to you and it is okay for you to call them and ask about it. I understand how hard it can be to think of these questions on the spot though. Best of luck to you, but get your answers from health care professionals. That is why they get paid.  (+ info)

Should I be worried about vein infiltration from donating plasma? How can I help the severe pain & swelling?

I have a knot the size of a tennis ball just above the crook in my elbow & my whole arm feels like it's been put through a meat grinder. I can't use that arm at all. Has anyone had this happen? How long does it take to heal?
----------

Sounds serious. Is your hand cold or swollen, discolored? If so, I'd have to say go to the ER. That would mean a serious circulation problem at your site and below. Those can't wait.  (+ info)

What is a Focal Fatty Infiltration of the Liver?

And is it serious?
I have seen the online articles and that doesn't mean much to me. In English, anyone have any idea WHAT it is and if it's serious?
----------

Very difficult in layman terms to answer accuratly to this question.
But YES, it is serious.

The results of the current study demonstrated that the presence of fat in the liver of islet transplant recipients is a common finding on hepatic imaging and can be confirmed histologically. The fat infiltration on imaging, which was not present before transplantation, had either a focal or diffuse, though not homogeneous, pattern of hepatic involvement. Diffuse fatty infiltration of the liver with heterogeneous granular appearance on ultrasound is not a common finding in the general population.

It suggests the presence of Hepatic Steatosis (Fatty liver)

Fatty liver (or steatorrhoeic hepatosis or steatosis hepatis) is a reversible condition where large vacuoles of lipid accumulate in hepatocytes (the cells of the liver). It may be caused by various diseases, such as in chronic alcoholism and obesity.
Accumulation of fat in liver cells may cause the liver to enlarge.

Causes
Many chemicals, such as alcohol and drugs can cause fatty liver.

Fatty liver can occur in diabetes mellitus and in pregnancy (acute fatty liver of pregnancy). It can also be seen both in starvation (especially rapid weight loss) and in obesity. In addition, it is also a minor symptom of hepatitis that may indicate progression to cirrhosis.

Severe fatty liver is accompanied by inflammation, a situation that is referred to as steatohepatitis. The degree of inflammation is related to its progression to more severe forms of liver disease, ultimately cirrhosis. If this occurs in a non-alcoholic patient without viral liver disease, the condition is termed non-alcoholic steatohepatitis.  (+ info)
