Is anorexia and anxiety disorders closely related?

I had an eating disorder a few years back and I thought u had gotten over it. I suffer from a lot of anxiety and recently I had a pretty bad panic attack... Im convinced that I have an anxiety disorder and I'm wondering if this could be related to my eating disorder? and how do i know for sure if I have an anxiety disorder ?
oh and i'm a girl by the way.
----------

Yes, other mental disorder often cause or contribute to eating disorders. Sometimes, difficulty dealing with emotions (such as stress and anxiety) is a big factor in the development of an eating disorder. An eating disorder allows a person another (harmful) way to cope with these feelings.
The only way to know for sure is to go to your doctor and get an official diagnosis, but here are some resources that might help you to determine if you have an anxiety disorder:
This website provides the DSM IV criteria (scroll down a little, and the criteria are listed): http://www.clevelandclinicmeded.com/medicalpubs/diseasemanagement/psychiatry/anxiety-disorder/
This is an anxiety screening quiz, which is an unofficial way to determine if you might have or show signs of an anxiety disorder: http://psychcentral.com/quizzes/anxiety.htm
This website has a self-test: http://www.adaa.org/public/selftest_gad.htm
i hope this helped, and congratulations on your eating disorder recovery, and i wish you the best of luck recovering from your anxiety disorder  (+ info)

Are psychologists a help or a hindrance with eating disorders and related issues?

After seeing a counselor/psychologist for almost a year, I don't know if I'm in a better place than I started, or worse off. My psychiatrist and I determined that my body grows tolerant of medications very quickly (all medications) and therefore I've been going from one anti-depressant to the next trying to find one that will work and keep working. Right now I'm not on any because I feel like it isn't worth it and I want to do this on my own.

But more than that, I have disordered eating patterns and almost zero self esteem. And I feel as though my therapist didn't really help. At all. I feel as though he could have kept talking and talking and it wasn't ever going to anywhere. It seems like this is something I have to do on my own, as impossible as it feels.

Has any else had similar experiences, where their therapist has made it worse, or not helped at all with an eating disorder and/or self-esteem issue?
----------

You cannot put all therapists into one basket. I think you need to seek out someone who specializes in eating disorders, after a year, there should have been more of a sense of control. Eating disorders are trying to fill a need. Ask yourself these questions (from a specialist in the field); What relief or reward are you getting by eating/not eating? Why?

Don't hang the success on your therapist too, YOU need to do the work, they provide the tools for you and guide you when you get off course.

There are also institutes that specialize in eating disorders too, if you have the money to plunk down there.

Good luck, take care and be well.  (+ info)

Why can`t plastic Surgery be an option used in the cases of disorders related to lack of self confidence?

We have heard of cases where suicide attempts or cases of suicide have taken place because of self hate. This comes as a result of having features that one hates but on talking people tend to take it as a psycological problem other than a physical one.Plastic surgery can be used to treat this especially here in Africa where we really need it.Not for the few rich who use it as a beauty factor.lt could really help.
----------

Because the grass only looks greener from a distance. Goodlooking have-nots are still have-nots. That money can be better spend than on expensive surficial surgery.  (+ info)
