my daughter has a blue spot on her shoulder, quite small with lump in. It's not a mongolian blue spot.?

The spot was given a name by a paedeatrician once but i can't remember what it was. All current doctors seem to say its a mongolian blue spot, which it is NOT.

Sounds like it may be a port wine stain, or maybe a haemangioma.

The link below is good, it shows the marks and tells you what they are.  (+ info)

What is a Mongolian Spot?

I think I have one.
I have a small patch of skin thats a lot lighter than the rest of my skin.

Is that a mongolian spot and what do they do?
----------

A mongolian spot is usually a deep bluish colored flat area, at the base of the spine. It represents mole tissue cells that are so deep as to reflect a blue color back up to your eyes when you view it. They aren't dangerous, but merely cosmetic. Many of them fade in time. The fact that you have a spot which is lighter is obviously not a mongolian spot. If the spot has been there as a birthmark, make sure to point it out to your doctor, as some of those have potential medical significance.  (+ info)

My 15 month old son is mixed. When will his Mongolian spot go away?

He has a birthmark (mongolian spot) that covers his entire left butt cheek. Will it fade? Become smaller?

My twins have them too...one on the lower back and the other has one on her shoulder and her lower back...they usually go away whithin a few yrs. or at least fade but my pediatrician said they can have them for the rest of their life....they worry me because i dont want ppl to think i beat them or something lol have your doctor make a note in their records that they have a spot so if something like that ever happens u can prove that its not a terrible bruise..just a birthmark  (+ info)

Mongolian spot treatment?

My sister was born with a Mongolian spot, as are many babies of Asian descent, I read that they are supposed to disappear around the age of 4, however, she is now 16 years old and it's still there. She feels really self conscious about it and wonders if it will be permanent and if there are any ways to get rid of it.
A mongolian spot is a blueish bruise-looking thing that's usually on the butts of babies.

My 2 month old developed a round, brown spot on her cheek - what is it and will it go away in time?

The brown spot is about an 1 inch long, 1/2 inch in diameter. It has the same feel as the other skin on her face. The doctor says it will go away in time, but I've been finding information on cafe au lait spots on-line and mongolian spots that say the discoloration is permanent. Can someone please clear this up?
----------

It could be a birth mark. My kids developed pale brown marks on different parts of their bodies, not on the face though. They were not there at birth but developed when they were exposed to the sun. Like a very large freckle. They still have them now and they are fairly grown up.
Try to keep the area covered when in the sun, use a high protection sun screen to stop the patch from darkening,
When your daughter is big it wont matter if she wears foundation to cover it.  (+ info)

What is it? Mongolian spots are a very common birthmark seen in newborns on the lower back, buttocks and sometimes the legs. They appear as slate-gray or blue-black patches that almost look bruise like but are unrelated. They can be smaller than a dime to several inches in diameter. These occur in well over 3/4 of Negro, American Indian and Oriental infants, but they can also appear in Caucasians as well.

What causes it? These are due to deposits of pigment cells (melanocytes) deep in the skin. Usually these spots disappear in early childhood, but in some cases they may persist into adulthood.

Is it dangerous? Mongolian spots are a harmless disorder. It is not related to cancer and it does not involve internal organs.

Can it be cured? Treatment is not needed as these resolve on their own.

Will it spread? They do not spread but a person can have more than one spot.  (+ info)
