what cure is there for hodgkin lymphoma?

im looking for all the possible ways of curing this regardless of what it takes. anything with even the smallest chance would be of great help.
If anyone can guide me to a place or clinic to seek help that would also be appreciated.
----------

Hodgkin's lymphoma is one of the success stories in modern cancer medicine. It does require radiation or chemotherapy or both to cure (no room for homeopathy cures here). Everyone is not cured however.
Treatment for Hodgkin's disease is fairly standardized, meaning most oncologists in this country treat very similarly. You can look at this site http://patients.uptodate.com/topic.asp?file=blod_dis/2873 for an overview of therapy.

In any case, please disregard any suggestion that homeopathy or any unproven alternative medicine will "cure" you of Hodgkin's--not going to happen and you may throw away a real chance to be cured. Also, take heart, there IS such a thing as a CURE.!

Best wishes and God bless.  (+ info)

What does treatment for Hodgkin's lymphoma involve?

I might have hodgkin's lymphoma (no diagnosis yet...still testing) and was wondering what specifically does treatment involve? Is it something you have to stay in the hospital for for months? I'd like to hear someones personal expirience. I've read about what radiation/chemo/etc...is about but I want details like where did you go for treatment (hospital/drs. office?) and how long it took (was it all day? all week? for a couple hours?) Please help.
----------

I didn't have hodgkins lymphoma, I had non- hodgkins, but at the beginning there was talk about having to stay in the hospital for my first chemo. I felt so bad I wish I could have, only because I had 4 kids waiting for me at home.

It depends on your treatment whether or not you will stay in the hospital. It aslo depends on how your body reacts to the chemo. My aunt had hodgkins lymphoma and was in and out of hospitals during treatments.

My chemo was all day. But my first treatment was the longest. I was the last one to leave... next to the nurses. I had 5 drugs pumped into my body. One drug took about 5 hours to pump in because they were watching how I reacted to it. Eventually, they were able to pump it in in about 3.

Good Luck and stay positive...you will make it through this.  (+ info)

It wasn't THAT bad. It surely wasn't fun, but hey, at least I'm still here. Hair loss was in about 10 days - 2 weeks. Nausea was a side effect but not that bad. I had numbness in all my fingertips, which was due to the Vincristine. I was treated with six rounds of CHOP plus Rituxan. Then I had 18 radiation treatments. [WICKED radiation sore throat] I had diffuse lage B cell NHL stage IIe. I'm still here to tell about it 3 years later.

My Friend is diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, will she die?

My best friend was very recently told she has non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and that there is nothing that can be done. She is in her early 30's with 2 young girls. The doctor told her to do "alot of video-taping". Essentially, she feels fine, but doesnt know how long she has. Is there NO treatment for this? We live in Southern California with some of the best medical universities and hospitals. Is there nothing that can be done? Im angry! What should I do?
----------

my sympathies to you and your friend. If her doctor thinks they need to treat with chemo or chemo - they should.

my mother had non-hodkins for 8 years. most of the time she wasn't too bad. You can survive for i think about 12 years with it - at least that was the info I got when my mother got it about 16 years ago. of course I'm sure that treatments are better now too.

usually they die due to complications such as respiratory failure or some sort of infection. they get susceptible to colds and illnesses since their immune system is so low.

look it up on the mayo clinic site.

i know you are angry and upset, but really just deal with it and support her and help her as much as youi can.

good luck  (+ info)

How hopeful can a patient be with stage IV non hodgkin lymphoma onchemotherapy ?

The patient himself a reknowned hematologist has disseminated disease with diabetes, hypertension and had undergone CABG and has renal insufficiency and is 60 years old
----------

My husband was an otherwise healthy 23-year old when he was diagnosed with stage IV Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma with bone marrow involvement. He went through many rounds of chemotherapy (I lost count after the 8th round and the second combination of drugs) and eventually an autologous stem cell transplant. He's been NHLymphoma-free ever since the transplant in June of 2001.

Every person handles cancer and the treatment of differently. Existing conditions may or may not play a part in how well the body receives the treatment, whether it includes surgery, chemotherapy or surgery -- or a combination thereof.

As the patient himself is a renowned hematologist, he should have a better idea on how the human body responds to cancer and its treatment better than anyone here. I hope the treatment is successful.  (+ info)

How can we prevent recurrence hodgkin lymphoma?

I'm a Hodgkin's patient, currenly in the middle of my second relapse. I'm currently doing chemo, being prepped for a second stem cell transplant (this time with a donor)

I'm not sure that recurrence can be prevented really. It depends on the patient and the aggressiveness of their cancer.  (+ info)

What are the chances of someone surviving stage 3 non hodgkin's lymphoma?

My grandpa was just diagnosed with stage three.
The cancer spread to his chest, lungs and spline.
I'm praying for the best.
But can you tell me what happens at stage three, and the chances of him getting over it?
----------

Lymphoma is very beatable cancer.. which has greater then 50/50 survival rates at distant stages. Mainly because the cancer repsond very well to the chemo treatments that is needs. Now when it comes to giving a prognosis, there are many factors involved, and only his docs would know the actual answer to that.

Age and other healt factors are very important. Because some older people simply cant handle the chemo treatments.

To be honest, it sounds more like stage 4 since it has spead to the spine. Either way, if he gets proper treatments, he has a better then average chance of beating it.  (+ info)

Is adjuvant therapy(chemo) is proven effective for non-hodgkin's lymphoma cases?

All my lab tests--ct scan, blood tests are all clear after my surgery (colon). Do chemo after surgery necessary and proven effective to lower the risk of recurrence for Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma cases. Considering im young and aware of chemo side effects--second malignancy disease and sterility. Do i need a chemo now?
----------

Only your oncologist can answer that, specific to your case. It depends on the type of NHL. Sometimes people are put on maintenance doses of Rituxan [very little side effects].
