Does anyone have a suggestion on how to treat ocular migraines?

Also, any idea what causes them?
----------

Funny you should ask. I recently saw my opthamologist for the very same thing. Of course, when I went to him, I had no idea I had OM's. As a migraine sufferer, I'm accustomed to headache pain...this phenomenom, however, involved no pain whatsoever! What drove me to seek medical attention was that while I'd be asleep, shocking spurts of bright white light would explode behind my closed eyelids, startle the crap out of me & wake me up from a dead sleep. I don't like anything messing w/my sleeptime, so I made an appt. to see the doctor. Anyway, he diagnosed ocular migraines. He also said that since they're usually not accompanied by pain, there's really no medical treatment prescribed. He told me to ignore them, that the episodes would pass (they did) & be glad that they weren't a typical head-splitting, debilitating migraine headache! He said causes for them are the same as for regular migraine -- certain foods, alcohol, hormone fluctuations, etc. Does that help?  (+ info)

What lifestyle factors does one have to adjust for high Intra-ocular-pressure?

My optometrist told me I have high IOP during a glaucoma check (20 - confirmed a couple of years ago). Along with this the shape inside my eyes puts me at a higher risk for retinal detachment. Are there any lifestyle (diet, exercise, habits) choices I can undertake to keep my eyes healther? My blood pressure is normal.
----------

You just need to make an
appt with a good opthalmologist and ask him/her these questions.
I doubt if there's anything you can do to lower your IOP
unless its' to begin drops.
I don't think it's fully understood exactly why the
pressure builds or how to
control it without meds.
But 20 is really not that bad.
I would assume they now will
want you to have regular
pressure checks to see if
meds are in order.
Same with the "possible"
retinal detachment.
From personal experience,
I can say that I heard dire
future eye problems long before I even had them and
a couple of the problems they
told me about never developed. I think some
optometrists are just overzealous. An opthalmologist can give you
the real scoop.  (+ info)

What differs Dry Eye from Ocular Herpes?

I've been experiencing dry eye symptoms for around 3-6 weeks. Does this seem a bit too excessive for dry eye alone?
I looked up dry eye symptoms and just about all of those that you noted are associated with both diseases. It said that dry eye can be caused by corneal scarring diseases.
----------

Ocular herpes will cause dramatically worse symptoms than dry eye. Ocular herpes tends to present with 1) erythema (redness) 2) inflammation 3) irritation 4) photophobia (sensitivity to light) 5) pain. So I doubt your symptoms of dryness are related to ocular herpes.

EDIT: In response to your edit, yes dry eye can cause these symptoms but to have these symptoms I would expect your dry eye to be quite severe. Most dry eye symptoms tend to be less severe than this and will respond temporarily to the use of ocular lubricants. So, again I would be surprised if you have ocular herpes based upon the type of symptoms you have.  (+ info)

If I am cockeyed, would getting a ocular prosthetic fix it?

i have a wandering right eye, so will getting an ocular prosthetic in that eye make it look straight?
----------

see and opthamologist, they can surgically fix the muscle attachment A prosthetic eye would be quite cumbersome. You could ask them.  (+ info)

Does anyone know about any treatment for ocular migraines with auras?

I have been getting them recently everyday. They used to only occur about two times a year. Maybe someone knows of a way to avoid them?
-Thanks
----------

Each person has certain "triggers" for migraines - for example, chocolate, and red wine are two common triggers for people. If you can determine what yours are, then avoid them.  (+ info)

Have you ever called into work because of Ocular Rectitus?

Ya know, when you just can't see your ass going into work today?
----------

I found that quite amusing... hee hee.
And yes, I've called off more than once due to "ocular rectitis".  (+ info)

Who do you go see if you think you are having ocular migraines?

I have a problem with the vision in 1 eye which happens about once a month and sometimes not for a year. I get a loss if vision in my eye which is like a squiggly line or an arc in my vision. I cannot see temporarily well enough to read or do anything visual, then the visual loss goes out to my peripheral vision,so I cannot see anything in the periphery then fades out. I looked this up on the internet and think I have what is called an optic migraine or optic neuralgia. Should I see an optometrist, opthamologist or who. I have had this problem for about 15 years.
I sometimes get the visual problem then it turns into a full blown head throbbing pain. A couple years ago, I had the visual problems first, and I knew it was going to be followed by a big headache probably could be described and a migraine that lasted for about 24 hours. but for the last 5 years or so, it has never been accompanied by a headache, although I worry about it showing up again.
Its is crazy, I am a hospital nurse and work with 3 neurologist. We crack jokes and chit chat daily, but I have never mentioned this problem to any of them.
----------

are these visual disturbances accompanied by a headache as well? if so...the loss of vision/squiggly line could be an 'aura' to a migraine. I would first try talking to your family doctor, if they feel you need to see someone else - such as a neurologist - they can give you a recommendation.  (+ info)

Anyone heard of Ocular Lymphoma and where can I research it?

My mom was told she had this and I can't find out anything about it. The more information I have, the better I can deal with this. Thanks ahead of time.
----------

http://www.lymphomainfo.net/nhl/types/b-pol.html

Ocular lymphoma is a subtype of Central Nervous System lymphoma which is a non Hodgkin's lymphoma. There are various subtypes of ocular lymphoma so I don't know if these articles apply to your mom but they will help with your background knowledge.
