Can Osteoporosis and very small body affect your period?

I'm 25 and I have osteoporosis and always had irregular period since I got it when I was 15. I never had sex either. I do have small body frame and I was told having not a lot of body fat affects it? I do have a good diet, I don't exercise a lot. I don't have any out of the ordinary symptoms as I tried to look for different problems I could have. It may be possible an ovary doesn't work. I may only get it every 2-3 months.

What medications are available for Osteoporosis?

Just had my hip go out and have been told it is from Osteoporosis. I drink heaps of milk and get alot of sun everyday. I am a 41 yo male. Is it true that this is more common in men than women?
----------

Major drug therapies now exist for treating osteoporosis.

There are two types of drugs used to treat osteoporosis:

- Antiresorptive Drugs. Antiresorptives include bisphosphonates, hormone replacement therapy, SERMs, and calcitonin. Bisphosphonates are the standard drugs used for osteoporosis. These drugs block resorption (bone break down) and so slow the rate of bone remodeling, but they cannot rebuild bone. In fact, because resorption and reformation occur naturally as a continuous process, blocking resorption may eventually also reduce bone formation.

- Anabolic, or Bone-Forming, Drugs. Drugs that rebuild bone are known as anabolics. The primary anabolic drug is low-dose parathyroid hormone (PTH), which is administered as injections. It is proving to be very effective in restoring bone and preventing fractions. PTH is still relatively new, and long-term effects are still unknown. Fluoride is another bone-building drug, but it has limitations and is not commonly used.

Both types of drugs are effective in preventing bone loss and fractures, although they vary in their effectiveness and safety.-

Is there a medicine similar to Boniva, which is for Osteoporosis, that is available in the market in China?

If there are none, can anyone make a suggestion as to affective osteoporosis medicine that might be found in Asia? This could be life-saving! Pease, any suggestions will be taken into consideration. Thank you.
----------

The prescription medications most similar to Boniva in the U.S. are Fosamax (alendronate) and Actonel (risendronate) these should be easer to find than Boniva, and should be available in China (if Boniva is). Beware of fakes in China, however... there is a big market for conterfeit meds and China and India are common countries of origin. If you have no luck finding them, there are other options- such as Fortical (calcitonin nasal spray) and estrogens. Keep in mind the brand names are probably different in other countries, so go by the generic name (in parenthesis).  (+ info)

Is a diet of soy beans products good for osteoporosis patient or is soy beans products makes worst for them?

Is a diet of soy beans products good for osteoporosis patient or is soy beans products makes worst for them?

im really confuse because soy beans products especially Tofu is also high in phytates, an organic acids which blocks the uptake of calcium, magnesium, iron, and especially zinc and contributes to widespread mineral deficiencies.

Hence, Vegetarians - especially vegetarian children - who eat tofu and drink soy milk as substitutes for meat and dairy products are Infact at very high risk of loss of bone mass and severe mineral deficiencies.

Why does health professionals claim that soy bean is high is good for osteoporosis patient when in fact it has high in "Phytates" which blocks the uptake of calcium and contributes to loss of bone mass?

im really confuse. Please clarify this for me.

please show your source of information.

thanks :)
----------

Any one who is into soy products instead of dairy products needs to take a zinc supplement every day and also a calcium supplement. To improve your iron absorption you could take some extra vitamin C. The magnesium content in soy products is quite high (something like 300 mg per 100 gm of soy product), so even if only 50% of that is absorbed you will still get enough magnesium.

If you don't take any extra calcium to avoid a possible or even likely calcium deficiency due to the phytic acid and phytates in soy products then your osteoporosis will get worse.

So clearly, soy products are no good for osteoporosis patients.  (+ info)

Is the Viridian Echinacea Root & Leaf extract safe for diabetes and osteoporosis?

I want to give my father the Viridian Echinacea Root & Leaf extract, but im not sure whether it's okay for him. He has diabetes and osteoporosis, and you must always be careful with these things. Is it safe for him?
----------

Echinacea is a natural remedy for battling cold and flu. It's an herbal treatment to stimulate immune function. I think it would be fine to give it to your father if he's getting sick. It doesn't have very many side effects whereas an antibiotic would have a lot of potential side effects. Echinacea is a "special occasion herb". I know some people who take it regularly as a supplement, but it is really most effective when you take it at the first sign of a cold (you know....when you get that little tickle in the back of your throat). If your father has any allergies, then you should be careful administering herbal treatments to him as this could cause a reaction. Also, anyone with Leukemia, MS, Tuberculosis, AIDS, Lupus, or any auto-immune disease should not take Echinacea. For safety purposes, I would consult an herbalist rather than a regular MD. Most doctors/pharmacists know very little about an herb like Echinacea as they only specialize in prescribing antibiotics. They pretty much go along with the FDA's false propaganda - that Echinacea does not have any medicinal benefits.  (+ info)

Preventing osteoporosis: Does that mean I should gradually exercise more?

I've been told that I am at a high risk of developing osteoporosis because I'm female, Asian, and I have a small body frame.

Even though I'm a young wushu athlete who consumes a fair amount of calcium daily, I'm still worried about developing osteoporosis when I get old. Does this mean as I get older, I should be exercising more than I do now?
----------

There are many things you can do

herbs,diet,exercise,getting sunlight (vitamin D/Hormone levels)

Qigong is also very beneficial. I remember this lady who had OP so bad that she had to give up all her favorite sports. But, after a year of Qigong under a highly skilled master, she had a complete turn around.

Also consider "Calcium" (especially coral calcium). Calcium alkalizes the body. Disease thrives in an acidic enviroment. Vitamin D is also crucial. Thats why people who live closer to the equator have less instances of cancer including skin cancer!!! Vitamin D is getting HUGE press right now.

But, i highly reccomend you go on youtube and type "The calcium factor" and Bob Barefoots lecture on Calcium and Vit D and how it can cure many things. The RDA for Calcium goes up every 10 years! and peopel with higher levels of calcium are less prone to disease. Coincedence?

Also, not all calcium is created equal. Calcium carbonate is hard to absorb. Then you have Calcium bicarbonate and Citrate which are a little better. But, coral calcium is the best! Ever since i started taking it, i have noticed a signifigant improvement in my energy and chronic pain.

Also, there is a multitude of "anti-osteoperitic" foods and herbs

And of course exercise and drinking water. But, dont over use your joints. Exercise is good, but dont over-exert. Trust me!!!

Good luck, and im sure you will be fine.

Asians unite!!!!

(wait...im not asian)

*quietly steps away, and then sprints off*

PS- If you ever do run into any problems, i highly reccomend the products on this page, i have used them with success.Solomons seal is a remarkable herb.

Is there anyone who is in their twenties that has osteoporosis?

I'm 25 and have osteoporosis. I would like to talk to anyone my age experienceing the same thing.
----------

Yes, I have osteoporosis. I am 23. Most of the causes of osteoporosis in young people is a result of bone and/ or endocrine disease. I have an endocrine disease that caused my osteoporosis. It is very scary and often makes me feel a lot older than I am. I have a great doctor, and great hope in the future because of the constantly improving osteoporosis medication. Because of the rarity of osteoporosis in people under the age of 60, try and consult with the best endocrine and bone centers in the U.S. the quality of my life has improved significantly by seeking help from the best specialists in the U.S. I go to Massachuttes General Hospital in Boston. The doctors are great. I wish you the best luck in the world.  (+ info)
