Osteogenesis Imperfecta?

I heard that osteogenesis imperfecta can affect the body's ability to metabolize sugar. Is there any truth to this, and if so, is this problem specific to a certain type?
----------

Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI), also known as brittle-bone disease, is a genetic (inherited) disorder characterized by bones that break easily without a specific cause. There are VI types of this disease. The collagen from an osteogenesis imperfecta patient has a 7–9% deficiency in the abundant amino acids and an excess of amino acids with lipophilic side chains, compared with collagen from normal bone, which suggested that up to 10% of other protein material could be present in osteogenesis imperfecta. OI is caused by a genetic defect that affects the body's production of collagen. Collagen is the major protein of the body's connective tissue and can be likened to the framework around which a building is constructed. In OI, a person has either too little collagen or a poorer quality of collagen, leading to weak bones that break easily. The only caveat on sugar is not the poor absorbtion but the fact that refined sugars should be avoided because diets high in sugar increase the loss of calcium in the urine.

Is Osteogenesis Imperfecta a type of dwafism?

My girlfriend has Osteogenesis Imperfecta and is 4' 4" tall,as you can imagine she is often referred to as a "midget" and other unkind things. So just to help clear this up,I was wondering if she could be concidered a dwarf based on the Osteogenesis Imperfecta, or perhaps her size?
I have tried looking this up online, but there is so much information on Dwarfism and Osteogenesis Imperfecta, that after hours of paging through information that had little or nothing to do with what I was looking for I became a little frustrated with all and decided I needed help looking this up.
Any info you could provide that may help me clear this up would be appreciated very much.
Thank you,
Ben P.

Can broken bones cause pain or brittle bones Osteogenesis Imperfecta) cause pain?

I have this and get pain from it is that normal
Broken bones in the sense broken but healed
----------

I to have OI. Ok do you mean the fractures have healed yet you have pain? Let me guess you ache before it rains and such?

Artheritis with OI tend to set in fractured areas often, like I fractured my pelvis as a child and now have sever artheritis in one of my hips. Which is what causes chronic pain even when no fractures, with OI. If you have more questions please feel free to mail me at [email protected]  (+ info)

Does anyone know if Osteogenesis Imperfecta affects more than just bone structure?

It does:
1: Blue sclera of the eyes
2: Joint laxity
3: 70% have earing impearment (cause of the 3 bones in the ears)
4: Strong correlation with dentinogenesis imperfecta, which affect the teeth (form, color, mineralization, pulp size). Not all patients have it, but a lot of patients with osteo... will also have odonto.... The teeth are more brittle, grind easily
