What are the ocular side effects of the medicine tamoxifen?

Hope this helps... I put the web site where I got the info fron just incase you wanna go look at it.. Good Luck!

GENERIC NAME: tamoxifen
BRAND NAME: Nolvadex
DRUG CLASS AND MECHANISM: Tamoxifen is an antiestrogen (blocks the effect of estrogen on tissue). The precise mechanism of its action is unknown, but one possible mechanism is that it binds and blocks estrogen receptors on the surface of cells, preventing estrogens from binding and activating the cell. It is used in patients for treating and preventing breast cancer. Controversy currently exists as to which breast cancer patients will benefit from this treatment.

PRESCRIPTION: yes

GENERIC AVAILABLE: no

PREPARATIONS: 10mg oral tablets.

STORAGE: Store in a dry place at 15-30°C (59-86°F).

PRESCRIBED FOR: Tamoxifen is used for the treatment of invasive breast cancer, the most common type of breast cancer, following surgery and/or radiation and for preventing invasive breast cancer in women at high risk for developing it. Tamoxifen also is used for the treatment of women following surgery and radiation for a less common type of breast cancer called ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS or intraductal carcinoma). Women who have had ductal carcinoma in situ are at high risk for developing invasive breast cancer at a later date, and tamoxifen prevents development of the invasive cancer in almost half of the women during the first five years of treatment. Occasionally, tamoxifen is used to stimulate ovulation.

DOSING: Tamoxifen should be taken at doses specifically directed by the physician. Currently, long term dosing is recommended (in excess of 2 years). Tamoxifen can be taken with food.

DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tamoxifen can cause abnormalities of liver tests and other blood tests, and patients taking it should keep appointments for blood work to monitor for these side effects. Patients should report any suspected side effects immediately, especially bleeding and yellowing of the skin.

SIDE EFFECTS: The most common side effects associated with tamoxifen are: hot flashes, weight gain, abnormal menstrual periods, and nausea.  (+ info)

If my husband has Ocular histoplasmosis syndrome should i get checked?

my husband was diagnosed with OHS does it mean i could have it also? is it contagious? the eye dr just told him he had it not what it is or if we should worry about myself and our children also having it.
----------

Histoplasmosis is a type of fungal infection which affects the back of the eye. Although it's not contagious between person to person, my advice would be to get checked if the infection is of recent onset. Histo is spread when the fungal spores are inhaled, usually via birds and other animals and is more common in the Ohio-Mississippi river valley. So if your husband was recently diagnosed, and you both have visited the same areas recently or been exposed to the same animals, it wouldn't hurt to have a dilated eye exam from your optometrist. But as far as "catching" it from him, there's no need to worry.  (+ info)

What is the cause of ocular migraine?

Could it be caused by the use of NSAIDs?
How about tizanidine?
----------

We are unsure of the exact cause of ocular migraines. They can occur with or without a headache. I do not know of any direct correlation between NSAIDs or any other medication use with ocular migraines.  (+ info)

how long does it take for symptoms of ocular herpes to appear?

Fingered my girlfriend and after sex and foreplay, I accidentally started washing my hands and face with soap and water afterwards.. she says she doesnt have herpes and i dont see any signs of herpes on her vagina...just thinking what if?? and if i did have it..how long will it take to show signs...
----------

It can take months to show symptoms. Honestly though, I wouldn't worry about getting ocular herpes. If there were no signs of an out break then you would be safe. Herpes is less contagious if there are no signs of an out break. Your eyes would have to come into contact with an active out break. Herpes doesn't last for more then seconds when it's away from the body. Also washing your hands would kill the virus.  (+ info)
