Does anyone have a relief suggestion for Prurigo of Pregnancy?

My wife has real bad Prurigo of Pregnancy. I hate to see her in so much agony with the itch. Nothing the doctors have given us has made any difference. It actually seems to make it worse. I hate to say it but these military doctors seem inept sometimes and it would not supprise me if they had no clue what they were talking about.
----------

SARNA is an itch relief lotion that doesn't have steroids in it.

It's okay for pregnant ladies to take BENADRYL, my parents are doctors and said it was safe. My OB/gyn said its safe so go get her some Benadryl and Sarna lotion.

Eucerin anti itch calming cream is also very good. She has to stop taking hot showers, use coolest water possible. Stop using soaps, lotions, or laundry products that have scent and dye.

Here's the list of stuff you need to get:
Laundry detergent:All Free Clear has no dye and no perfume
Fabric Softener: Downy makes unscented/no dye liquid
Bath Soap: Dove unscented bar soap
Itch stopping pills: Benadryl
Itch lotions: SARNA and Eucerin

Best of luck to you all.  (+ info)

Has anyone had prurigo of pregnancy (or prurigo gestationis) from the very first month you were pregnant?

Is it more serious the earlier on you get it? Does it get worse and worse as the pregnancy goes on? I just have maybe 10 little bug bite like bumps on my legs… wondering how bad it is going to get.

Has anyone been cured of Prurigo Nodularis?

I am due to go for UVB treatment but was told this could leave me vulnerable to cancer. I am so badly scarred that I'm willing to risk it, but would be greatful if anyone knows of another cure/treatment. My main problem areas are my arms, shoulders, back and bottom!

How can improve from PRURIGO NODULARIS skin disease ?

Due to the intensity of the itch patients often go from doctor to doctor looking for relief. No one treatment is always effective and several treatments may need to be tried. Initial treatment is often potent prescription steroid creams. If these help, a milder cream can be used for longer-term control. Antihistamine creams (Zonalon, Pramoxine) or pills (Atarax, Periactin) are often added for additional relief. Intralesional steroid injections, anti-depressant pills, and non-prescription Zostrix cream helps many of those not improved with the usual treatment.

Severe and resistant cases can be controlled with cryotherapy (freezing the sores with liquid nitrogen spray), oral steroids or PUVA. Of course, try not to scratch the spots. In resistant cases blood tests and biopsy of the sores may be needed to look for a cause driving the PN.  (+ info)

PUPPP VS Prurigo of Pregnancy?

I have PUPPPs but i think the doctor misdiagnosed me.My signs are different, they suite more to Prurigo of Pregnancy, and if they did is their anyhting that i can do to stop the inferal ITCHING. I have tried every cream lotion and anti histamine, And nothing is working.
----------

I've got puppp and it's so horrible. I don't think it really matters what the rash is called, it's all due to hormonal incompatibility or allergy. Anyway, nothing worked for me. hydrocortizone cream works moderately. I hear rainier soap works pretty well for some other people. I just ordered mine online and I'm waiting for it to come in now.

I feel your pain.  (+ info)

Prurigo Nodularis, a skin condition due to emotional traumas. Any cures for this?

Dark marks over all the body turn to crust and open woonds. Extremely itchy
----------

Sorry, there is no specific treatment for this. It is a matter of finding what works for you. Medicine already knows that it is nervous and mental conditions that cause the itchy lumps so you must get to the root of what is causing your nervousness or mental condition.

To try to control the itching, doctors usually prescribe very potent steriod creams. Antihistamine creams or pills can be ordered for extra relief. If those don't work, anti-depressants may help. Severe cases or those that are resistant can be treated with cryotherapy (freezing of the spots).  (+ info)

I have been diagnosed with "Prurigo Nodularii"?

Does anyone else have this? I am really upset as there is no cure.
----------

No, I haven't got it.
It seems that the more people stress about it the more it itches and the worse it gets. There is a lot of information on the link

Prognosis
It is unusual for lesions to resolve spontaneously. They may lessen in severity with treatment but tend to persist over time. If the itch/scratch cycle can be completely broken then there is a chance of cure but this is not the norm.  (+ info)

Have been diagnosed with a skin disease callled prurigo nodularis. has anyone else got it?

No, but...
It predominantly affects the extensor aspects of the lower limbs, but also commonly affects the arms and sometimes other areas of the body. Calcitonin gene-related peptide and substance P immunoreactive nerves are markedly increased in number and activity in the skin of prurigo nodularis sufferers compared with normal skin. Whether this represents a causative aetiology or arises as a result of chronic scratching and skin irritation is not known.

Prognosis
It is unusual for lesions to resolve spontaneously. They may lessen in severity with treatment but tend to persist over time. If the itch/scratch cycle can be completely broken then there is a chance of cure but this is not the norm.

Psychological distress and depression in predisposed subjects may play a key role in inducing a pruritic sensation, leading to the scratching that perpetuates the condition (the 'itch-scratch cycle').  (+ info)
