what priorities would a nurse have to a patient with a pressure ulcer?

keep the patient moving so the pressure is not always in the same spot -- an air mattress will do this. keep the wound clean and covered, but sometimes expose to air. when I worked with hospice, the nurses would take mylanta -- do not shake -- apply thickened part to the wound. (this is not a medical solution -- but if it works.... If decubidi are not cared for they can turn gangrenous and need debrieding ...which is a medical way of saying remove the infected parts, which results in the wound getting larger.  (+ info)

What could a low diastolic blood pressure reading (in the 70's) be the cause for?

My blood pressure has usually been pretty normal. Yesterday my diastolic was very low, in the 70's, BUT I've been out of my ulcer medication for over two months and have been very sick on a daily basis with that.. Could that have caused the change in the reading? The tech is the one who noted it on the chart and the doc never brought it up when she came into the room for my appointment.

Systolic first number, Diastolic second number 120/70. Systolic pressure is the number that is recorded when your heart is at work, Diastolic is at rest. A textbook normal is 120/70, repetitive diastolic values over 90 are concerning, that is generally when your care provider starts you on a "water pill" or mild blood pressure pill and has you limit your sodium intake, lose weight. I would not worry about a 70 diastolic number, I'd be quite pleased. Now if your systolic number was 70, I'd be very concerned, and you would feel very weak, dizzy and lightheaded. Doc did not bring it up the BP, because it was within normal range. Hope this explains things.  (+ info)

Is it possible to have an ulcer but just one symptom?

I was told I could possibly have an ulcer and need to see my PMP. I have stomach pain mostly in my lower abdomen. I do not get heartburn and only sometimes it hurts when I eat or drink. I also feel immense pressure down there and I am extremely fatigued. I am in college so I am three hours away from my Physician and cannot make it there until next week sometime. Anyone else experienced something like this?

It is possible to have more that one ulcer without any symptoms at all. I know from personal experience when the doctor stuck a tube down my throat and took some colorful pictures of my stomach. Ulcers galore, small but ulcers just the same and never a twinge of pain. He prescribed pills, which hopefully should have cleared up the problem.  (+ info)

Can a ulcer cause severe pressure in the top part of the breastbone and severe back pain?

I went to the er with abdominal pain and back pain and they told me it was an ulcer. It makes sence because i ate spicy food before with lemon. Ime only 15. They prescribed me a pain killer and pepcid which both dont seem to be working. At the er they only took blood test and urine test thats all. They went by symptoms i guess. Can an ulcer really cause real bad back pain and pressure not stinging in the abdominal. Its bad enough to keep me in bed, but not bad enough to go back to the er. Someone please give me advice
