What is the best home remedies for pneumonia ?

I have pneumonia and cannot afford a doctor or hospital visit to the ER,
I'm hoping to find some home remedies that wil help with this.
Thanks for any help or advice.
----------

Pneumonia is a diagnosis that only a physician can establish. If you saw one to learn your problem then that same guy should treat you without an extra visit.

If you didn't get diagnosed by a doctor then you honestly can not know that you even have pneumonia.

But start with essentials: persisting fever with a bad (usually phlegm) cough.

Rest, hydrate, Tylenol, humid inhalations, and expectorants like plain Robitussin or Mucinex.

How is a chest cold different from pneumonia?

The last two weeks I have been really sick. Fever, Chills, headaches, extreme tiredness, coughing. Now that has all gone away and left me with a cold feeling in my chest, shortness of breath, discomfort in my lungs. I really dislike going to doctors and being put on any medications. Though I am feeling like I may be going to emergency room in the morning. Anyone else have or had anything like this ? I am kind of guessing it is a Pneumonia.
----------

chest colds coulod be due to many reasons like cold whether(obvious), throat infections, or just aggravations of flu. whereas pneumonia is an advanced stage. in pneumonia the lungs are filled with water, liquid, it could even be fatal if not treated properly and promptly.  (+ info)

What is it like to die of pneumonia in an 94 yr old dementia patient ?

My dad is in dementia and lives far away and he has pneumonia and they have him in the hospital. I know a lot of times frail people like him die and I expect that, but what is it like to die from pneumonia, ? Is it painful ??? do they keep them sedated ?? What is it like ? He has smoked for 80 years and I really don't see him coming home, but since I can't be there because I am sick, chronic, what is death to pneumonia like in elderly frail people. ?
----------

Don't worry. They'll keep him comfortable and sedated. He won't suffer. My Mom was at the point where she needed a respirator to breathe and she had made it clear that she did not want to live that way. We had them remove it, but first asked the doctors straight up if this was going to cause her a lot of distress. They said no and assured us that she was heavily sedated and wouldn't suffer. We were there when they removed her from the respirator and it was just like she was going to sleep.

I'm sorry about your Dad, but rest assured the doctors have the means and will do everything possible to keep him comfortable. Best of luck to you.  (+ info)

how can you tell the difference between pneumonia and a cold flu and cough?

how long does it take to progress into something serious. like say you get sick start coughing and think you are sick then you make an appointment to see a doctor in a week. can the pneumonia spread super fast and kill you? i mean if you are elderly and you are trying to see a doctor as fast as you can but say you cant get in for a week. or you dont think it is serious... until it is very developed. can it develop in a week?
----------

Pneumonia is the lung's reaction to a bacterial or viral infection in the lungs, and it can develop as quick as a day. If you feel like you have something worse than a cold, then instead of waiting for a Doctor go to an ER or better yet go to a walk-in clinic and let them know of your symptoms. They will do a chest x-ray to determine if you have pneumonia. Signs of pneumonia include a "wet" chest, coughing up sputum that is green or yellow colored and/or foul smelling, shortness of breath, and possible fever. Most common sign is shortness of breath.  (+ info)

After treatment for interstitial cystitis, will my bladder capacity go back to normal?

I am 25yrs old and I was just diagnosed with interstitial cystitis. The doctor said I only have to take medication for a few months and I should be fine.
----------

I really can't speak for what your situation will be: this diagnosis can mean different things for different people.

My mom (mid-50s) has had this and it has not been the best. She's had surgeries and medication, but still has big issues with her bladder capacity. I also talked with a woman whose daughter had it, and said it was a colostomy bag. So I doubt your doctor is correct, but maybe it's a newer medication? If it works, please email me and I'll let my mom know about it. :)

How can you tell if you have progressive scoliosis?

Does this condition tend to result in considerable deformities as you age? If it is not progressive, will this still result in deformities later on in life? Can it become progressive?

How dangerous is the surgery to correct scoliosis? I have heard it described as risky due to the fact that it involves the spine.
----------

Most scoliosis cases are progressive.. it is good to catch it in an early stage and try to correct it whether it's exercises, back brace, or surgery. My scoliosis was a "S" curve, about 55 degrees each curve, the doctors told me if i didn't have the surgery, it would keep getting so bad my organs would be crushed and I wouldn't make it past 30. (I was 17 at the time) I had the back surgery, and yes it is very dangerous. It is one of the most invasive surgeries, and yes they are fusing the vertebrae that are protecting the spinal cord. It could result in paralysis. It is very important to know your doctor, and their history. I had an amazing doctor, and I didn't have any complications with my surgery. Good luck! :)  (+ info)

What's the difference between viral and bacterial pneumonia?

I can't believe I'm this old and still can't seem to get this right. My mother-in-law (she's 80 and lives with us) is in the hospital with pneumonia, apparently developing it rather quickly. She has had several trips to the ER about her back (sciatica) recently, and someone said she could have gotten it there.

What I can't seem to get through my head is which one is contagious ... it's viral, right? I don't know which one she has yet (hubby finding out now), but if it's viral then my next question is going to be what should I do to protect my kids and me, who are home with her all day lol.
----------

The most common way you catch pneumonia bacterial or viral is to breathe infected air droplets from someone who has pneumonia. Another cause is an improperly cleaned air conditioner. Yet another source of infection in your lungs is spread by an infection from somewhere else in your body, such as your kidney. Your risk of catching pneumonia is determined by the specific bacteria, virus, or fungus, the number of organisms you inhale, and your body's ability to fight infections.

Germs are spread both by aerosolized droplets that you breathe in (such as from a sneeze), and through body fluids left on surfaces like counter tops and door handles. If you avoid people who are coughing or sneezing, and wash your hands frequently, you can reduce your chances of catching a virus.

I would suggest keeping everything sprayed with a antibacterial agent of some sort, but make sure it does not hurt your mother-in-law. Cleaning everything with Pine Sol, strict hand washing, and make sure your mother in law covers her mouth when coughing or sneezing. You could also buy face masks and gloves for you and your children until she is no longer contagious. I would ask the doctor also how long your mother in law will be contagious

Hope this helps.  (+ info)
