Which behavioural habits or lifestyle is seen in men under 25 linked to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)?

Is there a common group that suffer from repeat prostatitis?
----------

Men under 25 years hardly ever have BPH.It's a disorder of the 5th-6th decade of life.
That said, however,Prostatitis is a different kettle of fish altogether.Retrograde ejaculation (such as occurs sometimes during furtive masturbation) and urethritis (either sexually transmitted or otherwise) have roles to play in the pathophysiology of Prostatitis.
These 2 factors are commoner in men between 18-35 years.  (+ info)

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia.?

I have been told that I have an enlarged prostate. I have had problems with it since my mid 20s. I am now only 28.
Should I get a tested regularly for cancer or should I not worry about that until I am older.
Please leave sources.
Thanks

All of that and still no answer to your question!

You are very young to have BPH so I understand your concern. Prostate cancer in older men do far better than younger men and young in prostate cancer terms is under 55. I’m sorry I don’t have a resource to send you to. I am answering based on my experience dealing with cancer cases everyday and having an ex-husband who is a urologist. It doesn’t hurt to be tested periodically so I would do it, but I wouldn’t spend time worrying about it either. You may want to consider clinical trials for young men with BPH. This way you will be followed closely by doctors who are very interested in prostate cancer and are researching it. This way if you should get it, especially if you are young, it gives you the best chance of overcoming it.

Is red wine bad for those who have BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia)?

Hi elmo. I just did a 'quick review' of the medical literature on this issue on Pubmed/Medline. Several medical studies suggest a slight decreased risk of BPH in men who consume alcohol on a regular basis. Based on these studies it is not likely that red wine will help (serve as treatment) but a glass of red wine with dinner probably does no harm.

Hope this is helpful for you. Best wishes.  (+ info)

benign prostatic hyperplasia?

So i had this exam today and this was a question.....

Your patient comes in to the ER with SEVERE symptoms of BPH, what would be your most immediate concern?

a. renal calculi
b. renal insufficiency
c. prostate cancer

.....any ideas??
thank you! that was the answer i went with. i was between renal calc and renal insufficiency, but i figured renal insufficiency would be the most logical to pick and plus if they had renal calc they have severe pain in the flank area...and i don't think BPH has flank pain...just bladder pain. thanks for the help!!!
----------

Well I am not a doc but the renal insufficiency will kill quicker than the rest and must be ruled out first. Renal calculi can cause pain & blockage, but if the kidney isn't funcioning properly, it won't flush it out. If it's prostate ca you still have nothing to loose by checking kidney function first. At least you will know the if the kidney is killing them now. Make sense?  (+ info)

can masturbation cause enlarged prostate or benign prostatic hyperplasia or any other problem? plz be specifi?

i know its written in all sites that masturbation is gud for relieving tension, alternative to sex can prevent prostate cancer later in life but there was a medical report that i saw recently which stated men who masturbate regularly in their teens and 20s are more likely to develop prostate problems in 20s and 30s. but i don't understand if this is true or not. is masturbating regularly everyday OK or will it cause u urinary incontinence or impotency later in life?? i have read a lot but there was this one report which really shocked me which said masturbation can cause problems in 20s & 30s. as all muscles become weak so will the pelvic and bladder ones which can cause impotence, dribbling. do u know these??
----------

You can't believe everything you read on the internet. Even if someone claims to be medically qualified, how can you be certain? Masturbation is the same physiologically as sexual intercourse; and if sex doesn't cause these problems, why would masturbation? All body functions are designed to be used regularly, so why would our sexual functions be different? These two links are to proper medical research which indicates that masturbation is healthy:

The UK government has recently produced a leaflet advising all teenagers to masturbate, stating that they have "a right to an orgasm per day". The UK has the highest rate of teenage pregnancy in Europe, and masturbation is a completely safe alternative to sex.  (+ info)

What is the difference between hyperplasia and dysplasia- and can anyone give me a reference for it?

I can't seem to find a book or journal article that specifically defines the difference between dysplasia and hyperplasia- any help would be much appreciated!
----------

Hyperplasia is a general term referring to the proliferation of cells within an organ or tissue beyond that which is ordinarily seen

Dysplasia is a term used in pathology to refer to an abnormality of development.

Hyperplasia = excessive normal cells which are benign.
Dysplasia = excessive abnormal cells which can become malignant.  (+ info)

What are they symptoms of a ruptured Focal Nodular Hyperplasia?

I was diagnosed with Focal nodular hyperplasia, which is a type of benign tumor on the liver. I've been having a lot of pain lately. Along with tingling sensations that just started today. I was wondering if anyone knew the symptoms of a ruptured Focal nodular hyperplasia. I can't find any info online about it. Thanks so much.
----------

Pain is the only symptom. If you look under
"presentation"of this web page, you will see it mentioned.
I definitely would have it checked out right away. From the second article that
talks about rupture...it is very rare.

Usually what symptoms a patient has
with a tumor, will only increase if there
becomes a problem with it.

Wish I could tell you more.  (+ info)

Are fibroids, endometrial hyperplasia or polyps a precursor to cancer?

I'm 44 and had heavy menstrual bleeding. Ultrasounds and MRI showed three small fibroids, focal complex hyperplasia and polyps. I've been trying natural remedies which have improved menses dramatically, no longer heavy, nor as painful. Should I still have hysteroscopy or other procedure done, or does the resolution of symptoms mean I'm OK?
----------

Not a precursor to cancer. Chances are the pain and bleeding will return. Interuterine scraping is another option, but I hear it is painful and not always effective. Hysterectomy may be another option for you if you just want to be done all together.  (+ info)

How would you prevent intimal hyperplasia?

Intimal hyperplasia is the universal response of a vessel to injury and is an important reason of late bypass graft failure, particularly in vein and synthetic vascular grafts.
----------

Low dose beta radiation seems to be a goer.
Antioxidants seem not to be useful.

Femoropopliteal PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) bypass with distal AS interposition provides improved graft patency and limb salvage rates when compared with those published in the literature for PTFE bypass without the (distal arterial segment) AS.  (+ info)

What is atypical hyperplasia of the breast?

Mine is not cancerous, but can it turn into cancer, and what can I do to prevent it from turning into cancer. Right now they have me on tomxafin.
----------

You're already doing what you should do, taking the tomixafin. Atypical hyperplasia means that the cells are abnormal, but not cancerous. It does put you at a higher risk in developing cancer. If you have family history that raises the risk. But because you've discovered this you will be monitoring very closely and if indeed something turns up, you'll be ready. Tomixafin is the treatment of choice because it works...so try not to worry too much.  (+ info)
