What is the connection between fibromyalgia and glandular fever?

How can you protect yourself from this viral infection?
----------

Some medical researchers believe that a virus (such as Epstein-Barr, the mononucleosis virus) is at the core of these diseases. And while no single virus or cause has been firmly associated with CFS, FMS or HAIT, one medical journal reported that 78% of the CFS patients studied in one research effort also tested positive for the Epstein-Barr Virus. Anecdotally, many thyroid patients report having had serious bouts of mononucleosis, or recurrent Epstein-Barr virus, prior to being diagnosed with HAIT.

How do you tell the difference between glandular fever and a viral infection?

(without taking a blood test to find out)
----------

You wouldn't be able to tell the difference based on external symptoms alone. Glandular fever is a virus, and its symptoms are very similar to any number of virus' out there including the flu.

The best indicator without talking to a doctor would be time.

Generally a stomach virus or a flu will resolve after 3-5 days and you'll start feeling better. Mono (glandular fever) usually takes between 2-4weeks. If you haven't seen improvements in the first week, chances are pretty high that it's mono.  (+ info)

How can you remove glandular breast tissue without surgery?

i work out a lot and i eat very healthy. i am a young female so surgery can't be an option for a couple years... how can i get rid of this excess tissue since it is not fat?
----------

You can't. I mean you can preform the surgery yourself but I don't recommend that. For obvious reasons, hopefully. Just wear a good sports bra for now until you can get the surgery. There are many crappy ones out there. If you have larger breasts you need to go to a place like, intimacy. I'm sure they have a web site. You can google intimacy bra's if you want too. My friend is a DD and she gets her sports bra's from there.  (+ info)

Is it possible that I still have glandular fever?

I was diagnosed with glandular fever about 7-8 months ago. Is it possible that I still have it? I do feel very tired and my limbs ache from time to time. Should I have a blood test to see if I still have it?
----------

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glandular_fever

After an initial prodrome of 1-2 weeks, the fatigue of infectious mononucleosis often lasts from 1-2 months. The virus can remain dormant in the B cells indefinitely after symptoms have disappeared, and resurface at a later date. Many people exposed to the Epstein-Barr virus do not show symptoms of the disease, but carry the virus. This is especially true in children, in whom infection seldom causes more than a very mild cold which often goes undiagnosed. Children are typically just carriers of the disease. This feature, along with mono's long (4 to 6 week) incubation period, makes epidemiological control of the disease impractical. About 6% of people who have had infectious mononucleosis will relapse.

Can cancer be mistaken for glandular fever?

a few weeks ago i began to feel very tired and noticed sore throat and lumps about 3/4 of the way dwn my throat. i went to the doctor and had a blood test. she determined i had glandular fever. i am a smoker (less then 10 a day) and had a mouth ulcer which was difficult in healing. she also detected my liver was affected by the glandular fever. could it just be my liver creating the swellings or should i go into this in more detail?
----------

Glandular fever can be determined through a simple blood test.
It is passed easily from person to person. Usually through close contact. (It used to be called the kissing disease, but more likely someone who thought they just had flu sneezed in your face).

Your symptoms are in keeping with glandular fever, you don't actually sound that ill. When I had glandular fever it totally knocked me out.  (+ info)

What are the symptoms of glandular fever?

And how long after catching it will you get symptoms?
----------

Glandular fever is also known as infectious mononucleosis. You can get it and not even know you have it since many people have no symptoms at all. It is transferred via saliva with an incubation period of 4 to 6 weeks.

If you are going to get symptoms, you might have the following:
enlarged lymph glands
sore throat
a rash
tonsillitis
fatigue
swollen eyes
high fever
muscle aches and pains
headaches
loss of appetite  (+ info)

What can I do to help glandular fever?

I've already had lots of painkillers, gargled salt water and have been drinking lots of fluids, is there anything else I can do?
----------

unfortunatly there's not much, just things that can ease symptoms a bit. doctor's can give you throat sprays to numb your throat a bit if that's sore, but from experience they didn't help that much. other than that, just get a lot of rest and keep doing what your doing!
taking echinacea and multivitamins will help build your immune system back up, and help you fight off other bugs when your immune system is recovering from glandular fever :)  (+ info)

What to drink when suffering from glandular fever?

What are some soothing drinks i can have? is hot or cold better? coz my doctor said dont have anything cold.
i have a very sore throat and it is difficult for me to swallow

----------

Gargle with warm salt water to ease a sore throat. Drink plenty of fluids. Fluids help relieve fever and sore throat and prevent dehydration.  (+ info)

Could I have gotten glandular fever from my girlfriend?

My gf seems perfectly healthy but she's the only girl I've kissed/had sex with and now I've been told I have glandular fever.

did i get it from her?
----------

Most Likely.

It is transfered via syliva.

She may well of had a minor case, and your body reacted worse to it. Possible to catch it in other ways but rare.  (+ info)
