What is the earliest you have shown sighns of toxemia/ pre-eclampsia?

I am 14 weeks pregnant with #2. I have had mild ankle swelling for the past 3 weeks. On my last 2 doc visits, I had traces of protein in my urine. My last appt., my BP had gone up 16 points but was still within normal limits. My doc said we'll re-evaluate next appt. This seems terribly early- I did have toxemia with my first, but not until 37 weeks. Any advice?
----------

im 23 weeks and have all the signs... i also had toxemia with my first but i didnt get it till 41 weeks and they induced me... this time around they have me on meds going to the doctors every wednesday until they decide if they want to hospitalize me or not... quite scary i must say.. the advice they gave me is to stay off my feet as much as possible with elevating me feet and to watch the salt intake... good luck  (+ info)

Can a woman who is underweight still develop Pre-Eclampsia?

Can a woman who is underweight, and never had Pre-eclampsia with previous pregnancies suddenly develop Pre-Eclampsia?
Monique- that is incorrect. PE and toxemia are the same things.

I had it at 34 weeks, and had to have a c-section at that point because it was severe PE. I was a little overweight to begin with, and ate way too much when I was pregnant gaining a whopping 55 pounds!!
----------

yes... it has to do with the amount of protein in your urine and yes any pregnant women can develop it. i did and had to deliver at 36 weeks...  (+ info)

What are the chances of having pre-eclampsia in the 35th week?

My doctor made me spend the day in the hospital yesterday because of my blood pressure and protien in my urine. Altough the test results came back negative, she is still sending me for weekly evaluations. Obviously, this is a serious issue if all that is neccesary. Has anyone else gone through this? if so, what happened? I am very nervous now.
----------

Yes - it's totally possible. Stay down as much as possible, keep your salt intake low as that will also affect your blood pressure. You have a few weeks left - you can do this for your baby.  (+ info)

Can I have a normal pregnancy after pre-eclampsia?

Last year I had a miscarriage at 23 weeks due to pre-eclampsia (high blood pressure and kidney problem) at the beginning of my pregnancy which is very unusual because it's normally happen towards the very end of the normal pregnancy. As a result I am now suffered high blood pressure and kidney damage. After 12 months monitoring my health my doctor gave the green light to try again. I want to know anyone has the same problem and what happen to your subsequent pregnancy. Thanks

I would like to know the answer to this as well. I had preeclampsia with my first pregnancy and delivered my son via c section at 24 weeks. He is fine though. Im so sorry you lost your baby. Were you tested for any clotting disorders? After my son, I was tested and came up positive for MTHFR. I am currently pregnant with my second and I am terrified that its going to come back and I won't be so lucky this time. :( Any success stories would be great!  (+ info)

what is pre eclampsia? What is the treatment for it, does it repeat in every pregnancy, how can v prevant it?

My wife had pre eclampsia in last pregnancy, she is 16 Weeks pregnant now, We r giving her Enoxaparin Sodium 20 mg Subcutanous as a precautionary medicine along with Aspirin 37.5 mg.
----------

Pre eclampsia is pregnancy induced hypertension - or high blood pressure. Treatment usually includes a high protein diet and bed rest.

My midwife stated that pre eclampsia usually only occurs in a first pregnancy, and will not recur with subsequent children. There are exceptions to that, however, and your wife should be monitored carefully.

Quick question - did the doctor advise/prescribe the medication your wife is taking? And if so, did he know that she was pregnant at the time? Or has he been informed of her pregnancy since? If not, call the doctor immediately to inform him - they may alter treatment.  (+ info)

Can you still have a baby if you had pre-eclampsia?

