Anyone know anything Pityriasis Rubra Pilaris?

I've been diagnosed with it but can't afford the treatment. Wondering if anyone knows of any OTC or home remedies. It's bad and I'm miserable. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have access to Borage (the herb) leaves, make a strong tea of it and apply the tea to the affected area as a compress, or dab it on with a bit of cotton

It slows down the skin cell multiplication - not as good as the prescription stuff, but better than nothing.  (+ info)

http://www.dermatlas.org/derm/result.cfm?Diagnosis=-1082072399

I checked out webmd as well and thought the webmd site said it all. There is muchos info there! Did you find this info when you visited the website? It's about 10 pages!

Good luck! Hope you find what you are looking for!  (+ info)

Has anyone heard of pityriasis rubra pilaris? I've been diagnosed with it but can't afford treatment.

Looking for over-the-counter or homeopathic suggestions. I'm miserable. It's quite severe. Any help would be so appreciated.

Not many options but here is a link with some info - they suggest emollients to soften the skin. I would suggest finding something mild to wash with and try out different oils and even vasaline to stay moisturized.  (+ info)

Is there any good treatment for Keratosis pilaris rubra faceii?

Which is keratosis pilaris with red cheeks.. i've had it forever and its just plain ugly. i've heard somehere of a laser treatment for the skin of the cheeks but to me anything with a laser and skin sounds like it can go terribly wrong.

Chris. I'm sorry but there is no cure for Keratosis pilaris.

Though it may improve with age and even disappear completely in adulthood; however, some will show signs of keratosis pilaris for life.

Treatments are largely symptomatic and must be repeated. Regardless, exfoliation, intensive moisturizing cremes, lac-hydrin, and medicated lotions containing alpha hydroxy acids or urea may be used to temporarily improve the appearance and texture of affected skin.

Scratching and picking at KP bumps causes them to redden (if they do not already appear red), and in many cases will cause bleeding. Excessive picking can lead to scarring.

Wearing clothing that is looser around the affected areas can also help reduce the marks, as constant chafing from clothing (such as tight fitting jeans) is similar to repeatedly scratching the bumps.

Many KP bumps contain an ingrown hair that has coiled. This is a result of the ketanized skin "capping off" the hair follicle, preventing the hair from exiting. Instead, the hair grows inside the follicle, often encapsulated, and can be removed if the bump is picked or squeezed (which can lead to scarring).  (+ info)

Anyone suffer from pityriasis rubra polaris or psorioris?

Sorry if I've spelt either term wrong! My husband has this condition and it really causing him problems - he can't stop itching. He's had it since he was 16 and at that time, he couldn't go to work for over 6 months because this scaly reddish skin was covering his whole body and itching like mad - very uncomfortable. However, it disappeared but is returning. He is now 26 and has big patches of it all over his body and it seems to be joining together. The doctor has prescribed him elecon crem but that burns his skin and he has lost faith in doctors. Does any body know what might soothe the pain and maybe stop him itching? Any sensible suggestions will be greatly appreciated - thanks

Hi, I had psoriasis for many years and tried numerous treatments to no avail until the champori cream and spray: it's natural herbal remedy and it cleared my plaque psor. in just under 3 weeks! Your husband should try it; if it doesn't work - it's free (money-back policy).
Best,

Treatment for keratosis pilaris rubra faceii?

is there any?
----------

There's lot's of things that can reduce the symptoms but I can't find anything that actually says: pop this pill and away she goes'. The links below are to forums with people giving information on what products they use and some other useful information. Best bet would be to see a (skin) doctor and have them diagnose and make recommendations. I know this would be hard for you to do without your folks' support so have a bit of a read of this lot and see what you make of it.  (+ info)

Any advise about curing Pilaris Keratosis Rubra?

have them for so long. Since elementary school. I just wanna make the gone!
what should i do? what treatment?
the rubra part just means reddish lesions.
cause i have that red spot like tiny acne on the arm.
----------

I don't know about the "rubra" part, but I have pilaris keratosis. I loathe the condition, but countless dermatologists say it's hereditary, and there's no sure fire cure. However, you can lessen its bumpy appearance by using a gentle exfoliant and a moisturizer loaded w/lactic acid...try Lac-hydrin or Derm-A-Doctor's KP Duty. The former can be found at Costco (and once I found it at Wal-Mart). The latter can be found at Sephora and Nordstrom.  (+ info)

keratosis pilaris rubra faceii?

i got diagnosed with this and i was wonderin if anyone else has or had it?

the derm. gave me retin-a, does that work?

i have mine on my cheeks so has anyone had that same thing? did it go away? any answers are good.
----------

You may wish to know that quite a large percentage of the female population (some 50%), and a lesser percentage of males, also suffers from keratosis pilaris (Caused by an excess of the natural hormone keratin in the skin.), so it isn't something you should worry about unduly. It is much more common among teenagers than adults.

Retin-A is certainly one of the most effective treatments for the symptoms of keratosis, in your case the red marks on the skin. Keratosis pilaris cannot be 'cured' but very often disappears by itself as you get older.   (+ info)

Keratosis Pilaris Rubra Faceii?

I have keratosis pilaris just about all over my body. Dots all over apart from face which is like rashes. I waited 6 months to see a dermotologist to find out there wasn't a cure. But there must be some way to reduce the redness of face (which is the part i'm most embarrased about)?
----------

There are a couple of things that would benefit you: one is to use a TIM product to help reduce the redness and inflammation associated with KP; the other is to have a few sessions of IPL therapy. Talk to your dermatologist again about these.  (+ info)

Oh my God! I think I have Keratosis pilaris rubra faceii -- finally an answer!?

Hi!!! Today I went to the doctors for a sinus infection, and it just so happens that my regular doctor was out, so I had to see a new one. While she was listening to my lungs, she saw that I had keratosis pilaris on my arms (and a pretty severe case too), and gave me some stuff for it. (I also have it on my legs and hips.) I have been to a million doctors before (even derms) for unrelated things, and no one ever mentioned it, so I just kind of ignored it (my mother has it too). WELL, for the past few months, I've been getting (what I thought were) pimples on my cheeks -- only my cheeks, never anywhere else. I've never had acne, and I'm past the "acne-age" too. Anyway, when I started getting these "pimples" (they really just looked like flesh colored bumps, never red or a white head or anything like that), I tried to pop them, and what happened was a tiny clear ball popped out, never any puss, and that was the end of it. I popped like 5 of these per week. BUT, since I've been..
... getting these, my cheeks get red and burn like you wouldn't believe -- only the cheeks, never anywhere else. No doctor has been able to tell me what it is, but today while I was looking at keratosis pilaris online (after my new diagnosis of the bumps on my arms), I came across something: Keratosis pilaris rubra faceii! Could that be what i have? If you do a search on a search engine, you'll find pictures of a red, inflamed face. JUST LIKE WHAT MINE LOOKS LIKE!!! THank you for any help or if anyone knows something about this condition!!!

Lac hydrin 12% lotion is a common treatment for this problem, there is also a new cream out called Umecta 40 and we are seeing excellent results with it for K.P.  (+ info)
