How do you tell the difference between cystic and normal acne?

I read cystic acne was 'large pus filled pimples' and i have a few of those, but they go away relatively quickly, which i read cystic acne doesn't. So how do i tell what i have?
----------

i used to have cystic pimples until i changed my diet,so this probably might help you-------- a lot of food ingredients(not fresh meat, veg, fish, cheese, potato's,etc) are man made from chemicals, now if i gave you a teaspoon of chemical to drink, you probably wouldn't be surprised with the new cystic pimple growing the next day, how do i know? i lived this nightmare of cystic pimples,as one was dying, ping i could feel the next one coming, running home from school or getting up in the morning to look in the mirror(juli, stop looking in the mirror they won't go any quicker),making excuses not to go out and staying in to apply mud from mexico, slime from the bottom of the sea, face masks made from kangaroo poo,it looks a little bit better(who are you kidding)why do i only see one person in every million like me,because they aren't allergic to anything,oh no i got another one, this will be my last one,it's the end of my teenage years, this will be my last one i'm thirty and a half next week. i had 10 years of them, left mums house, bingo month later clear fresh complexion,if i went back to mums big spot again, mum said you're allergic to something,6 months later we found that it was a food (chemical)ingredient added as a food flavouring, sauces, gravy, flavours put on breadcrumbs, drinks, curries, lots of things. no more bending over when a fit boy passes so my hair falls over my face.it should be easy to find out what your eating that your allergic to

I have symptons of Cystic Fibrosis. Is it possible to start show the symptons in my 30's?

I am having a hard time breathing and seem to have attacks that come on all of a sudden. Also I t feels like something stuck in my lungs..I cannot remeber any signs when I was growing up. Is it possible to start showing signs of cystic fibrosis in my 30's?
----------

Yes, it is possible. Some of the previous answers are unbelieveable.
No, you don't have to be diagnosed prior to 2 years old and NO you don't have to spend your teenager years in the hospital. Some of you are reading out of a 1950's medical journal.
There are many different mutations with different manifestations.
There are MANY different forms of CF and there are documented cases of people being diagnosed in their 30's, 40's, 50's , 60's etc...
Good Look and I hope you find what is ailing you.  (+ info)

What is a good treatment for cystic pimples?

I would like to know, what is good to use on cystic pimples?
----------

Best way if to clear your body of toxins (the main cause of hormonal imbalance, thus acne). Once the inside it cleared, your acne will go away too. Well that's my experience, I've had acne for years before learning more about what caused it. I have used this detox method to get rid of toxins http://morereviewz.googlepages.com/acnefree.htm I've been acne free since then.

What is the average life expectancy for people with Cystic Fibrosis?

I'm pregnant with my first baby and I got some tests done and the doctors informed me that my daughter will have Cystic Fibrosis. My mother had a brother and sister who died from the disease when they were quite young. Anyway, I'm wondering what is the current life expectancy for children/people with Cystic Fibrosis and how can you best take care of them to maximize their life?

Is it possible to treat mild cystic acne without Accutane?

I have just a few very small cystic spots on my nose. They don't hurt, and they don't stand out in a particularly noticeable way. However, they've been there for a while, and I'd really like to treat it without using Accutane.

I'd appreciate any ideas, homemade remedies, and the like. Thanks!
I don't think Accutane is necessary because I've known people put on the drug and they have had much more serious spots, while I just have a few small ones on the nose.
----------

I worked for a dermatologist for six years, and am now a medical professional as well. Let me tell ya...Accutane is serious and for people with serious acne. However, it is overly used because people in general are so concerned with just one pimple. I won't go into depth about how severe Accutane is, because you obviously want to use something different, but is a very strong drug.

Truly cystic acne is typically painful. Are you sure it's cystic? Cystic ane is deep and usually a hard knot under the surface of the skin. Very rarely is there ever a pustule that appears on it (usually do not appear until it's almost gone anyway). If it is truly cystic, do not squeeze it. These forms of acne have "roots" and will only grow larger upon mashing or squeezing them.
Do not use any form of scrub on your face, if you have active pimples or acne. You may use a scrub if you have blackheads. Otherwise, scrubs break the skin and spread bacteria over the rest of your face, which in turn causes acne to spread.
Probably the most effective active ingredient in acne products, benzoyl peroxide kills P. acnes, helps remove excess oils from the skin and removes dead skin cells that clog pores. It is available in strengths from 2.5 percent to 10 percent, but it can cause excessive dryness, scaling, redness and minor swelling. It can also make your skin more sensitive to ultraviolet (UV) exposure.
Salicylic acid is an ingredient that slows shedding of cells inside the hair follicles, which prevents the pores from clogging. It may also break down whiteheads (clogged pores that have no opening) and blackheads (pores that are open and have a dark surface). Salicylic acid can cause mild stinging and skin irritation. OTC acne products are available with 0.5 percent to 2 percent salicylic acid.
There are other products with other ingredients as well, but these two are the most common in OTC medications and the most effective.
Here are some other ways to avoid acne breakouts:

-Avoid oily cosmetics, sunscreens and hair products. Instead use products labeled "oil-free" or "noncomedogenic," which means they won't clog pores.
-Wash problem areas twice daily with a nonmedicated soap or mild cleanser. But don't overdo it. Excessive washing and scrubbing can worsen acne.
-Apply just enough acne product to cover the problem areas.
-Use an oil-free, water-based moisturizer to help alleviate dry, peeling skin.
-Don't pick or squeeze blemishes. Infection or scarring may result.

