Yes and yes. E. coli is normal bacterium that inhabits our intestinal tract. It helps us digest food and provides us with nutrients our bodies cannot produce alone. Therefore, you will get E. coli from that person-their normal flora. The pathogenic E. coli O157 is the one you are questioning. If the person has it, yes in theory you can contract it. Honestly, if that person had a pathogenic E.coli infection, the last thing they would want was to have their *** ate (as you put it), They would be very sick and most likely in the bathroom. Therefore, I'd assume you're safe.

I assume you mean the five groups of E. coli associated with gastroenteritis. The are certainly way more than five strains of E. coli. The five groups of E. coli that cause gastroenteritis are:

enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC) - causes travelar diarrhea, infant diarrhea, watery diarrhea. Produces heat stable and/or heat labile enterotoxins athat stimulate hyper-secretion of fluids and electrolytes in the small intestine.

Enteroinvasive E. coli (EIEC) - causes watery diarrhea followed by development of dysentery with some bloody stools. Here the bacteria invade and destroy the colonic epithelium

Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) - causes infant diarrhea in impoverished countries. Symptoms include fever nausea, vomiting and nonbloody stools. Caused by adherence and destruction of epithelial cells in the small intestine.

Enterohemorrhagic E. coli(EHEC) - causes hemorrhagic colitis with severe abdominal cramps, initial watery diarrhea followed by severe bloody diarrhea. Caused by production of shiga-like toxins which disrupt protein synthesis.

Enteroaggregative E. coli (EAggEC) - persistent watery diarhhea with vomitting, dehydration and low grade fever. Bacteria adhere to the intestinal mucosa preventing fluid absorption.

Another group of E. coli is extraintestinal pathogenic E. coli (ExPEC) These E. coli causes disease outside of the intestine (urinary tract infections, meningitis, septicemia, etc.).

These E. coli can be separated into specific groups, all of which fall under the category of ExPEC. These groups include, but are not limited to:

Urinary Pathogenic E. coli (UPEC)

Neonatal meningitic E. coli (NMEC)

Avian pathogenic E. coli (APEC).

Temperature is a growth component of microorganisms, and the growth of Escherichia coli is temperature dependent in some senses. In general, organisms grow at different rates depending on temperature, as one aspect. While some organisms like low temperatures (psychrophiles), some organisms like normal temperature range like ur bodies (35-37 degree Celsius--mesophiles), while some thrive on extreme environements, such as thermal vents (thermophiles).

Specifically, temperature dependence of growth, and thus doubling time, signifies the fact that an an organism's metabolism is temperature dependent, in that some enzymes are activated at higher temperatures while some at lower temperatures. Generally, increasing the temperature also increases the reaction; if you apply this to an organism, such as E. coli, its rate of, for example, glucose consumption would increase, which translates to more energy that the cell can use to couple with anabolic reactions (such as cell membrane biosynthesis).

Of course, there is only a range wherein the temperature could rise enough such that the temperature increase would not be deterimental to the cell and that growth would either be inefficient or, worse, completely inhibited. So temperature has a direct correlation to an organism's growth, specifically in enhancing or inhibiting the temperature-dependent metabolic pathways, since metabolism is one of the main components of growth and doubling time.
