what can i do to calm down my tourettes syndrom?

i have a mild ... sometime i would twitch a lot ....other times id barely twitch...wat is causing the twitching a lot? what can i do to slow down the twitching or other tourettes things?
----------

Sometimes stress can increase tics in people with Tourettes. A stress free (as much as possible) environment is best. Really, there is not much that can be done. There are, however, medications that can lessen the severity of the tics, but not make them go away. Ask your Neurologist.  (+ info)

Does anyone know the signs of Cronic Fatigue Syndrom?

I have been experiencing fatigue and pain for quite some time now. I have gotten tests done and am not sick with the flu or cold. I have read some on Chronic Fatigue Syndrom but hear it is very hard to dianose. It would be much appreciated it someone could help me with this.
----------

Hi, Yes it's very difficult to diagnose. It's a diagnisis of elimination. I have M.E/Chronic fatigue, so I hope I can help...

It can also be called 'Post viral fatigue syndrome', so if you have been ill over the last few years it could be related to that... made your immune system weak. Then stress/depression/exhaustion can all bring it out. Also exposure to toxins. Food intolerances. Can be many contributing factors (im sure ive forgotten lots). It might help to write everything down... make a diary of your symptoms and possible causes.

The symptoms vary, there are so many and ppl often experience slightly different symptoms. For me the worst thing is not being able to sleep/restless sleep/can't wake up... constant tiredness. Then there's the pain in my limbs. Legs ache, can't walk far. Get very bad pains if I do too much. Arms ache, even washing my hair is hard work. Headaches/migraines. And lots of little aches and pains randomly. Then the brain 'fog', get confused easily, slur my words, forget what i'm saying... you learn to laugh at yourself! I feel like my 90 year old grandmother most days! ;)

It isn't treatable as such... there are many stories of different treatments that have worked for some and not for others. Generally you just have to change your lifestyle to pace yourself and build your strength up again slowly.

I have been re-diagnosed many times (cos I was a student when I got ill, so moved house every year, therefore moving doctors.) They always check for thyroid, as that has closely related symptoms and is treatable. And they're always giving me blood tests to check for all sorts of other things... vitamin deficiencies, anemia etc.

I have had M.E for 9 years and only just being medicated for the M.E, rather than depression. This has only happened as I got referred to a wonderful M.E specialist. I am now taking Melatonin for sleep problems, and Cymbalta/Duluxotine for pain and concentration. These have both helped me alot. Worth asking your doctor about, (if you have M.E that is?) and if they wont prescribe Melatonin (as it is expensive for them!) you can get it online cheap. I only take 1/2 tablet a night.

Here's some more info about M.E, symptoms, treatment etc. that will explain it better than me (also there are many very similar illnesses it could be but your doctor should be able to atleast narrow it down for you)...

So just try to take it easy for a while, eat well, drink lots of water, pace yourself and listen to your body. Good luck, and I hope you get it sorted x  (+ info)

how do I make the official diagnosis for asperger syndrom?

im gonna make an appointment with my regular doctor, does he make the official diagnosis to see if I have it or is it someone else.

Another thing if I do have AS(which im sure of) does it go on my record or something, so when I apply for a job does anyone have to know?
----------

Your doctor will most likely refer you to a specialist, for example a psychiatrist, who will confirm whether you have AS or not (or whether you have something else).

Your diagnosis goes on your medical record, but your medical record is private and you do not have to tell your employer about your diagnosis if you don't want to. Pretty much nobody will know about your diagnosis unless you choose to tell them about it.

However, if you require some accommodations at your job or in school due to AS, then you need to tell the employer/the school about your diagnosis and request the accommodations you need. Employers and schools have legal responsibilities to provide reasonable accommodations to people with disabilities. You need to be able to do the job though, with reasonable accommodations.

You do not have to mention your diagnosis during the application or interviewing process for jobs (and in many cases it is better not to, to prevent being discriminated against) and employers are not allowed to ask you whether you have disabilities or health problems. You can enclose your diagnosis after you are hired, or you can choose to not tell them at all.  (+ info)

What do you say to someone who's just found out their newborn has Down Syndrom?

....in the way of consolation. What do you think they need to hear?
OK , I see that I need to make an amendment.
THEY are the ones who seem to believe that they have a second hand child. I see the little one as a blessing, as my child has serious health problems too. But they are distraught and I don't know what to say to help relieve their worry. I just want to help.

Is it possible to confuse Cubital Tunnel Syndrome with Carpal Tunnel Syndrom?

I had surgery for CTS and I'm still having problems, I have a painful elbow still, is it possible that it was Cubital Tunnel Syndrome? Wouldn't the EMG show what it really was?
----------

There shouldn't be any way to confuse them...Carpal tunnel syndrome is a problem of the median nerve at the wrist and cubital tunnel syndrome is a problem of the ulnar nerve at the elbow. The EMG would clearly differentiate between the two.

That being said, someone might use the abbreviation "CTS" which usually is used only for carpal tunnel and confuse them after the fact.

Clinically they should be easily distinguished also...numbness affects the thumb/index/middle fingers for carpal tunnel and pinky finger for cubital tunnel. Pain for carpal tunnel is mainly hand and wrist though it can radiate up the forearm. Pain for cubital tunnel is often at the elbow as well as wrist hand.

Also, it could be BOTH CTS and ulnar neuropathy at the elbow (of which cubital tunnel is one type). Some are prone to multiple entrapments, esp. if you have diabetes, hypothyroidism, or a number of other conditions.

Problems in these nerves higher up, including the brachial plexus and neck remain possible too but those are less likely without pain there.  (+ info)

Is Down Syndrom a genetic or chromosomal mutation?

I am finding it VERY confusing. Two sites i have found have said different things.
----------

OMG i just relaised this is you again anna.
you know i answered your other question and then found this again and then relaised it was you.
MR Simpson answered this today anywayz but ill keep my answer here.
dont copy it word for word coz i just pasted my first paragraph in here!

The key difference between chromosomal and a gene mutation is: chromosomal mutations involve missing/added chromosomes or parts of chromosomes, whereas gene mutations involve a permanent change or error in the DNA for one or more genes in particular.
However, since Down Syndrome involves an entire extra chromosome number 21, it is classified as a chromosomal mutation.
