Why diabetes can cause increased lipolysis in adipose tissue?

Diabetes mellitus is a disease relating to your insulin of the pancreatic islet cells. These are the two rationale why:

Insulin acts to oppose lipolysis and even promotes lipogenesis. In effect, in the absence or deficiency of insulin or even in the high resistance of insulin, which are present amongst diabetes patients, lipolysis generates in fat cells.

Burning of fats can generate energy. Burning of sugars in the body can also generate energy. These energies supply that body on its daily living, in walking, reading and even while sitting in a couch. Amongst diabetics, the sugar can't become an effective source of energy because of the problems with insulin. And lipids or fats are a good source. Hence, in effect as well, lipids must be destroyed (lipolysis) to serve actually as a source.  (+ info)