If you've been diagnosed once with pre-eclampsia, can you have more children later? Someone I work with was told she should never get pregnant again or it might cost her her life. How do you revent pre-eclampsia?
----------

I'm not sure how to prevent it, but my doctor discovered my pre-eclampsia when I went in for my pre-op appointment to deliver my twins. I was 36 weeks + 6 days at the time. My doctor never told me to avoid a future pregnancy, and I'm pregnant with a singleton right now. I'm sure in some cases that the pre-eclampsia case is so serious that the doctor might recommend that the woman diagnosed with it not endanger her life by becoming pregnant again. One of my former coworkers, back when I was still in the workforce, was told never to have another baby because her blood pressure was naturally high and she and her unborn baby almost died on her first and only experience with pregnancy. Probably, each case is different. A lot of women in danger due to rising blood pressure during pregnancy are put on bed rest at their doctor's recommendation, to keep the baby in for as long as possible before delivery becomes the only option to save both mother and baby's lives.  (+ info)

Has any one had a mild case of pre eclampsia?

I'm 38 weeks pregnant and have just found out i'm in the very early stages. Have any ladies had this and what was the out come when you found out?
Thanks foxy baby, my b/p was a little high and had protein in urine but is back to normal again. Have to have bloods taken again and find out results on monday.
----------

Since you are at 38 weeks your baby really is in a safe spot to be delivered. Most doctors consider 38 weeks full term.

As for the preeclampsia, did they put you on lobatelol? Or are they just monitoring you?

I had bad preeclampsia with my 2nd child and controlled preeclampsia with my 3rd child.

If they can keep your blood pressure down enough they typically will let you have a vaginal birth. However some doctors if you b/p is too high they will recommend a c-section because it is less strain on your heart.

Right now you can do the following to help control your b/p naturally:
1. lower your salt intake
2. rest a lot
3. avoid caffeine
4. avoid stress

Pre-eclampsia and blood work results in late pregnancy?

Hello, I am 37 weeks pregnant and my doctor said that my blood work is showing mild pre-eclampsia. He did more blood work today and said that if the results show that it is continuing to get worse then they will induce me. Does any one know what they are looking for in my blood work here? What specifically is the doctor looking for to increase / decrease or whatever?/

Thank You for your answers,
----------

I had severe pre-eclampsia. I went full term because my dr was out of town. The morning he arrived back I went into labor. While he was away I went to the er and after care several times seeking help because I knew something was wrong. My doctor had watched my protein levels in urine and my blood pressure but never told me they were bothersome. When I would go to the er or after hours they would check my blood. When they were doing this it was to check my kidney and liver function! I delivered my son and two days after release I went back to after hours and insisted something was wrong. They told me the only cure was to have the baby so just to continue on bed rest. They did take blood at this time. The next morning we received a call from my dr telling me that the after hours faxed my blood work results to get the the emergency room immediatly. When I got outa bed my face was swollen and we went right to the er. I was hospitalized put on I.V. fluid to stop me from going into eclampsia and had a nurse that did not leave my bedside. I was only there 24 hours but my doctor called in a different doctor to care for me and I was then finally diagnosed.... with not just pre-e but severe pre-e! I had fluid on my brain, my kidneys were begingin to fail, and my liver was inflamed. I lost 20 lbs in 24 hours in fluid retentiopn. Meaning I urinated 20 POUNDS ! It was horrible. Ask more questions do more research. Alot of people dont know much about pre- eclampsia the best work I did was my own research. Do not let it go to far. You know your own body and if you feel uncomfortable at any time seek another doctors opinion! Good luck and if you are showing mild pre-e what the hell is the dr waiting for????? Severe????  (+ info)

What are the different fetal outcomes in cases of pre-eclampsia and/or ecclampsia?

Is this a test question?

Remember that pre-eclampsia = high BP + protein in urine (swelling)

Eclampsia = pre-eclampsia + neurological symptoms

How does this effect the baby? With high BP the placenta does not
get enough blood. Not enough blood in the placenta, means insufficient blood to baby, which can lead to many problems, but usually low birth weight and prematurity.

If you truly need "fetal outcomes" maybe you need numbers on fetal death and disabilty rates for one vs the other.
