How many people here have Lupus?

I have Lupus(SLE-Systemic Lupus Erythematosus), just curious as to how many here have it or knows someone who has it. And is yours under control, or do you have alot of flares like I do?
----------

I have SLE and kidney disease from the Lupus. I am in remission (again) but have been through 4 major flare ups since I was diagnosed in 1992. My last one was in 2001 and I have since become a vegetarian and only eat foods and use products that are organic/natural. Lupus is one of the many diseases that are sensitve too or caused by chemicals and I do feel better since I made that life change. Lupus is more common than many of the "known" diseases put together. If you don't already know this, stay out of the sun, avoid stress, listen to your body when you need to rest and again stay away from all chemicals. Stay strong and don't become your disease.  (+ info)

Alternative therapies for SLE (systemic lupus erythematosus)?

Currently taking 2250mg of ascorbic acid (powder), 10 MSM capsules, 3-1000mg fish oil capsules, 1-200mcg selenium tablet, and one daily multi-vitamin daily. I try to eat at least two meals a day, but sometimes I can't even keep it all down. My stools and occasional vomit usually consist of excess bile. Alternative therapy doctor has seen me for the last 3 months, knows of all my current problems, realizes I'm in the middle of a flare. Unfortunately, I've been flaring for more than a month now, and frankly, I'm getting tired of it. He says to give it time, it will pass, continue taking supplements, rest, etc. He says he'll prescribe me steroids, but I have serious problems with taking them.

Is there anything that has worked for you, personally, to bring yourself out of a flare quicker?

The best advice would be to track down a qualified Classical Homeopath. I cannot express how important it is to be very cautious of taking Homeopathic advice online. Feel free to email me personally and tell me where you are, and I will see if I know of any good practitioners in your area.  (+ info)

I have to compare turners syndrome to lupus and i need help!?

Here is the question i have to answer:
Compare your disease with systemic lupus erythematosus and evaluate which disease is worse and why (think about body systems affected, treatment, and prognosis)

my dad was diagnosed with lupus on his nose. should i be worried? ?

Is lupus on the nose common? I have read stuff about Discoid lupus erythematosus, which is skin lupus, but on the nose? is it life threatning? what type of test should he ask for?

Thanks
----------

I would be concerned but not overly terrified. You should learn as much as you can and talk to the doctor with any concerns for the family. You can check out this website from the mayoclinic it has not only information about the disease but also things to do at home to help out. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/lupus/DS00115 This will help to be supportive. Lupus is so unpredictable I do not want to tell you that it is not life threatening and then in a month or two he passes. It really depends on how soon it was noticed, and what treatments are done to help it. Stay strong & supportive. I wish your family the best.   (+ info)

Does anyone know how many types of LUPUS there are? I know there are more than one, just not sure how many.?

I know of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Or oterwise known as S.L.E. But I have talked to other people who say they have Lupus but they have never heard of it.

There are four types of lupus, I believe. They are discoid lupus, systemic lupus, drug-induced lupus and neonatal lupus. This link should help.  (+ info)

What are the odds of a child getting Lupus if a parent has it?

My mother has Lupus, and I am worried about it. Can anyone tell me the odds or likelihood of a child of a Lupus patient having the disease? I've been to several sites but didn't find an answer to this ?
----------

There is no known gene or genes which are thought to cause the illness. There are recent discoveries of a gene on chromosome 1 which is associated with lupus in certain families. Previously, genes on chromosome 6 called "immune response genes" were also associated with the disease. Only 10 percent of lupus patients will have a close relative (parent or sibling) who already has or may develop lupus. Statistics show that only about five percent of the children born to individuals with lupus will develop the illness.
This site will give you good info-

You may ask questions there too.
Good luck!  (+ info)