**Treating acne with acne products takes time and patience. It may take four to six weeks of daily use of acne products to see results, and acne may look worse before it gets better. If your acne doesn't improve after two months of treatment, you may want to see your doctor or dermatologist for a prescription lotion or medication (which does not have to be Accutane).
There are tons of prescription medications out there that are extremely helpful and not nearly as severe as Accutane. If it is truly cystic acne, this is considered a type of Grade IV acne and is usually only completely treated by a dermatologist. You may want to try your own approach at home, using OTC meds, first, but if you keep getting the nodules, please see a doctor.  (+ info)

How do you get rid of a sore or cystic pimple in your ear?

I rarely get pimples in my ears, but they come once in awhile I guess. But I have a very sore or cystic pimple inside my left ear, almost near the entrance to my earlobe. Are there any ways of how to treat and get rid of it quickly?

Please tell me.
----------

Step 1

One of the most popular home remedies is to put toothpaste on your pimple before you go to bed .Make sure it is the paste and not the gel.

Step 2

Place strawberry leaves on the acne ,the alkalinity helps reduce the swelling.

Step 3

These are one of the smellier home remedies for getting rid of a pimple overnight.Crush a couple of garlic cloves and dabbed on the face 1-2 times daily.

Step 4

Grind orange peel with some water to a paste and apply on the pimple.Your pimple should disappear overnight or become less visible.

Step 5

Mix 1 teaspoon of finely ground cinnamon powder and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice and apply to your pimples frequently this should also do the trick.

Step 6

Put ice on the pimple before going to bed ,by morning it should be noticeably smaller. This works best on larger pimples that have not yet formed a head.

Step 7

Mix mint juice with turmeric powder and apply on affected area.Leave for about 15 minutes and wash off with lukewarm water.

Step 8

Combine together in a bowl some vinegar and salt in a bowl, dab this mixture on your pimples ,leave for about 15-20 minutes and the rinse off.

Step 9

Grind some nutmeg with milk and apply to affected area, this will make your pimples vanish without leaving any marks.Poof and it is gone.

Step 10

Apply juice of raw papaya including the skin and seed on swelling acne to get rid of overnight.

Step 11

Apply the pulp from ripe tomatoes on your blemish and leave for a hour, then wash and get rid of your pimple overnight.

Step 12

Apply grated potatoes on the skin to treat pimples and reduce swelling.

Step 13

Follow any one of the instructions above ,I am sure one will work for you and good luck. You going to need it because some pimples are very stubborn.

What sports/physical activities are good for someone with Cystic Fibrosis?

I want to get my daughter involved in some good sports/physical activities. She's only 3 years old. She has Cystic Fibrosis. We live in New York and walk a lot, she gets out of breath often when we go for walks and walk up hills. But the doctors say its good for her to have to work her lungs. What are the best sports and other physical activities I should get her involved in?
----------

Regular exercise improves the health of people who have cystic fibrosis. Exercise helps loosen mucus, encourages coughing, improves oxygen flow, and makes you feel better. Upper body exercises, such as swimming or rowing, increase the strength and endurance of the muscles that are used for breathing.

After talking to your doctor about how much exercise is good for your child, encourage your child to participate in sports and recreational activities. Team sports are great ways for your child to stay fit and to interact with other children. Talk to the coach or supervisor about your child's abilities and the important role of physical activity in the treatment of cystic fibrosis.

Some people who have cystic fibrosis may not be strong enough to participate in certain activities. Your doctor can recommend the right amount and type of exercise for you. Or, you may work with a physical therapist to develop your own exercise routine.  (+ info)

What is the best way to get rid of cystic body acne?

My bf has horrible cystic body acne. What is the best way to cure that besides the obvious try to keep those areas suseptable to it extra clean of oils and all. That helps but isn't the cure.
----------

For cystic body acne, the only truly effective option is Accutane. A topical treatment can't be used over th entire body, and cystic acne is resistant to most other forms of acne treatment. (Over-the-counter remedies are a waste of time, unfortunately.) To get Accutane, he will need to see a dermatologist. Even if he doesn't have insurance, this will ultimately be more affordable, in the long term, than the constant pursuit of lesser-expensive treatments that just don't work.

Antibiotics aren't effective for severe cystic acne; they are really only effective for mild-to-moderate acne. I'm including a link to a resource on WebMD below that helps patients with "Should I take isotretinion (Accutane) for my acne?". You both should review this. The short-term side effects of Accutane are manageable, and much-preferred by most severe acne sufferers, to the option of living with cystic acne.

Good luck -- get treatment as soon as possible to avoid and minimize scarring.  (+ info)

What causes differences in the severity of Cystic Fibrosis?

I have identical twin girls (they're 16) who have Cystic Fibrosis, they have always been in the same environment, but they seem to have two different severity levels of Cystic Fibrosis, one of my twins is sick very often and has had to spend numerous amounts of time in hospital, has much lower lung function, needs a feeding tube, and will need a lung transplant eventually, my other daughter does not get sick and get infections that much and has always been a lot stronger. What actually causes the differences since they are identical twins?
----------

Different mutations of the disease may play a part in this. However, this cannot be ruled at the answer either. For example, I have CF as well, my mutation is the G551D, and right now I am currently in a study with 2 other people at my CF center (about 80-120 in the US hopefully at the end) and even at my center 5 people have this mutation. I am about 50% lung function (this is very good for me) but have spent a lot of time in the 40%. To be in this study your lung function had to be over 40% and stable. One girl is not able to participate because she is under that mark, and one boy is in the 90's so he cannot participate because he is doing too well! I think that Cystic Fibrosis is still really misunderstood, and not everything is known yet about it. Everyday there are new treatments that are developing to make life better. Right now I am a lot healthier than my older sister who does not have CF! I have not been ill in nearly a year, which is amazing to me because for about 3 years I consistently had IV therapy every 3 to 4 months for about 2 months at a time.  (+ info)
