What type of Medicine are you taking for your Multiple Sclerosis?

My brother who is now 24 yrs old has Multiple Sclerosis (MS). He went from jogging 2-3 times and week, playing basketball everyday to barely holding his self up. He can't walk more than 5 feet without leaning on someone or something. This kills me! He had minor symptoms of MS in the beginning but as soon as he started taking his medicine, it got a lot worst I believe.

I just wanted to ask what medicine do you MS patients have? My brother said Mitt Romney's wife has it and hers have went into remission after she started taking "eastern" medication. I don't know if that's true or not. If someone that has MS can tell me what type of medicine there doctor has them using and after what time period did they start seeing results? Please ONLY MS patients need reply

If you have a story on how you overcame it or how a treatment effected your MS in a good way, please share your story. Your reply would be appreciated! Thanks!

Is it dangerous for women with von Willebrand's disease type 2A to get pregnant?

I am doing some research on this hereditary bleeding disorder and I'm trying to find the answer to this question. I'm curious to know if it is too dangerous for women with von Willebrand's disease type 2A (the more serious form of the disease) to endure childbirth. Also, should women with this disease avoid getting pregnant because it is frequently passed down through parents to children?
----------

Whether or not someone chooses to have a baby due to the fact that they may pass on the gene is totally up to them. I won't go so far as to say they are not allowed or shouldn't do it. If they choose to do it, it's their choice and I won't judge them at all.

As for getting pregnant, and giving that's completely possible. Many women with von Willebrand's actually show some improvement in their condition because the hormones during pregnancy increase many clotting factors. Also, natural birth is completely possible.

I found this for you:

There are some dangers, but if the OBGYN and hematologist work together it can be managed quite effectively.

Do a search on Google for "von Willebrand's disease and pregnancy" and you will find more information than you'll know what to do with.  (+ info)

What is a good type of cake to use for multiple layers?

I am making a three tiered cake that has a square cake on the bottom and two round cakes on top..what type of cake should I use that handles well and isn't very loose and crumbly? I heard that a lot of people use a pound cake..let me know what you guys think!
----------

You can use carrot cake... that holds up well. Or a nice sponge cake.
You can add flavors to the sponge by drizzling on a liqueur like chambord or frangelico before you ice it. Those are especially nice with a light sponge.  (+ info)

----------

What type of Multiple Sclerosis complications can you die from?

I have MS. I know that MS does not cause death. I have heard of people dying from complications of MS. What kind of complications? I have done a search online, but it is very vague.
----------

Hi Diamond, The complications that we can die from are dehydration and malnutrition. If a person is unable or unwilling to take care of themselves and family or the state does not step in...........

The consequences of inactivity also can be fatal. Infected bedsores, stasis pneumonia and heart attacks take some of us.

Kidney failure can happen as a result of urine retention. Those of who cannot entirely empty the kidneys are far more more prone to bladder infections. This is turn leads to kidney problems and failure.

Depression for some culminates in suicide.

That is about all that I can come up with. You might want to go to the website http://www.multiplesclerosissucks.com
for a more in depth explanation.  (+ info)

What type of infection or reaction can you get from multiple leech bites?

My daughter got bitten by 25 - 30 leeches at one time all below the knee. some would not stop bleeding, and she had significant swelling in her ankles and feet
----------

Leech bites tend to itch while healing, but this is normal. Itching is not reason for alarm, although the wound should be watched to ensure it is healing and to make sure there are no signs of infection.

Is there any type of funding for kids with multiple disabilities?

I have a grandson who's 4 yrs old with cerebral palsy, arthrogryposis, chronic lung disease, etc. He has a tracheal diversion, feeding tube, etc. I'm looking for any information on information about funds that are out there to help, with putting in a ramp, getting a vehicle for a wheelchair, etc.
----------

It depends where you live. In CA, we have Regional Centers. Other states should have similar agencies to help. The Regional Center here has paid for hot tubs, wheelchair ramps, home construction to widen doorways for wheelchair access, etc.

Check with Easter Seals, or United Cerebral Palsy. They will have info. to guide you along in your search. Good luck.  (+ info)
