I guess that really all depends on what type of congenital heart disease they have. Many do go undiagnosed for years after birth. If the doctor does not detect a heart murmur at birth the odds of the infant being given a echo is pretty rare. Unless of course they are born blue or there is other things suggesting heart disease. When my son had his open heart surgery he was 11 days old. From what I saw in our 4 months in the ICU was at least 2 open heart surgeries on newborns a week. Evidentially about 1-100 babies are born with congenital heart disease. About 5 percent of those babies will require some sort of heart surgery. Heart failure may or may not happen. Many infants as you can see by the above statistics do not require any type of surgery.   (+ info)

Is it dangerous or can it be cured a congenital arrhythmia?

I know someone who has arrhythmia, and i'm just a little bit worried!!That someone has told me that it is very slight and insignificant but i just can't find peace..Can somebody answer my question plz? This problem is congenital so..HELP PLZ!!!
----------

Arrhythmias, whether they are congenital, due to congenital heart diseases or acquired heart diseases can all be treated either with meds or surgery. The arrhythmias may be of rapid heart beat, slow heart beat, electrical conduction defects or premature beats all behave in the same way and need similar treatments whether they are congenital or acquired.

Do not be under the impression that all arrhythmias are serious. There are many that are not harmful. It depends on the underlying heart condition. If your 'someone' said that it is slight and insignificant, then it must be one of those harmless arrhythmias. Cheers.  (+ info)

What is the life expectancy of someone with Congenital Heart Disease?

She has had a pacemaker since birth. She is now 31. Her heart has just recently become weaker. The doctor put her on some medicine to try to strengthen her heart but if that doesnt work, then they want to put a defib. in. What can I expect her life expectancy to be?
----------

Do you mean "congestive heart disease"?
Only the cardiologist can say about the life expectancy based on the type of congenital heart defect, if any, her present condition of the heart and her previous medical records. If she is suffering from heart failure, the stage of congestive heart disease has to be assessed before arriving at a conclusion. (There are four stages for congestive heart disease.)
An implantable cardiac defibrillator is placed in people who are at high risk of sudden cardiac death. Reasons you may be at high risk are:
* You have had life-threatening bouts of ventricular tachycardia (VT) or ventricular fibrillation (VF).
* Your heart is weakened, too large, and does not pump blood very well. This may be from earlier heart attacks, heart failure, or cardiomyopathy (a diseased heart muscle).
* Certain congenital (present at birth) heart problems or genetic health conditions  (+ info)

Anyone know if a Congenital Anomaly in the cervix is dangerous?

I have been experiencing discomfort in my back and the chiropractor said its because my top 2 vertebrae in my neck are connected (never separated in fetal development) thus increasing stress on the rest of my spine. She also said that the bones in my neck are straight rather than curved. I've read online that this can be dangerous, but not any good sources. wondering if anyone can help?

thanks!
----------

Chiropractors can be dangerous! Make an appointment with your doctor or an orthopedic specialist. My advice is to avoid the chiropractor as they can do more harm than good!

Chiropractors have to believe that everything causes conditions that only they can fix so they can convince patients that we can't live comfortably without visits twice per week.

I had a stroke last year as a result of chiropractic treatment and have since made it a priority to raise awareness of the dangers of chiropractic care. Please visit this website to read my story and similar ones of other victims so you may be aware of the risks and make an informed decision about treatment.  (+ info)
