dunno, but maybe the alcohol makes you swell or retain fluid, fluid retention does worsen carpal tunnel, so if wrists are swollen ice them and the pain goes away.  (+ info)

What causes excess testosterone in a woman other than PCOS?

What other health issues can cause excess testosterone in a woman (other than Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, that is)?
----------

the PCOS is the very well known reason. however a high level of testosterone can be genetically coded... but in all cases it will not be too high. in some cases of genetic disease called masculinasation, in this case the woman is born like a boy while she is XX genetically. this is due to the loss of the enzyme needed to convert androgens into estrogens...  (+ info)

If your periods are regular what are the chances of having polycystic ovary syndrome?

If you have the other symptoms like excess body hair, difficulty in losing weight etc but your periods are regular (regular but very, very light) is there a chance that it's PCOS or not?
----------

There's definitely a chance, as PCOS is a very variable condition. If you are concerned about this condition, then it's much better to have your hormone levels checked and a physical exam, as it may affect future chances of conception.  (+ info)

When will it start being apparent?

Sometimes I watch these weight loss programmes saying people have a lot of excess skin after they lose a lot of weight. My question is, what percentage of original body weight you have to lose to start having quite obvious stretched skin?

Is laser hair removal a good option for someone who suffers from Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome?

I suffer form POCS, and because of that i have excess hair all over my body and i was wondering if it would be a good idea to get laser removal especially for my face and chin
----------

I think before you do anything, you need to talk to your doctor just to make sure. Because one of the side effects of this syndrome is excess body hair, the physical response to laser hair removal may not be as effective as with people without this syndrome. The hormonal response of hair growth will probably not be stopped by laser hair removal. However, this does not mean that you should not get it. As with most people, laser hair removal is not a permanent treatment. Often times it serves as a way to thin unwanted hair, to make hair management easier. If this would be enough for you, then this might be an effective way to make your life easier.  (+ info)

Did undiagnosed Down Syndrome cases carry excess amniotic fluid?

I am 34 wks pregnant and I have been advised that I am carrying excess amniotic fluid (AFI: 29). My screening results for Downs in early pregnancy came back as 1 in 91k, which shows low risk. However because there has been no cause identified for the excess fluid and excess water can be a marker for Downs, I am worried. The consultants believe there would usually be other signs in addition to this if I was carrying a downs baby and think it may just be due to it being a bigger than average baby. I am still worried though & I am trying to decide whether to have an amnio test to confirm. Because the consultants are not steering me towards the test but say I can have it if I really want to, I am also concerned that I may be putting my baby at risk of infection/premature labour unnecessarily! Any facts/examples that would help to reassure me or help me make a decision regarding the test would be very much appreciated.
----------

Don't worry. I had loads in my first preganancy- I was tested for gestational diabetes, and everything. In the end it was just decided that I had mroe than average. My daughter was born at 40 weeks perfectly healthy.

There is a far, far higher chance of a problem occurring because of an amnio test than there is of there being a problem with your baby. If the baby is measuring right for dates and has been shown to be normal and healthy at scans then try not to worry.

The only "problem" my excess fluid caused was it soaked through the bedding about 4 times when I was in labour and ruined my favourite pair of socks!  (+ info)
