Is the production of mucus part of the lymphatic system or the respiratory?

I am typing a paper that has a main focus on the body's natural reaction to bacteria or a virius. What I can't remember is rather or not the production of mucus as a way to rid the body of bacteria would be apart of the lymphatic system, since the lymphatic system does infact deal with mainly all other matter of desposing of bacterium.

It is really a reaction of epithelium, such as nose, mouth, conjunctivae in the eyes, vagina, etc.  (+ info)

What can happen to your lymphatic system system from laser tattoo removal? ?

I am wondering if it can cause cancer or anything else? Is it bad to get more than one tattoo removed at a time and how long will your body take to flush it out of your lymphatic system, and will one feel sick or weak in between tattoo removal sessions as their body is working super hard to heal? Also how long should people really wait in-between removal sessions? weeks or months?

See if this link might help to answer your question.

There are also other concerns linked to the liver and other organs in your body. My suggestion would be to not remove the tattoos.  (+ info)

Where can I find someone to perform lymphatic massage in my area?

I was diagnosed with mono last week and my left lymph node in my neck is very swollen and uncomfortable. I was told that a lymphatic massage would keep the fluids moving to prevent swelling and infection. Can a regular massage therapist do this? If not, how would I find someone who can in my area? Do they operate under a special title?
----------

That's great that you've been recommended for manual lymph drainage. That was something that I was trained in while I was going through my certification program. While massage therapists can do this if they have had the proper training, in this circumstance I'm certain that MLD is not the solution to your problem. Here is why: When a person is ill with a viral or bacterial infection and/or fever, circulation of lymph through the nodes slows, giving the lymphocytes more time to destroy the bacteria or virus. Because massage moves fluid through the lymphatic system more quickly, it can interfere with the body's efforts to defeat the attacking cells and can prolong the illness. During fever, white blood cells multiply more rapidly and bacteria and viruses multiply more slowly; fever therefore is part of the body's healing process. Because lymph drainage massage lowers the body temperature, a client should not receive a massage if they are feverish.  (+ info)

How does the lymphatic system absorb fluid for drainage?

Hey guys,

How does the lymphatic system absorb fluid for drainage?

I've been trying to answer this question for weeks, but i'm having trouble with it, any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Cheers,

There are three types of vessels in human body: arteries, veins, and lymphatic vessels.

Heart pushes out blood into aorta and arteries, which divide in smaller arteries, which on the end are called capillaries. From the capillaries, blood is up-taken by small veins, which bring the blood back into the heart.

Capillaries have permeable walls, which allow that some blood plasma leaks out from them into surrounding tissues. And from there, this plasma is up-taken by small lymphatic vessels, which join in right lymphatic duct and thoracic duct, which on the end are drained into left and right subclavian vein and hence into the heart.

In the course of lymphatic vessels, there are lymphatic nodes, so the lymph flows through them and it is filtered this way - eventual viruses, bacteria and foreign substances may be destroyed there.  (+ info)
