I just got periarthritis on my left lower part of the shoulder. Can anyone tell me advice to get over it fast?

It hurts if I move it and I need to work and carry things and travel. I know about applying heat as this might also happen from a "cold" muscle. I do not want to take pain killers or have a cortisone shot.
Is there anything else I can do?
When are you supposed to start exercising it since it just started yesterday and it is an inflamation, I do not understand if I should rest it or do the exercises starting now?

I would recommend resting it for now and then checking with your doctor for further instructions as to what they want you to do next.  (+ info)

Any help on coping with periarthritis?

I have recently been diagnosed with periarthritis on my right shoulder and feel pain between my right shoulder & elbow. I was presribed common painkillers in the morning and night and a few simple exercises. I feel extreme pain when I stretch my hand to grab a falling object. Any help from people having a similar problem. I am 48 , diabetic with fair control

You need to insist on treatment. The med profession will try their standard treatments. If they work, great, if not insist that they change now. Don't settle for pain. Try a second opinion to be sure the first is right and they are doing the right things.pp  (+ info)

why periarthritis shoulder is more common in diabetic patient?

It seems that the medical community aren't entirely sure as to why this is the case, but is known that diabetics are more likely to suffer than your average member of the community.

Although periarthritis shoulder sufferers (also known as simply periarthritis, adhesive capsulitis, frozen shoulder, amongst other names) tend to have the condition for a limited amount of time ... sometimes lasting only a few months, though it can last for 3 or 4 years, it can be very painful and quite debilitating. (I speak from experience on this point. Mine lasted for about 2 or so years, and I had several NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) injections before I received shoulder manipulation under general anaesthetic. Even then it took several months before mobility started to improve, and it's never returned to the mobility that I once had.)

You may find the following websites of interest. (The first video is particularly enlightening.)

I wish you the very best of luck in coming to terms with, and improving, if you should suffer with the condition.  (+ info)

Get the tests run. Medical professionals are the worst at seeking medical attention because they feel they can treat themselves, or know what to do when a crisis arrives. Suck up your pride and do what it takes to find out what's wrong.  (+ info)

Resting the arm, and time, and later walking up the wall with your fingers and raising the arm at shoulder height exercises is what the Drs and physical therapists usually recommend.
But I need a fast cure now..

I'm sorry, but there's no 'fast cure' for this. Exercise the muscles, get physical therapy and apply heatpacks...that's all you can do.

PS. Don't do cortisone shot. It's usually not even worth it as it doesn't do much and can cause delay in healing. I did nothing for me except cause more pain.  (+ info)
