Can people be very shy and quiet because they have Post-traumatic stress disorder?

I am extremely guarded, shy, and quiet. I don't talk that much in classes where I don't know people, I but talk with my close friends. I suffered some psychological trauma in my life and I have post-traumatic stress disorder. I get really nervous in class when I think I might get called on to answer a question. Right now I have an air cast and I'm using crutches and I just hate how people always look at me.

Does anyone know the name of this condition from post traumatic stress disorder?

A girl at my school said she was raped when she was 7 and she has post traumatic stress disorder from it. She says that when people speak she sees the words above them and so she tries to just look them in the eye. She said that the words are different colors too. I have never heard of such a thing. It sounds surreal or like bull to me. But I don't know. Has anyone heard of this?
----------

Seeing things that aren't there is hallucinating and it is very serious. She may have schizophrenia or psychosis. She needs to see a psychiatrist to get a proper diagnosis.  (+ info)

You can say that you were a veteran soldier who participated in Afghanistan. And after seeing someone die a horrible death, you still have those reoccurring thoughts and images.  (+ info)

Can the cause of a giant cell tumor be post traumatic?

I recently had surgery on my right thumb for ligament repair from a slip and fall, there after I developed what doctors call- a giant cell tumor on that same right thumb finger. Could the growth of the tumor be post-traumatic?
thanks for answering my question. Is there any way I can prove that it is post traumatic?
----------

You have to wonder. Any trauma is followed by healing, which involves rapid cell division and involves the chance of mutations arising from the cell division, which could lead to cell disregulation and a tumor. Good luck on getting through this!  (+ info)

How does post traumatic stress disorder differ from acute stress discorded?

How does post traumatic stress disorder differ from acute stress discorded
----------

Hi Krystlin. The only difference between Acute Stress Disorder and PTSD is the length of time that symptoms have been experienced. If the symptoms have been present for less than 30 days, then criteria is not met for PTSD and the diagnosis is Acute Stress. After 30 days, PTSD is the correct diagnosis. The actual diagnostic criteria are essentially the same. All the best.  (+ info)

Is it possible to develop Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder from watching a graphic horror movie at a young age?

If a young child (around the age of 7-8) watches an extremly graphic, and distubring horror movie would it be possible for them to develop Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder?

What are your opinions on this, is it highly unlikley?
----------

Possibly the child could be so disturbed and frightened from the movie that they could develop some kind of disorder. But i think it would be more likely if it was some kind of experience they had. but i would think that movies could do the trick as well.. interesting question.. heres a star  (+ info)

what are the symptoms of post-traumatic stress?

A member of my family died tragically last week after falling off the balcony of the apartment that I rent to him and his younger brother.
i know, legally it is not my fault, as he was drunk, but I am feeling so overwhelmed and stressed.
is this post-traumatic or grief or both?
----------

One week is way too soon to diagnose post traumatic stress disorder. Anyone would feel like that under the situation.

Post traumatic stress disorder includes symptoms of dreaming about or having visions about the distressing event that go on for at least six months.

What you are describing sounds a lot more like Bereavement (grief). It may be a good idea to see a counselor--that is an awful lot to deal with.

One person said "depression"--it's not justified to diagnosis depression only two weeks after an event like that. Features of Bereavement look almost exactly like clinical depression--the way to tell the difference is how long it lasts.

I would say see if you feel exactly the same way after three or four months. If you don't think you are dealing with it any better after that long of a time, talk to a doctor.  (+ info)
