Can breathing through my mouth cause a throat ache which comes with a fever?

I can't breath throughmy nose, so I have been breathing through my mouth. I know that breathing through your mouth can cause a throat ache and can all of that cause a fever. Most of all if my nose is cleared and i breathe through my mouth will the fever go away?
----------

I am also a mouth breather due to nasal problems. the dryness of the mouth can increase the liklehood of sore throats, coughs etc. I sip fluids regularly and use throat lozenges to keep the chance of infection to a minimum, I would see your doctor about clearing your nasal passages.  (+ info)

how do i stop breathing from my mouth when i sleep?

i want to breathe through my nose because when i wake up, my mout feels all dry, and my lips and gums feel all nasty. i also heard by breathing through your mouth, it gives you a higher risk at gum disease and all that. is that true?
----------

You need to get some of the Breathe Right strips. It helps to open your nasal passages, so that you breathe out of your nose, as opposed to your mouth.  (+ info)

Why do I get a metallic taste in my mouth after I work out really hard & am breathing really hard?

I am a figure skater (skate 4 days/week). I was wondering why (when I am breathing really hard) I get this metallic taste in my mouth. I know it comes from my lungs because I can taste it in the air that is coming up from my lungs. Is this all part of building up your stamina? Is it just a sign that my lungs are stretching more to accomodate more air? I really do work hard on the ice.

Thanks everyone!

The metallic taste is the iron in your blood that you taste. You got blood rushing through your body, no big deal that you can taste it, just as long as your not spitting up blood.  (+ info)

How do I stop mouth breathing?

I have had trouble with my adenoids all through my childhood, and now as an adult I have a bad habit of mouth breathing, even though there's nothing wrong with my nose. How do I kick the habit? I have been tempted to tape my mouth shut or gag myself while sleeping, but I'm afraid I'll just suffocate myself.

How do you kick the habit of mouth breathing?

how do you stop mouth breathing?
it's just a bad habit
----------

Assuming that you have no impairment with breathing through your nose. Some people breathe through their mouth because for some reason they don't get enough air exchange through the nose.

Anyway, assuming that's not the case, try using sugar-free gum. Keep a piece of gum in your mouth, either chewing it or just closing your teeth on it. This encourages you to close your mouth.  (+ info)

When do babies start breathing out of their mouth?

I know that when babies are born they only breathe from their nose but I was wondering when they begin to breathe thru their mouth.
----------

Babies draw their first breath of air as soon as their mouth is cleaned out of all the amniotic fluid from delivery. But while in the womb they mimic the motions of breathing thru their mouth. They probably would thru the nose but their nose is pluged by mucus plugs til delivery.

In the link theres a 3-d pic of a baby upclose, now if the baby had their head angled up you could almost see the plugs in their nose I was talking about.

What is the medical treatment of mouth breathing?

My daughter who is 91/2 years old, breathes through mouth during sleep . I have consulted ENT Specialists and they advised surgery of adenoids and tonsils.Should I go for surgery of Adenoids and Tonsils both or Tonsils only?
----------

Both my children had their tonsils and adenoids removed. It took about 5 days to recover (sore throat). It was well worth it, no more snoring, tonsillitis and less colds. We would have done the procedure much sooner had we known what difference it would make.  (+ info)
