FAQ - Mixed Tumor, Malignant

If you have or have had a benign tumor, does that mean your more susceptible to malignant tumors then most?

in other words, is there a better chance that youll get malignant cancer if youve had a benign tumor than someone that has remained consistantly tumor free
----------

I'd say yes because if the body developed any kind of tumor that means the DNA did not replicate properly, there were errors or the checking mechanisms failed or are faulty due to genetics. If it did it once there is greater possibility it will do it again. There is also a better chance if a close relative has had cancer. I recently read statistics saying that 50% of the population will get cancer in their lifetime.

I am recovering from colon cancer surgery right now.  (+ info)

What is the difference between a malignant brain lesion and a malignant brain tumor?

The term "tumor" refers to a swelling in the body. To many, the term is synonymous with cancer. But any type of swelling — even a large bruise (hematoma) — is technically a tumor. Tumors can be cancerous or noncancerous.

A brain tumor is a mass or growth of abnormal cells in your brain.
A lesion is an area of abnormal tissue; could be either benign (noncancerous) or malignant (cancerous).

Brain tumors typically are categorized as either primary or secondary. Primary brain tumors originate in your brain and can be noncancerous (benign) or cancerous (malignant). Secondary brain tumors result from cancer that began elsewhere and spread to your brain. Primary brain tumors are less common than secondary brain tumors.
Benign brain tumors are usually slower growing, easier to remove (depending on their location), and less likely to recur than are malignant brain tumors. Benign brain tumors don't invade the surrounding normal brain or other nearby structures, but they can still place pressure on sensitive areas of your brain.
Malignant brain tumors can grow more rapidly, invading or destroying nearby brain tissue.

What would you say when a woman finds out she has a non malignant tumor in her brain, that if it grows?

she might have to operate, because it is near the optic nerve, and she could go blind.(so, far, in 2 and a half years, it hasn't grown, and I doubt it will)
What would you say if she told a man she was casually dating from time to time and knew pretty well, and she never heard from him again.
----------

Better to find out now rather than later. Atleast she was only casually dating, not married.

My cousin's first husband left her after she was diagnosed with breast cancer the first time. That was like 15 years ago or something, I dont really remember a whole lot about it.

My family screwed me every way possible when I was diagnosed.

Unfortunatly, illness brings out the worst in some relationships. I would much rather have someone I was casually dating walk out of my life rather than a best friend, or family.  (+ info)

Can malignant tumor in the duodenum be treated by chelation therapy?

No; the 2 aren't even remotely related.
Chelation is used to remove heavy metals from the body. It's got nothing to do with cancer.  (+ info)

We are still in shock as she lost her twins one week before her due date due to an accident a few months back. Everyone in the family is looking up info. I thought I would reach out to the Yahoo Answers community to see if anyone is familiar with this cancer and its treatments - before or after the total hysterectomy. Thanks for sharing.

Why would someone with thyroid cancer develop a malignant tumor in their lymph node?

Is that common?
----------

It is very common for thyroid cancer (primary tumor being on the thyroid gland) to spread to the lymph nodes (usually in the neck/ chest area), it's almost always the first place that it spreads to. Generally speaking, if it spread cancer spread to the nodes, it means the cancer has 1. been there a while, 2. a bit more aggressive.

This situation actually happened to me. I have papillary thyroid cancer and had 11 lymph nodes were removed while I was having a total thyroidectomy. 9 of them ended up being cancer.  (+ info)
