How do I tell my partially deaf housemate that he needs to cut out the mouth breathing!?

It seems like the inhales are the loudest. It drives me crazy to be in the room with him when the room is quiet!
----------

Just tell him. Obviously, he can't hear it and has no idea what it sounds like or how much this bothers you. If you bring it to his attention, I'm sure he'll make a conscious effort to stop. Tell him in a nice way and I'm sure he'll understand.  (+ info)

What is breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth good for?

And when should I do it e.g when working out, punching, running etc.
----------

Yeah its good because when you are exercising, when you breathe through your nose, the hairs filter the bad stuff out so you get better quality air/oxygen which helps you last longer  (+ info)

Having trouble breathing through my mouth?

For the past 5 days I've had a cold, and the symptoms were mostly away yesterday. I then started coughing and my throat got sore. When I woke up this morning my throat didn't hurt so much anymore but I'm having trouble breathing through my mouth. My voice is also very raspy, and when I cough I can feel mucous.
What's wrong with me, and should I go to the doctor even though I don't feel so sick anymore?
----------

It sounds like you have a lot of congestion and that you are dried out. You need lots of fluids to break up the thick mucous, also try inhaling steam to loosen the mucous in your bronchial area, stay away from the antihistamines, if you have to use something use a decongestant. Cough preparations really don't do much, you'd probably get more cough relief from a lemon/honey tea mixture.
I, personally wouldn't go to a dr. but that has to be your own decision about whether you go or not.  (+ info)

3 reasons why braething to your nose is better than breathing to your mouth?

*Detailed and concrete explanation please.
----------

1. The nose has Cilia (Hair) which filters dust and other harmful particles.

2. When you breathe through the nose, air passes through the olfactory canal. There, air is moistened to prevent dryness of your airways.

3. Breathing through your nose allows you to smell things, due to the olfactory receptor cells present in the nasal canal.  (+ info)

Using your nose is always best. And yes, it can be very annoying when it is stuffy. Use your mouth if you have to, but try using some decongestant medication to open up your sinuses.  (+ info)
