How long before the tooth turns into an abscess?

It is on my front tooth between the front teeth. I saw my dentist last July, and he didn't say anything about a cavity being there.

The tooth is sort of stinging a bit. Not throbbing, and you can't really see it unless you look really close. It's more on an annoying sensation.

My dental insurance doesn't kick in again until December 1st.

What are the chances it will abscess by then?
It could be in abscess right now, only your dentist can tell. This could be dangerous, an abscess in a tooth can bring the infection directly to the heart and really give you a problem. I have had what I what I believe to be an ongoing abscess for about 4 years now. It's a large bump on my gum and occasionally it swells and gives me a lot of pain, even a high temperature. Like now, it has popped several times when rinsing with baking soda and peroxide. Then moments later it swells again.

Be aware that dental abscesses can and do spread fast - to the brain - we recently had a 14 year old in my home town who died because his mother did not want to pay for a dentist.

I noticed a lump on my gum next to a tooth that is heavily filled so i went to see the dentist, he said it was on the verge of turning into an abscess and gave me antibiotics for 5 days, i have 2 more tablets to take and i notice no difference to the lump but i am due to go abroad tomorrow and am scared it will turn into an abscess on holiday! Anyone know how long it takes for an abscess to develope?
It takes about 24 hours to 72 hours to form and the antibiotics are not really to reduce the size of the abcess, it targets the bacteria in there to reduce there potency, the size can only be reduced by draining it, tell him you going abroad as flying with an abcessed tooth is no no  (+ info)

Which antibiotic is generally prescribed for a person suffering from an anal abscess?

My father has an anal abscess, it was drained but he has not received antibiotics so far and it's been two weeks. He has now been advised by two different, more experienced gastroinestinologists than the one he went to that he does need antibiotics. Question is, which brand of antiobiotics is the appropriate one for something like an anal abscess?
Whatever one the doctor thinks is most appropriate. I'm not an expert, but I do know that there are drug interaction and side-effect issues that his doctor will need to take into account and it's really more then we can get into here on this website.  (+ info)

Normal lungs are pink and inflate/collapse normally. It might feel like a soft sponge. In an early smoker without COPD, the lungs will develop a grayish-black discoloration due to tar and soot deposits. With continued smoking, the lung will begin to scar (fibrose), and the lung architecture will become distorted. The lung may take on a rice-krispies-like texture. In severe emphysema, long-term fibrosis may lead to large air pocket formation (bullae), which can expand over time.  (+ info)

I never smoke before but recently I have.
I smoked weed everyday for 6 months, totaling about an ounce of weed in 6 months. So does my lung look black like a heavy smoker's lung, will I get lung cancer? If I quit now would my lung goes back to the normal color if it already is black like a smoker's lung?
Your lungs are not black, get that out of your head. Something like that takes years and years of smoking. Your lungs are most likely fine. You will regain something like 10% of your lung capacity back every month when you quit because the "tissue" in your lungs will regenerate.  (+ info)

My friend has had the same abscess under his arms for several days and was told to seek medical attention if it didn’t appear noticeably better. The thing just started leaking pus. What do we do now?
I had one, so did my son and daugher, staph infection, we all went to the doctor, to be put on antibiotics to help the infection. You may want to........but once it has started pussing, it should get better, if it doesn't, i would go... it may be a pimple gone bad...as the doc told me about mine...was right on the butt it hurt !!!!!!!!!  (+ info)

I have a pilonidal abscess and I wanted to know if anyone has any tips for the pain and discomfort?

I've had the pilonidal abscess for 2 weeks, although I only found out yesterday that I need to have the surgery to get it removed. I just wanted to know if anyone has found the antibiotics helpful or if anything else has helped them relieve the discomfort? My doctor told me that the antibiotics will help 5% but I consider that to be better than none.
Mine was lanced followed by a round of antibiotics and that did the trick for me, although I know relapse is common. For pain, try a hot moist washcloth to reduce swelling and encourage draining. Avoid sitting for extended periods of time. Good old tylenol or advil may work too. I know they suck big time so hand in there!  (+ info)

Can a local tumor in the lung spread to develop bone metases without affecting the rest of the lungs?

My father has been diagnosed with non-small carcinoma in the right lung. The doctors also found a lesion in the back bone L4 which is reported as neoplastic. A biopsy on the lung tumor was performed and confirme malignancy. On that basis they are presuming that the bone lesion is also a malignant cancer tumor. However, what seems to be strange is that the CT scan results for the rest of the right lung, the left lung, abdomin, intestines, bladder, prostate, pancreas are totally clear. His oncology blood markers are also clear. The bone scan apart from the suspected lesion at L4 is totally clean, and his blood test results are acceptable. His general health conditions are good. He was on a diet, stopped it and gained 3KGS within a span of 10 days. He simply does not show any of the symptoms of a stage IV cancer patient. The doctors said they cannot operate because of the bone lesion. Had it been only in the lungs they would. We are concerned that they might be making the wrong connection
