How do you treat cystic acne?

I have cystic acne and i have yet to find an over the counter product that will help me. I do not want to go to a dermatologist because it is too expensive. What products work well, does anyone have any home remedies?
----------

Well, cystic acne results from sensitive skin. The best thing u could do is by using an intensive skincare treatment to improve ur skin sensitivity so that no new breakouts will occur.Just cleanse, tone and moisturize twice a day to regulate ur sebaceous glands and prevent new breakouts.Use a purifying mask once a week to detoxify ur face.Facial treatment could enhance ur healing process too.And when ur acne becomes scars, include a scar serum to improve ur skin complexion.Good luck...  (+ info)

What is the life expectancy after a double lung transplant if you have Cystic Fibrosis?

My little sister is a teenager and has Cystic Fibrosis. Her doctor said she will need to have a double lung transplant eventually...her lung function is not good, and she gets frequent infections. She also has a lot of problems with digesting and has to have a feeding tube to provide extra nutrients. I was wondering, does anyone who's knowledgeable know what the life expectancy is after a double lung transplant considering she has Cystic Fibrosis? And the probability of just surviving the lung transplant surgery?
----------

I don't know but I would guess it would double her age, she would have new lungs but they would wear down like her original lungs.  (+ info)

Sometimes you have to go to a Dermatologist for help with acne that is bad like this. There may be some over-the-counter products you can use, but a Dermatologist can put you on acne-reducing oral antibiotics or a topical antibiotic that helps keep you from breaking out. Many people think that Dermatologists are very expensive...they can be, but it depends on what they are treating your for and where they are located. Many Dermatologists are very reasonable priced because they have to work with insurance carriers, insurance picks up the majority of the cost because it is a medical expense, and then you pay a percentage of the cost (normally no more than $20.00 per visit).

A really good Dermatologist will give you the names of the best products to use on your type of skin so that takes a lot of the guesswork out of it. But without oral or topical antibiotics, I doubt that anything over-the-counter is going to work for you because this is the type of acne that makes big bumps, tends
to leave scars and pock marks on your face. They you have to go to a Dermatologist or Cosmetic Surgeon later on for laser procedures to help smooth out your skin and it will cost more. Generally, unless it is a medically necessary procedure
most insurance companies will not pay for a Cosmetic Surgeon's fees because they are considered cosmetic and not medical procedures.

I had really bad acne as a teen and I would not have made it
without a Dermatologist. My skin would have been ruined. These doctors are, without a single doubt, the best way you can handle this type of problem. You can ask another doctor for a referral like my mom did to make sure you get a really highly recommended doctor that is good at their job.

And don't believe all of the advice that people will give you about trying ProActive. It is a generic product that is not endorsed by Dermatologists. Jessica Simpson did not use their products...she was paid an endorsement to advertise for
ProActive. I guarantee you she keeps her face like it is by going to see a very high dollar Dermatologist in California.

I know this stuff because I have been in your shoes before and believe me, I know what I am talking about when I say that the doctor will tell you what you can and can't eat, how many times to wash your face and what to use on it, plus prescribe the medication that helps cut down on the acne production and oil in your face. If you absolutely cannot afford a Dermatologist, go see your Family Physician. They can give you some samples of things to try on your face to see what works best for you. They can help you some, but not to the degree that a Dermatologist can do for you.

I hope this is of some help to you! And good luck to you! :-)  (+ info)

Having Cystic Fibrosis would it be unsafe to travel to a third world country ?

My friend wants to go to Libya for two weeks and invited me to come with her (she has relatives in some village there). I'd like to go to see it such a different place, but I have Cystic Fibrosis and I'm kind of worried about getting sick there, getting an infection there and what I would do if I did. I get sick and get infections a lot as it is. Has anyone had any experience with this or have any advice?

Hello!

If you ask me, I think you should be fine. I'm not sure what you are using for airway clearance (probably the Therapy Vest?), but have you heard of something called the PEP, or the Flutter? If not, I would ask your Respiratory Therapist for one of those. Basically, what you do is its a hand held device that you blow into that creates pressure deep down into your lungs and helps you cough the sputum out. If you have good insurance, the PEP is around $60 (atleast is was for me). These two work wonders for when we go away on trips, because they are not nearly has big or heavy as the Vest. If you have any questions, or need someone to talk to, feel free to ask. Hope I helped!  (+ info)

How do chloride ions affect water transport and mucus buildup in cystic fibrosis?

In the disease cystic fibrosis there is a defect in the ability of endothelial cells to transport Cl- ions. What rationale would this have on water balance and possible regulation of mucus build up in the lungs? Since this defect is in a gene for all cells would other tissues besides the lungs be influence, if so, which ones and why? Besides gene therapy, what pharmacological treatments are beneficial and why for treating the Cl- ion imbalance?

Osmosis baby.

For the rest, read your damn notes or textbook. This is not a cheating service.  (+ info)
