What are your thoughts about passing on a long standing family name to your baby?

My husband's name is Mahlon Kirkin VI, (the Sixth!) Now that I'm pregnant, I'm getting questions from his family if I'll name the baby the Seventh. The name is very old fashioned and I just can't seem to make a decision on it. My husband is in full favor of naming him Mahlon Kirkin VII. What are your thoughts if you were in this position?

The last name has been changed to protect the innocent. :)
----------

Oh, you have to name him the 7th, your husband will be crushed if you don't. Men try to put on a strong front, but really, they take pride in knowing that their baby is named after them. A man can't carry the baby in the womb, a man can't breastfeed, a man can't do very many of the things the woman gets to do for the baby. A lot of times this will make them feel distant from the pregnancy, and ultimately, the baby. You should do as much as you can to make him feel more involved and special. My grandmother-in-law told me a story about her husband Ray _______. She said that when she was gave birth to their first boy, she asked him if he wanted to name it Ray _____ Jr. He (probably too embarrassed to admit it) said no, he didn't need it, but she said she got the feeling he did. They ended up naming the boy _______ ray _______, so he had his middle name. She said, on his death bed, he told her he wished he had had his name passed down and ____ ray ____ was really ra________ jr. So, even the man who isn't coming from a legacy of the same name, they still want it. Don't make your husband resent you or be angry with you until he is on his death bed. PS My husband is a JR and our first son will be the III (or jr jr as I like to call it :) )  (+ info)

Is it possible to repair a severed VII cranial nerve?

A year ago while stretching during a shave I felt a sharp pain travel up my neck, I thought it could be a clood vessel or something harmless so I left it. But recently I have found that half of my face is dropping slightly. After researching my condition I found that I must have severed my VII cranial nerve. Is there a way that this could be repaired??

Thanks
Thank you for your answers. I am now wondering as I have felt a twitch in my neck and generally all over at different times whether it is possible that the artery has not properly clotted and I am bleeding internally and if so does anybody know how harmful that is?
I'm going to the doctor this evening anyway.
----------

Yes it is possible to repair it:you must see a Dr first.
My mothers face(one side only) was paralysed, and she did not have surgery:she had physiotherapy.
It was basically 2-3times a week, going to the hospital, and the nurse/therapist was using a low electric current to stimulate the muscles in the face. She had to re-learn to move her face muscles. It took some time.
Please go to the Dr, and get referral to neurologist.  (+ info)

Facial nerve does not supply all muscles of facial of expression?

People and many books keep saying facial nerve supplies "all" muscles of facial expression. But levator palpebral superiorus is by CN III not CN VII. Therefore I say facial nerve supplies almost all muscles of facial expression, EXCEPT for levator palpebral superiorus which is by CN III. Is this correct?

Thank you.
----------

Hi,
If you want to get technical, the oculomotor nerve, CN III controls the levator palpebral muscle which controls the eyelid to open the eye.
I don't believe that you can call that a muscle of facial "expression".
You must be studying anatomy.
Good luck and I hope this helped.

How much would this tattoo cost?

I want to get a roman numerals tattoo on my wrist in white ink, the roman numerals are VII - III - MMVIII. I want it to be small all on one line, possibly 2. Does anyone know how much i should expect to pay? I don't want to get a crappy one so I have no problem paying extra. This will be my first tattoo so I don't really know how much they cost. Thanks -Jess
----------

Don't get white! It fades, you'll have to get touch ups all the time. Looks terrible! Some artist wont even do it.

Shouldn't be more then $200, if it is your are getting ripped off! Even $200 would be a lot.

I would go to different shops, look at their art first!
Show them what you want and where and ask how much.

Always shop around!  (+ info)
