I have really limp hair but love making soft curls how do i make them stay without drowning them in hairspray?

I love the soft waves/curls look, but i have such limp hair that they never stay! even if i sleep in tight sponge rollers by then end of the day they will be straight! I dont want to have to put in 50 mouses or gells so recommend mists and sprays unless the products work really good. also shampoo and conditioner recommendations would be awsome. peace and love.

I know exactly what you mean about the curls thing; I can never get my hair to stay. I have, however, found one method that works every single time, and the curls stay in FOREVER. It's a two-day process, though, so you have to start it the day before.

1. Take a shower in the morning. Once you're out of the shower, squeeze out the excess water and towel dry very lightly.
2. Pull the hair in a low/medium-low ponytail. On the last time pulling the hair through the ponytail holder, do not pull it all the way through. You should now have a loop at the back of your head.
3. Take one hand and smoosh the loop up against your head (Do this in a way so the ends of the loopy ponytail are underneath the rest of the hair). Move it around a bit so it is relatively flat against your head.
4. Now, still holding your hair to your head with one hand, take the other and bobbypin your hair like there's no tomorrow. It doesn't have to be perfect, just attack your hair. If you have thicker hair you won't need as many bobbypins.
5. Looking at your hair in the mirror, readjust anything if you need to. It should be fairly secure without being too tight.
6. Wear it up like this all day, and sleep in it at night (don't worry, it won't be uncomfortable.

(This on its own is by far my favorite updo. It works on thin and thick hair, and is exceedingly simple. As a matter of fact, ittakes less than two minutes to do, yet every time I wear it people ask me "wow, who does your hair?" and "how long did it take you to get it like that?")

The day after wearing the hairstyle described above, simply let your hair down and it will be beautifully curled. Because your hair was in a messy bun all day, and was most likely damp the entire time, your hair will not be as dirty as if you wore it down or in a simple ponytail. This look is very sexy, and I find it more becoming than natural curls. The best part? Absolutely no products needed!  (+ info)

Why do i have this sudden fear of drowning?

BTW i am a competitive swimmer.
----------

Maybe it's a premonition. Maybe someone is going to try and drown you soon. Or maybe you jsut realized the dangers of swimming. I have major hydrophobia. I don't swim. Just find a new hobby. Idk. DO something. Don't ask us questions we can't answer.  (+ info)

Whats the difference between drowning and suffocating?

Actually, there is no difference. When someone drowns it's not because of water in the lungs. It's because the pharynx or larynx has clamped shut in reaction to water hitting it. The water only enters the lungs after you die and the muscles relax enough to allow water to enter the lungs. So even with drowning you "suffocate" and die from oxygen deprivation of the brain and heart.  (+ info)

If someone were revived after drowning, do they need to go to the hospital?

Just answer as if this were real. They said they don't have any insurance, and don't want to be bothered with it. They had water in their lungs, but CPR got it out. I'd say they were only passed out for 2 minutes and not breathing but had a pulse. Is there any real danger in not going to the hospital? They are up and walking around now. What would your call be?
----------

Absolutely they need to go to the hospital without a doubt. One of the main reasons that popped into my head was fact that he aspirated water is very dangerous. You're looking at the patient developing pneumonia or other respiratory infections at the least, and could result in death.  (+ info)

How much water would it take for a person to drink before drowning !?

This question is right up my alley! I'm a lifeguard and have been for 6 years. Seen lots of stuff...

Anyway- you don't drown by DRINKING water. Yes, you can get "water poisoning" by drinking too much, but you won't drown. It's an entirely different situation.

Now, if you are asking how much water needs to be in the lungs- not very much, maybe a couple ounces. And it's not always right away either.
There is a condition known as secondary drowning, in which you get water into your lungs, are fine, but then could die in your sleep up to 72 hours later from drowning. Weird and scary, I know. People don't give water as much respect as they should. It's lots of fun to swim, and the lifeguards and their rules seem so annoying that you forget that the activity is actually a dangerous one! Even olympic swimmers and lifeguards can drown- no one is immune!

If you are asking how deep the water must be before you can drown, only a couple of inches. You can drown in a puddle (what a horrible way to go), as long as your mouth and nose are submerged. So no, you don't have to be in the deep end of the pool or far out in the river to drown. Bathtub drownings happen waaaay too often.

I hope that the information here is helpful. I teach many lifesaving and lifeguarding courses every year, as well as working as a lifeguard. People always seem so surprised at how vulnerable they are and at how dangerous the activity they choose to do is!

If you need more information, I'd suggest checking out the drowning statistics for your area.  (+ info)

what's the name of the resuscitation method for drowning that involves the person laying face down?

I learned this in the Brownies and can't remember it. You had to push the person's back and then raise their elbows, thus pushing out the water from the lungs.

Holgar Nielsen. But it is so out of date and ineffective.
LOBSTER. The Heimlich manoeuvre is for choking and is now called abdominal thrust.  (+ info)

we encountered a person who was dying from drowning in the ocean, how to give him first aid to save his life?

oh my god! he was lying in the hospital, I guess, because, he was a stranger, and some other people did it already. I asked this just in case if I met a situation like this in the furture alone, what should I do, because I didn't think they did first aid right today, so I wanted to ask how to do it. but I've alread done my best to help him that day.
----------

Some of this is going to sound really basic and self-explanatory but I want to start from the top.

When your in the water you make a fist with your hand and hold your arm straight up. This is the help sign lifeguards use.
Once you have called for help you take the person to shore.
Once you have the person on shore you check their ABC's (Airway Breathing and Circulation) you do this by checking for a pulse on the side of the neck and listening for any air coming out of the person's mouth or nose depending on how that is you start CPR.

CPR should be done at a rate of 30 chest compressions to 2 breaths. I highly recommend you do NOT do CPR on someone if you are not CPR certified.
After, CPR just continue to assess the person and let the professionals take over.

I think it is very good that you are one of the people who likes to know first aid and likes to help strangers out. We need more people like that in our country.  (+ info)

I suffer with Bipolar and I feel like I am drowning. Does anybody else ever feel like this?

I am so depressed, I feel my life is worthless. I feel useless. I feel I have no body to talk to anymore. I hate being like this. I cannot stop crying.
I am sorry for this Yahoo friends but I needed to get this off my chest and see if any other people feel this way.
I have been like this for 2 years and I am 46 years old.

Is it relatively easy to commit suicide by drowning yourself, and if so, why don't more people do it?

Teyana, people already know I'm messed up.
I can what you are saying. I would never attempt suicide unless I was guaranteed it would work anyway; I'm not stupid.
It's just there's this South Park episode where people are committing mass suicide, and they do so by lying upside down in shallow water until they pass out and eventually die. I just wondered if there was any proof this would work.
(By the way, I know SP isn't always factually correct.)

I need to know what the early signs of second hand drowning?

second hand is when your baby is asleep and they choke up water and basically drown in there sleep. My daughter was in a kiddie pool...got knocked over by an adult, and came up coughing...i am freaking out here.
----------

What you are referring to is called "Dry drowning". There is a whole article about it on the MSNBC website. It is when a child gets water into their lungs. The signs are extreme lethargy where they just want to go to sleep, unusual behavior, and difficulty breathing. A child can pass away an hour after they get out of the pool. The child that died in the MSNBC story was 10 and he did not have difficulty breathing. Check it out on the MSNBC website. If you are worried, by all means, take the baby to the ER. It is better to be safe than sorry.  (+ info)
