What causes you to see things that aren't there out of your peripheral vision?

Sometimes I will go through long periods of constantly seeing things out of my peripheral vision that is not there. Like I will think that someone is standing next to me when no one is there. But then it will go away for awhile and I see everything normal again.
Is there a health reason for this or is it purely psychological?
Thanks!

Hi, I know what you are experiencing! My situation involved thinking I saw a mouse run across the floor while I was on the computer...or shadows flitting around that I knew were nothing. I talked to my doctor about it and first thing he said was to have my eyes checked. I did, needed a stronger prescription. It has been a rare event that this happens since I got the stronger lenses. However, as you say...this has come and gone before so I'm not sure that I've found the answer! Do you also suffer from panic attacks?

How big portion of lung tumors are cancers?

My mum just found out (via x-ray) that she has a tumor in the lungs. She will do further tests next week but for now we know nothing about the tumor itself. Searching the web, I cannot tell if a 'lung tumor = lung cancer', or if there are also less harmful lung tumors. Any insights would be much appreciated.
She has lost quite a bit of weight. At the same time she found out about the lung tumor, she was told that she has had at least two heart attacks (myocardial infarctions). She also has some non-descriptive trouble with one of her legs now. No idea if that is related though.
----------

These are ALL benign (NOT cancer) lung tumors:

Benign tumors: adenoma, benign metastasizing leiomyoma, clear cell (sugar) tumor, diffuse pulmonary lymphangiomatosis, granular cell tumor, hamartoma, hemangioma, hemangiomatosis, inflammatory pseudotumor, Langerhans cell histiocytosis, leiomyoma, lipoma, lymphangiomyomatosis, micronodular pneumocyte hyperplasia, paraganglioma, sclerosing hemangioma, solitary fibrous tumor, squamous papilloma

So, as you can see, a mass or tumor on a chest x-ray does not necessarily mean cancer.  (+ info)

What treatment do you recommend for fibroid tumors?

I was diagnosed with having fibroid tumors back in April. I have two tumors the size of golf balls on my uterus, so far non cancerous. I have some pain and discomfort and heavy uncontrolled bleeding spells. My gyn acts like it's no big deal, but I don't like feeling this way all the time. Does anyone have any advice?
----------

The only treatment for fibroid tumors is surgery. All it is, is thick tissue that causes pain. I had them too and after a while, they had to be removed because they got so big. There's no pill to make them go away. If you feel pain from them, use a warm heating pad and it really eases up the pain. Good luck  (+ info)

How often to people survive brain tumors?

I just found out my aunt has a brain tumor today. It's very unreal to me. The only thing I know about brain tumors is the 11 year old boy from 6th grade that died that year from a brain tumor.
sorry do* not to
I can't give you more information because I wasn't told much. All I know is she is going into surgery next week to try and have it removed.
----------

People survive brain tumors more than you probably are aware. There are different types of brain tumors so it is important to know which type your Aunt has. There is treatment for most types of brain tumor and success will depend upon your Aunts overall health, location of tumor, type of tumor, and her response to treatment.

I know many people who have had primary brain tumors and people who have had secondary brain tumors. At the moment I've seen some brain tumors being treated with Temodar (chemotherapy that crosses the blood/brain barrier), I've seen patients operated on to have the tumor removed, and I know a young lady who just underwent a Gamma Knife surgery to remove 9 lesions from her brain.

Please keep in mind that people do survive brain tumors . . one of the more famous cases would be Lance Armstrong. He was diagnosed and treated successfully ten years ago with testicular cancer. He was a stage IV with metastasis to the lung and brain. He underwent surgery to remove three tumors from his brain. He continued competive bicyling and went on to win the Tour de France seven times.

What is the cause of the peripheral edema that often manifests with glomerulonephritis and nephrotic syndrome?

What is the cause of the peripheral edema that often manifests with glomerulonephritis and nephrotic syndrome?

A. Systemic inflammation

B. Right heart failure

C. Loss of plasma proteins in urine

D. Sodium retention
----------

C.
These kidney conditions cause protein to be lost in the urine. When there is low plasma protein there is low oncotic pressure which causes fluid to leak out of the blood vessels and into the interstitium causing edema.  (+ info)

Would a yeast infection in the blood stream show up on a peripheral blood smear?

I have been battling a high white count for three months. The doctors, and even ENT, treat my "sinus infection" with "antibiotics". I am prone to yeast infections. They just did a peripheral blood smear, told me I was negative for leukemia. I did not really know what this was in the first place. If I had yeast in my blood, would it have shown up on the report of the smear?
----------

A yeast infection is tested locally, where the yeast is growing.
That is put under a microscope and can be found immediately.
Yeast in your blood would be very bad. I have never seen it and hope I never do.  (+ info)

Does any one know how to reduce or eliminate fatty tumors?

I have been told I have fatty tumors. I would like to know if there is a way to dessolve them using natural remedies.
----------

Hi Billie W, it's named Lipomas are benign fatty tumors usually located in subcutaneous tissues.
Surgical excision is the most typical form of lipoma treatment, but other forms of therapy, including steroid injections and liposuction, are becoming increasingly common. Nevertheless, surgery is still considered the best way to completely cure a lipoma.
Thuja occidentalis Arbor Vitae is proposed by the homeopaths for fat deposition as well as many conditions when the body seems to be producing excessive tissues (warts, fibroma, lipoma).
