Can abdominal pain be considered intractable pain?

If the abdominal pain is acute and chronic over a long period of time it can be considered intractable abdominal pain - that is pain that is extremely hard to manage. For example, people suffering from pancreatic cancer, or metastatic colon cancer, can experience intractable abdominal pain. Sometimes it is necessary for these patients to be hospitalized in order to manage their intractable pain and to reach a sustained improvement in their pain control and ability to function. Interventional Pain Therapy is often required for Intractable Abdominal Cancer Pain.  (+ info)

RSD pain is intractable?

I have had RSD for 9 months. I have it both in my right hand and wrist, and my entire left arm. My left shoulder kept becoming disloc or has workeated, and now I have worn a sling for 8 months. My entire left arm is dead but of course filled with intense pain. It will never be able to work again. Enough whining. I need someone who has experienced this or has worked with this to give me some advice or hope. Thanks all in advance.

What types of treatments have you tried? Do you have a pain management doctor? There are many types of treatments out there to help patients get their lives back. I have had RSD/CRPS for two and a half years and after undergoing an experimental treatment I'm pain free after many failed treatments and suffering so much pain- there is still hope! Have you tried anything like sympathetic blocks, physical therapy, spinal cord stimulators, IV infusions, epidural catheters or any other types of treatments? Your pain management doctor should be able to help you find the treatment that is best for you, and can hopefully put your RSD into remission. the most common way to rate pain is a scale of 1 -10 with 1 being very minute allmost non existent and 10 being the most unbearable and incapacitating pain a person should have to live through. Normally people who have chronic pain are referred to a pain management clinic to learn non narcotic ways to cope massage heat exercise therapy etc.Acute pain is often treated with narcotics and then further testing is needed to find the source. At times an anti anxiety agent may also be given to allow the narcotic to work more effective. If a person is nonverbal we watch for body language ie. facial grimacing , wringing of hands, abnormal repetiveness, touching or rubbing the area, furrowing of the brow etc.  (+ info)

How long does ovulation pain last and what can I do to relieve the pain?

I have a bad pain in my lower right abdomen which I'm presuming is ovulation pain. I'm supposed to be going to my friends birthday party in about 4 hours and if my pains carry on like this I'm not going to be able to go, I can hardly stand up straight. How can I relieve the pain?
----------

About one in five women experience pain and discomfort during ovulation. The duration of the pain varies from one woman to the next, but ranges from a few minutes to 48 hours. In most cases, ovulation pain doesn’t mean that anything is wrong.

However, severe pain may sometimes be symptomatic of gynaecological conditions including endometriosis, which was the cause for painful ovulation and periods I experienced for nearly a year before I decided to seek help from my doctor and gynaecologist.

I would recommend that you consult with your doctor/gynaecologist if your ovulation pain lasts longer than three days or is associated with other unusual menstrual symptoms, such as heavy bleeding.

Good luck :)  (+ info)
