nasopharyngitis is the imflammation of your nasal cavity and your throat area. That's why you can't swallow, because your esophagus is essentially clogged and your nose is stuffed. It's usually caused by a viral or bacterial infection. Your doctor will prescribe you the correct drug to deal with it. For now, try taking non-steriodal anti-inflammatory drugs like acetaminophen.  (+ info)

Medical advice, please. Coughing, Congestion, and Weight Loss?

I have been experiencing some symptoms for quite a while now, as has my little sisters as of a few days ago because I've passed it on to her. We both have the exact same symptoms, obviously. It began with a severe sore throat i guess you could call it. It felt like it was on fire, like someone had put out a full carton of cigarettes on the inside of my throat. About 24 hours later the burning went away but couldn't stop coughing. Soon each cough was spitting out a good amount of mucus. And weirdly enough we have both noticed weight loss which i guess it where I get a little thrown off. We're both usually around 105-ish (though we had not weighed ourselves in a while, we've still be the same weight for quite a few years now) and right now we're both about 98lbs. We're both around the same height give or take an inch or so about 5'1, I'm 17 and she is 16.

We've both gone to the doctor (we don't live together):
My "doctor" (at a clinic in a Walgreens) diagnosed me with Nasopharyngitis (which I looked up and is just a form of the common cold.)
She was diagnosed by her primary care doctor with Bronchitis. (which I know can lead to phenomena if left untreated)

She, who has had symptoms for 3 days now, is beginning to feel a little better she says.
I began feeling symptoms 6 days ago. I'm still coughing a lot but not with quite as much mucus but I am experiencing some shakiness and weakness (similar to the way I felt when I had walking phenomena). And even when eating I'm still loosing weight.

Neither one of us have felt nauseous or gotten sick and have no trouble eating and keeping it down. May have a slight fever in the 99's not nothing sersious.

Any suggestions?
We don't live in the same household but she is at my house 24/7 and only goes home when she needs to. We also go to school together, I drive us both there and we're together at least 5 days out of the week.

So if you're wondering how she got there you go.

Please don't answer with another question.
And please don't answer if you have no idea nor can you help me at all...
I'm looking for actual help. Please and thanks.

Can any doctors or health practitioner out there help me? what do you think is my condition?

Now this is what happened to me.. yesterday, I think i drank something dirty when i bought drinking water from a sidewalk vendor.. After 4 or 5 hours, i started experiencing stomach pains.. a short time afterwards, I started vomiting.. then after a short time, I also started passing out watery stool (pure liquid with no formed feces) .. hmm.. diarrhea perhaps?
The pain went on for hours and i vomited about 5 times.. my vomit was clear fluids with a brown tinge, no food included, and had an extremely bitter taste.. and after a few more hours, i vomited for one last time and it was black in color..
until now, i am still not feeling well.. although the abdominal pain is not that severe anymore, but still occurs every now and then.. i have not yet started vomiting again since that last vomit, but my diarrhea still persists..

I have tried going to the hospital to have a check up.. but they didnt seem to notice anything wrong with me, except that I had cough and colds and some fever.. so their diagnosis was acute nasopharyngitis.. I wondered why they ordered urinalysis and blood exam only, because I was expecting fecalysis or something, since my main complaint was a gastrointestinal problem..
my urinalysis was normal, and according to my blood exam, my WBC and segmenters were both a little high.. they said this showed some signs of infections but told me that it was probably because of my acute nasopharyngitis..
they prescribed co-amoxiclav 3X a day for 7days, Nasatapp capsule 2X a day for 5 days, and paracetamol if ever i still had fever..

what do you think? I'm still a little skeptical about their diagnosis, because I'm pretty sure there's something wrong with my stomach..
Is it really possible that these symptoms are due to my cough and colds? i had cough and colds for three days already, but these symptoms never occurred.. is it possible that these was because i sometimes swallow my phlegm & nasal secretions when i am not able to expel them? sometimes there are streaks of sputum in my vomit, but can they really cause these symptoms?

I really hope someone can help me with this situation.. any opinion would be greatly appreciated.. thanks a lot!
