how does a Musculoskeletal Exam declare you disabled?

my mom is applying for diabiility and in order for a decision to be made she is required by the stat to have a Orthopedic / Musculoskeletal Exam if she DOES NOT have it she will be automatically denied for benefits how do these exams actually delcaire you disabled and how long will this test take?
----------

Joints are designed to move certain degrees in certain direction and the Doctor will know this information. If the person can move the joints beyond the norm they have a problem, if they cannot move them or not as far as they should, then they have a problem. Problems with the spine also affect the way joints move. Much depends on the reason for applying for disability, the exam can be every single joint making about one hour test or just specific joints making ten minute test. Seems your Mom problem has to do with joints and muscles.  (+ info)

I have regular blood tests because Im a diabetic. it is also checked for liver, kidney abnormalities etc?

I got the latest results back today which were showing arthritis. Does anyone know, would this be rheumatoid arthritis as I cant imagine osteo- arthritis showing in a blood test.
I have got health problems following a stroke 4 years ago.
Hope somebody knows and thanks in advance.
----------

You are correct most arthritides ( types of arthritis) do not produce diagnostic blood tests. However rheumatoid arthritis shows up in SOME patients that have it, if a specific test is done. A positive test can be recorded in a patient with no symptoms, and a negative test can occur in a patient with severe symptoms, so the result must be combines with what is happening to the patient.  (+ info)

what causes miscarriage is it abnormalities or is it caused by what you do?

Is a miscarriage going to happen cause something is not right or is it because of something you do eg like stress excercise lifting or smoking, drinking.
----------

both. most miscarriages were caused by a genetic/chromosomal problem or it just wouldnt work. but SOME can be caused by doing bad things to your body whilst pregnant that why there are warnings for pregnant women for certain items or try to prevent them from doing a certain activity..good luck i hoped i helped.  (+ info)

How many women out there had nuchal thickening on their s-gram and gave birth to babies without abnormalities?

My sister had a 12 week sonogram and the Dr. said everything was good but the neck was thicker than they'd like. She's debating a cvs, but would like to hear from women who had this scare when everything turned out fine... *Thanks*
----------

well i wish i could give you a happy ending story. however i am currently going through the same thing!! when i got my nuchal testing about a month ago it was a 2.9, so i had a 1/79 chance of DS in one of my twins. i decided to get an anmiocent.. just to put an ease on my mind.
but tell your sister that there are ALOT of false positives with this. my doctor told me i could recieve 3 different nuchal testings and get 3 completely different results. the test can be altered because of the position of the baby, its own personal neck growth, etc.
my suggestion is to weigh out her risks. how old is she? has she had a child with dissabilities before? she also can wait a few weeks and get an in depth ultra sound like i did. they check for other signs of DS and other issues with the baby. also if time is not an issue (she has to wait another 3 weeks, and two weeks for the results) i would suggest an amnio over a cvs. the risk for miscarriage is quite alot less!!
good luck!!  (+ info)

just wandering when do physicians find out that the baby has abnormalities?

For example if a woman does not have an amniocentesis and refused the other genetic testings, do they normally find out during their 19 or 20 weeks US when they also find out the sex or it is found out during the latest ultrasound at 8 months. Thanks in advance I am 26 weeks pregnant.
----------

They do the anatomy scan during the 20wk ultrasound and I am sure they can see any abnormalities. You can probably still get some blood test for genetics if you wanted. I wouldn't worry and just pray for a healthy baby. I had some genetic blood test and the 12wk N/T scan that checks for down syndrome.  (+ info)

What does Boderline T Abnormalities, Inferior Leads means on a EKG?

My EKG States Boderline. Does that mean high risk for a stroke.
----------

Based simply on what you're telling me, that means that you may be having some ischemia (reduced blood flow) to the inferior aspect of your heart (usually seen in leads II, III, and aVF). Ischemia can sometimes be a precursor to a heart attack. EKG is really only going to tell you about your heart, so it doesn't necessarily indicate whether you'd be at increased risk of a stroke. It does, however, indicate you may be at risk for a heart attack. Being borderline changes at the T-waves, that can be one of the earlier signs. Of course, it could also be improperly placed leads (though that is probably unlikely). Do you ever get chest pain? Your doctor will give you more details on what exactly to do.  (+ info)

What are two chromosomal abnormalities diagnosed from a karyotype?

There are many more than two but since that is what you requested in your question, that is what I will give you.

Chromosomal abnormalities that lead to disease in humans include:
Turner syndrome
