Can Compound W Freeze Off be used on Molluscum Contagiosum?

A little embarassed about this, but recently I was diagnosed with genital molluscum contagiosum. The doctor used a similar freezing compound to freeze most of them off, but told me that it may take 2-3 applications to cure myself completely, or just wait until it goes away on it's own. At the same time though, I feel really uncomfortable having it treated by a doctor, and just wanted to know if Freeze Off could be used instead?

I would not recomend it.  (+ info)

What is the best home treatment for Molluscum Contagiosum?

You could probably use an over the counter wart med, like compound w, but this type of wart should be treated by a dermatologist. It can be frozen with liquid nitrogen. It is a reoccurring problem, you should really see a doctor.
Small children could get this anywhere on their bodies, face and torso are most common.............

I worked for a dermatologist, for 4 years! Good Luck!  (+ info)

why is it said that if a person has molluscum contagiosum they may be likely to have other stds?

firstly molluscum contagiosum isnt even truly and std, so im confused there but even if you got it from sexual contact why would having it mean you are more likely to have other stds? ive also heard its a sighn that you could have aids? why the heck would it have anything to do with aids?

Several questions here.

Mollusca can be passed on during sex, but they are also common in children who aren't sexually active. There are actually a few different molluscum viruses, some of which are more likely to be passed on sexually than others.

People with AIDS have a problem with a specific type of immune function, and bugs that are usually kept under control by that type of immune function can become a problem. One of those bugs is the molluscum virus. People with HIV-damaged immune systems tend to get more mollusca than people with normal immune systems.

Mollusca tend to spread if they are cut or broken. People who shave their pubic hair sometimes nick a molluscum and spread them around the pubic area.

Generally, if doctors identify one sexually transmissible infection it alerts them to look for others. However if you have mollusca it doesn't necessarily mean you have other STIs. They're very common.  (+ info)

Is Molluscum Contagiosum still contagious even after most of the spots are gone and are barely noticeable?

Probably not but if you can't remove the core from the remaining spots, just puncture them with a sterile needle. This will finish them off.  (+ info)

How painful is having Molluscum Contagiosum in the genital area removed using Salicylic Acid?

I am going to my doc to have this done, am I going to be really sore afterwards?
----------

I do not think that it is very painful, just wanted to let you know that it can sometimes take quite a long time for molluscum to disappear, may be months. so dont be discouraged if they dont go away right off with the first treatment  (+ info)

Molluscum contagiosum can be spread from person to person by direct skin contact. It is harmless and never turns cancerous no one has the right to deny an education to a child just because of a diese. other parents should be notified and precautions taken but dont blow it out of porpotion  (+ info)

Has anyone had a viris called MOLLUSCUM CONTAGIOSUM?

I know the little bumps can last up to 2 years but, I was wondering from personal experience if it normally lasts that long? And how long does it keep spreading and itching for? Are there any remedies?
----------

Molluscum lesions may go away on their own in six to nine months, but can persist, via autoinoculation, for up to four years. Treatment is often unnecessary.

The virus can spread from one part of the body to another or to other people. Molluscum contagiosum is contagious until the bumps are gone—which, if untreated, may be up to 6 months or longer.

There are a few treatment options that can be done at home. Betadine surgical scrub can be gently scrubbed on the infected area for 5 minutes daily until the lesions resolve (this is not recommended for those allergic to iodine or betadine). For mild cases, over-the-counter wart medicines, such as salicylic acid may shorten infection duration. Daily topical application of tretinoin cream ("Retin-A 0.025%") may also trigger resolution. [2] [3] These treatments require several weeks for the infection to clear. Also treating with apple cider vinegar (soak cotton ball in vinegar, place on molluscum, then cover with band-aid for 24 hours. Wart will be gone with only scab remaining)

Does anyone know about Molluscum Contagiosum?

Hey the doctor told me that I have Molluscum Contagiosum and it is in my genital area. I got tested for all other stds and they all came out negative. He said it would take 6-12 months to get rid of them by itself. He just told be to pop them when they come but I can't. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of them faster? I just got tea tree oil and started it yesterday Also can I have sex with this? with protection of course. what about oral sex without protection? thanks.
----------

You should refrain from sex for awhile. The normal treatments in your case would be cryotheraphy, curettage, or imiquimod. You may want to see another doctor that might want to be a little more aggressive with the treatment. Good Luck! Believe me, it still will take some time.  (+ info)

Molluscum contagiosum in sexually active adults?

For last 5 Months I have been with single partner. I and my partner have accquired Molluscum contagiosum in our genital area. Does that mean that I have recieved it from my partner? 5 months prior i have been with random partners. Can I be infected at that time and that the lesions are turning up now? My girl seems to be decent and its hard believe that she has been involved in infidelity while being with me in relationship for last 5 months. Please help
----------

This is caused by an easily spread virus, and can even be spread by towels etc.

My toddler caught it - presumably at playgroup - when only 18 months old.

It does not need to be sexually transmitted.  (+ info)
