Can a Mongolian Spot show up on the forehead in the 7th month?

My 7 month old son has a large dark spot on his forehead that has just shown up. It looks like a light bruise. His Dr today said it's a Cafe au Lait spot. He does have what looks like Cafe au Lait spots else where including armpit and groin area. Needless to say after reading about Care au Lait spots on the internet, I'm completely freaking out!! I can't sleep and am calling the Dr in the morning to get a referral to a Dermatologist. I'm wondering if maybe the spot on his head could be a Mongolian spot instead? His father has some Native American in him.

My daughter has a Mongolian spot on her tailbone. She's had it since birth, she's 9 months now. I *really* don't think that a Mongolian spot just materializes. I've never seen or heard of an instance where it does or has.  (+ info)

I have a large birthmark called a mongolian spot that is on my back. Is there any chance of having it removed?

I've never met anyone with it after puberty. It usually disappears afters, but not in my case.I avoid wearing low cut tops or anything with even a slightly low neckline. Being a teenager doesn't help either,because yes, people judge others.It is not small enough to have a person look past it. Because most people have it disappear on its own, is it possible to have it lasered off? I'd rather not spend money on a consultation to only hear it cannot be taken off.

Please don't post what a mongolian spot is. I've had it for all my life. I know the characteristics of it, because it's on my body.
by neckline i mean the whole item of clothing and how low it goes. clothing on me looks like modern day urkle with everything way too high ha

Was your baby born with a mongolian spot? Did it go away?

My six month old still has hers, and it's about the same size as when she was born.
Also, my friend's six year old still has hers as well, but according to her mom it is much diminished in size and paler than when she was a newborn.  (+ info)

What's the Mongolian spot?

I hav a little spot on my lower back but why do people say it's common in people of certain races that are related to eachother by genetics.Can anyone explain this to me.and yes I'm Native American
----------

The mongolian spot is an inheritable birthmark that is common in (you guessed it) Mongolia and other east-asian areas. The spot is congenital, which means that it's passed from parents to their children. Because it's so rare outside of Asia, and can only be passed genetically, it is believed that Native Amerians have asian ancestors, since they have it too.  (+ info)

what the treatment for Mongolian spot?

Most fade away on their own in the first 2-3 years of life (if not, by puberty)...so are not treated at all.

If persistent, surgery may be the only option.

Specialized laser treatment may help...(?)

...you'd need a good dermatologist...

I have a mongolian spot and it started bleeding, what do i do?

I have mongolians spots on my right butt cheek. There was a very dark pimple type thing. I decided to break the skin with the tweezers on the pimple to get rid of any pus or anything that was there. Instead a spray of blood came out. It kept on bleeding till I was able to stop it by applying pressure. But it tends to start bleeding again if I rub anything over that spot. Should I go to a doctor? Did I cut a vein or something? Please help. I think the bleeding has stopped now, but I don't know how long that will last. Also this happened about 15 min ago. Thanks in advance.

You'd better go to a doctor, seriously.  (+ info)

What is this blue spot I have on my back along the spine?

It's about the size of a dime. I've always had it. It's light blue and flat (looks like discolored skin).

I Googled it and came up with "Mongolian blue spots". But, apparently is prevalent among Mongols and other Asian groups (Chinese, Koreans, Japanese, Vietnamese).
It's also prevalent among East Africans, Native Americans and Hispanics.

I'm not from any of those descents mentioned above. I'm really fair-skinned and most of my heritage (as far as I know) is English or Scottish.

Is that kinda weird that I would have something like that?
What else could this be?
----------

I looked around for what I could find, I spotted a series of articles that stated the same thing so I put that together and came across the following:

Skin discoloration - bluish
Definition:

Cyanosis is a bluish discoloration of the skin or mucous membranes caused by lack of oxygen in the blood.

Skin coloration is determined by the amount of pigment in the skin and the blood flowing through it. Blood that is saturated with oxygen is bright red. Blood that has lost its oxygen is dark bluish-red. People who have a large quantity of blood deficient in oxygen tend to take on a bluish discoloration called cyanosis.

Many people get brief, bluish-purplish, painful color changes in their fingers (called Raynaud's syndrome) resulting from spasm of blood vessels in the hands, often in response to the cold. Some people with Raynaud's syndrome also have a collagen-vascular disease called scleroderma.

Common Causes:

* Brief exposure to cold air or water
* High altitudes
* Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
* Pneumonia, severe
* Pulmonary edema
* Congestive heart failure
* Pulmonary hypertension
* Shock
* Hyaline membrane disease associated with prematurity
* Aspiration with suffocation
* Breath-holding
* Bronchiolitis
* Congenital heart disease
* Croup
* Epiglottitis
* Asthma
* Seizures
* Drug overdoses (narcotics, benzodiazepines, sedatives)
* Drowning or near-drowning

There is talk of serious things, but if you look into the asthma, cold, possible high altitudes and see about how long it's been there. But in the end, as always it's best to see a doctor about it because they alone know what it truly is.  (+ info)

The Mongolian Blue Spot Birthmark?

Both Me and My Babys Dad are white Yet Our Baby has these Birthmarks? Not That I mind I think Theyre very sweet! Hes 8 Months old now and They are still here, Is there anyone else with any knowledge of 2 caucasian People having a child with these marks? and Will they be Permenant? Thanks In advance
----------

Hi. common birth mark is, as you are aware, merely an patch of excessive melanocytes distributed into the deeper reticulocyte layers. This is just a temporary VARIANT of normal. It is transitory because as the baby grows, those same cells will be stretched out. As a part of this, your ability to perceive them will decrease. I also believe that if you want to search deep into historical clinical dermatology you will find this phenomenon in your given present ethnic situation. I believe that any statement of frequency of ethnic distribution is also a mathematical bell shape distribution curve and therefore only significant to those who find it either fascinating or troubling.

Good journey to you and baby.  (+ info)

Have your baby's mongolian spots ever been mistaken for bruises?

My son is going to attend child care soon (I live in Canada). He's got a number of mongolian spots on his body. I would hate for them to be mistaken for bruises.

I will show them in advance to the staff. I was thinking that maybe I should document them with pictures.

Moms of children with mongolian spots, did you do something special? Were your child's mongolian spots ever mistaken for bruises? Did you find that the child care staff is usually knowledgeable about it?

Thanks in advance for any reassurance / advice.
----------

My son has a huge one right above his butt and my mom is the only one who has ever mistaken it for a bruise. My doctor knew what it was right away and no one who has watched him has ever questioned it. I think that you are smart to give the staff a heads up in advance, but it seems that most people have at least heard of them. I wouldn't worry too much about it. I've never had any problems or accusations. Besides people who work in the child care industry can tell the difference between children who are abused and those that just have bruises or birthmarks.  (+ info)
