What is the best pill to take if you have polycystic ovary syndrome or any other treatments?

I am 21 and have had polycystic ovary syndrome for awhile now .
being on yasmin and now have change to norimin and now trying a Progesterone cream to regulate my periods but nothing has worked as yet and making my body gain weight and I hardly eat
please help?
----------

I have PCOS and I have an IUD, Mirena to be specific. I haven't have a period in 3 years, which helps with my symptoms. Maybe a pill like seasonale where you get a period 4 times a year. Are you on metformin? That can help deal with the weight issues. I suggest seeing an endocrinologist for your PCOS because they are generally more knowledgeable than a GP or OBGYN.  (+ info)

Has anyone with Polycystic ovary syndrome had a symptom of dizziness?

I have Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and i been having bad dizziness(like 24/7) and i was wondering if PCOS could be causing that?

What are PCOS's symptoms?
----------

I did suffer dizziness when I was on for the first 2/3 days, fainted a couple of times but it didn't really have an effect on my daily life.
It could also be due to your diet - are you eating enough & are you drinking plenty of water, especially if you're active a lot & lose weight through sweating during exercise.

Dizziness isn't really a common symptom, like hair growth or obesity is, but a lot of women do suffer with feeling dizzy.

I have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome how can I lose weight?

I am 27 years old and fat! I want to lose weight but I don't know where to begin. What should I be eating? How much should I work out? Does anyone else have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome? I heard if you have this it's harder to lose the weight. Thanks so much for your help!
I also wanted to add that I am taking Yasmin birth control but I have not had a period in about six months.
----------

My doctor told me that when I made the choice to switch from birth control pills to Metformin that I would probably lose weight. However, if you're trying to prevent conception you'll need to stay on the BC pills. One other way I've seen work is a low GI diet. There are several great books on this. Good luck.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, How does it affect your life?

I was just told last week that I have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. I read online all the symptoms, risks, bla bla bla..

But I want to hear from a real person.

Do you have it? Do you know someone who does?
How has it affected your life?
I apparently have had it for 5 years and never did anything to help it out.
They found 3 - 10 centimeter cysts.. But they don't hurt.. The dr was surprised that I never complained before.
----------

I have it. Have had it for 2 years now. The symptoms suck. You gain weight you can get facial hair, you get really bad acne and dark spots all over your body. You dont get your periods and it makes it hard to have kids. It can lead to high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes. And you can get anxiety attacks and depression

But I am fortunate enough to be able to control it the way I do. I have a very strict diet and exercise routine. I eat foods that would probably make people gag. LOL. I do tons of research and practice alternative natural treatments. So I dont really have any of these symptoms.

But if you do get them, I heard that laser treatment and this face cream, tri-luma (i think thats what its called), treats the spots and unwanted hair.

The best option for you, is to make sure you eat a very strict diet and keep the weight off. Getting on a birth control will help you before it gets worse. I take them and it really balances every thing out.

If you need some tips or a list of foods that are good for people with pcos or even exercise routines let me know.

Just be active and dont give up. Some people give up before trying. And like I said some people have it much worse then what we may have it. Again let me know if you need any info or advice! :-)  (+ info)

What other disorders have the same symptoms as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome?

I'm being tested right now for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and other disorders. However, my doctor wouldn't tell me what these other disorders are. What other disorders have the same symptoms as PCOS?
----------

Women with polycystic ovary syndrome may have any of several signs of varying severity. Criteria for diagnosing the disorder include having at least two of the following indications:

*Irregular or no menstruation. This is the most common finding in PCOS. Irregular menstruation means having menstrual cycles that occur at intervals longer than 35 days or fewer than eight times a year. The condition may begin in adolescence with the onset of menstruation.
*Excess androgen. Elevated levels of male hormones may result in physical signs such as long, coarse hair on your face, chest, lower abdomen, back, upper arms or upper legs (hirsutism), acne and male-pattern baldness (alopecia). However, not all women who have polycystic ovary syndrome have physical signs of androgen excess.
*Enlarged ovaries with multiple cysts. A doctor may detect ovarian cysts by ultrasound. However, a woman may have ovaries with multiple cysts but still not have polycystic ovary syndrome. And a woman with PCOS may have ovaries that appear normal. You must also have abnormal menstrual cycles or excess androgen levels to be diagnosed with PCOS.

Several other disorders can cause signs and symptoms similar to those of polycystic ovary syndrome:
Hypothyroidism. In this condition, your body produces too little thyroid hormone, which can lead to an absence of menstruation (amenorrhea).
Hyperprolactinemia. This condition causes your pituitary gland to produce too much prolactin, a hormone that stimulates the production of breast milk and suppresses ovulation.
Certain tumors. Tumors of the ovary or adrenal gland can be responsible for excess androgen levels.
Doctors rule out the above conditions before diagnosing PCOS.
Many women with polycystic ovary syndrome are obese. The distribution of fat seems to affect the severity of symptoms. One study found that women who have central obesity — fat in the midsection or trunk of the body — have higher androgen, sugar and lipid levels than do women who have accumulated fat in their limbs.
Other possible conditions associated with polycystic ovary syndrome are:
Infertility
Acanthosis nigricans — darkened, velvety skin on the nape of your neck, armpits, inner thighs, vulva or under your breasts
Chronic pelvic pain  (+ info)

Can mood swings from Polycystic ovary syndrome be confused with bipolar disorder?

I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in November of 2008 and i have been on medication ever since. My moods are somewhat stable but not fully yet. I was recently diagnosed with Polycystic ovary syndrome and one of the symptoms of it are mood swings. Is it possible that my doctors misdiagnosed me as being bipolar but my mood swings are from PCOS?
----------

Yes, it is very possible. Does your dr. know you have been diagnosed with PCOS? I have been diagnosed with PCOS myself and my moods are constantly switching. On top of all the other symptoms of PCOS i'm miserable with menstural cramps even when I'm not on it..No wonder our moods are all over!!! Hope you feel better.  (+ info)

im just wondering what is polycystic ovary syndrome and is it dangerous?

im just wondering what is polycystic ovary syndrome and is it dangerous also could it effect my chances of having children when im older?
----------

I have PCOS and have had it since I was a teenager. For me, it's caused painful cysts on my ovaries that eventually led me to having a hysterectomy and to having my left ovary removed when I was just 29 (but I was able to have 3 children before that had to happen). For many women it not only causes painful cysts, but also causes hair growth in places you don't want it because of the additional testosterone in your system, excessive weight gain and for some, it makes it very difficult to get pregnant. Check out http://www.polycystic-ovarian-syndrome.net/. There's alot of useful information for women who have PCOS as well as ways to deal with it. Good luck!  (+ info)
