what should I expect when getting an ocular CT?

Dr has no idea why I'm seeing glare, lights blur or create starbursts both day and night... so I'll be getting an OCT. He said I don't have glaucoma or cataracts and that's a good sign...What kinds of eye problems require oct scans? What should I expect when getting it?
----------

First off, OCT doesn't stand for ocular CT, but that's an interesting way of looking at it. (It's 'optical coherence tomography', which is a fancy type of picture.)
You'll probably be getting the dilating eyedrops again, but other than that, you should expect an experience much like any other photo... you get put in front of a camera, told where to look, and you stay still for a minute. No pain, nothing touches the eye, nothing weird like that. Lots of people see a starburst kind of thing while the photo takes; that's normal.
An OCT is, like I said, a fancy picture that basically takes a cross-sectional or 3d image of the back of the eye. Typically we aim for a macular image, although you can look at other areas of the retina too. The most common things we'd use it for are macular swelling (as in diabetes or after surgery) or macular degeneration, central serous retinopathy, that sort of thing. These are usually fairly obvious on a normal eye exam, but if things are borderline/questionable, the OCT gives an extra detailed look. The other thing an OCT is really good for is ruling out health problems in the retina, which is why I suspect your doc wanted one done.
Good luck, don't be scared :)  (+ info)

Glaucoma- How to check the Intra ocular pressure ( IOP)at home?

I am a Glaucoma patient with 0.9 cupping of the right eye. My hospital is situated far away from my house. I believe we can measure the field loss using the home PC (Computer). I need ur help
----------

First I have heard of this.. I'm a glaucoma sufferer myself so I'd be interested in replies.

I think you are mixing up two different measurements here.

I'm guessing that you can only use your home PC for measuring the peripheral vision. You must have to stare at the screen and see how many dots you can see round the edge or something. It's probably something pretty basic like that.

Intraoccular pressures are a much more important measurement and I'd be surprised if you could obtain THESE using a home pc. But like I said I'd be interested to see other replies.

Keep taking the drops now!!  (+ info)

I'm considering getting an ocular implant. Where can I have this done?

I'm not sure if a tattoo parlor offers this service. Even if they do, I'd feel safer having a doctor do it. Are there doctors in the midwest who perform this procedure?

Is this what you mean?

If it is I suggest you don't do it.

can some one tell me if ocular mytttathenia is classed as a disability?

I have been dignosed with optical myathenia I was wondering if this is clased as a disability as i dont have any information on this illness
----------

My understanding is that it would depend on the degree and severity of your symptoms and you would probably have to go before a medical panel for assessment. Some patients with Occular Myasthenia can spontaneously go into remission for a number of years. From the website below: 'Ocular MG is characterised by the abrupt or insidious onset of weakness or fatigueability of one or both lids or the eye muscles. If the lid is involved it droops, otherwise known as ptosis; with extra ocular muscle involvement the patient sees double looking in the direction of the weak muscle. For instance, they may see well in all directions except upward, which tells the examiner that one of the elevator muscles is weak......... The salient symptoms of Ocular MG: double vision and droopiness of one or both lids, are frequently influenced by environmental, emotional and physical factors. Bright sunlight, emotional stress, viral illness, surgery, menstruation, pregnancy, immunisations and other physical factors may all precipitate a change in the expression of Ocular MG, although not in a predictable direction. Spontaneous remissions can occur in any patient and sometimes persist for years.' The UK site below is worth a visit. I hope your condition improves - good luck.  (+ info)

Does any one here suffer from ocular migraines?

I have them about twice a year. I get this shimmery spot in my vision. It gets bigger after a few minutes until it finally disappears and then I get a bad headache. I am not sure if I should see a doctor about this or which doctor for that matter. A general practitioner or my eye doctor? Is there anything that can be used to prevent the migraines from coming back? I would appreciate any feedback form those who suffer from these and who have seen a doctor. Thanks!

My eyes are video displays, however, you should see a doc and have that checked out. tfw  (+ info)
