What happens if a hairline fracture goes untreated?

I have a hairline fracture in the growth plate of my ankle and it has been like this since December. I have gone to the doctor and been in a boot, cast, physical therapy ETC. And it just will not heal at all. Like it just wont! Is there a way to get it to get better? Otherwise what will happen if I just gone on like normal and don't do any further treatment? Because right now I feel like just giving up.
----------

Bone spur could happen. Get a different doctor your ankle should be healed by now. Get some blood work done you may be low in something like calcium, vitamin D, etc.  (+ info)

What is the difference between Fracture bedpan and regular bedpan?

What is the difference between Fracture bedpan and regular bedpan?
----------

A fracture bedpan is smaller and goes under the patient from the front.....as not to injure the person who has had a fracture by turning them over, ( Hence, fracture pan)
Regular bed pan is larger and the patient is usually turned on one side, the pan is put under them and then rolled back on the pan.  (+ info)

How long does it take for a toddler fracture to heal in a cast?

My almost 2 year old son has fractured his lower leg and has a cast on it for 4 weeks. The radiologist missed the fracture the first time and 4 days later we went back and he had to get the cast. My question is - how long will it take for him to want to walk on it again? Will he be able to walk on it with the cast and when should I see him want to do this. Also he seems a lot more cranky and tired than usual. Is this normal? Help! I feel so bad for the poor little guy!
He also seems not as interested in eating. He just got the cast on Mon am.

3 TO 4 Weeks Hope This Helps...

A toddler fracture is, not surprisingly, a common fracture of toddlers and preschoolers. It occurs when the child is running or steps on something on the floor and loses his footing. A sudden twisting of the tibia (shin bone) causes a fracture in a spiral pattern. These can be actually quite difficult to see on xray unless or even if the angle of view is just right. A bone scan may be needed to show the fracture. Eventually the fracture site will be visible as healing begins and new bone is formed to repair the fracture.

Symptoms are what one would expect: pain, refusal to walk, minor swelling or warmth over the fracture, and pain when the site of the fracture is pressed. A long-leg cast is applied to relieve the symptoms. Healing is rapid, within 3 or 4 weeks.  (+ info)

Can someone confined to a wheel chair have a fracture or break a bone?

The fomer First Lady from Taiwan claimed to have a fracture on her knee a few days ago. The intriguing thing is that she's been confined to her wheel chair for many decades now, and she never needs to worry about moving around since there are always professional people to carry her on and off her wheel chair. So, this led me to wonder if someone like her can have a fracture or break a bone? If yes, how does that happen? I'm very curious, and your help will be greatly appreciated.
----------

If she's been confined to a wheelchair for decades and she has osteoporosis, then yes, she can break a bone just by moving the wrong way. My mother in law has osteroporosis and she broke a rib simply by coughing. It can happen.  (+ info)

How do you treat a compound fracture when you can't afford medical bills?

My boyfriend (Brad) was skiing and he got a compound fracture in his arm. How can we care for it if we can't afford medical bills? How do we take care of it at home?
----------

You cannot fix something like this at home.

You have no way of knowing if he has done damage within his arm that you cannot see.

Take him to the doctor. Most physicians will go easy on you as far as billing goes if you explain that you don't have insurance (or have crappy insurance). Their billing departments will set you up on a payment plan so that you can pay off the balance in installments.  (+ info)

How many days it would take for a thumb fracture to heal?

I am 26 years old, met with a motor cycle accident some days back and got my right hand thumb fractured and the doctors said that it takes a minimum of 6 weeks for the fracture to heal and some others say that it doesn't take that much time. I was operated and a wire was placed near the thumb. Could you please help me to know when i can recover completely?
----------

Hey ksn,
Sorry to hear about your accident. My friend recently fractured his index finger playing soccer and it took only two weeks to heal. However, it ultimately depends on the degree of the fracture, that is, how long the fracture is. Unfortunately, the thumb is much more used than the index finger but I suggest you tape your thumb to your hand so that you cannot move it. If this fracture is on your dominant hand, buy a metal finger brace. All drug stores should carry these for around $5. Take ibuprofen to keep the swelling down and try to minimize the usage of the thumb. After two weeks go in for another x-ray. While it would probably take a full six weeks for the fracture to heal completely, after two weeks your thumb would already be usable. Doctors recommend the extra weeks to ensure the chance of another fracture or break is minimal. Just be aware and careful of the thumb after two weeks.  (+ info)

What does a hairline crack or stress fracture in the left forarm ulna feel like?

I got in a car accident(Driver side tbone with windows down) and I'm beinging to think I got one of those two because occasionaly I lose all feeling in my left hand anything below where the said fracture/crack would be. I have a pretty high pain treshold so I don't know what one would feel like. I only get discomfort when ever I move my hand in awkward positons.
----------

The symptoms you are describing sound more like nerve or tendon damage at the site of the 'crack'. You didn't give enough other information to say much else, but have an Orthopedic MD take a look at it. You need your hands all your life.  (+ info)
