How does acupuncture treat pruritus ani? How successful is acupuncture in treating pruritus ani?

In Chinese medicine, there are acupuncture points and herbal formulae that treat this condition very well. I can only speak in theoretical terms, and of course you will need a practitioner to examine you and decide what is causing your sign and symptoms.

An imbalance can cause the anus to become inflamed, burn and/or itch. There are some types of deficiencies that can cause trouble there too. In Chinese medicine, this might be caused by too much heat or excessive dampness. Once your therapist determines what pattern of symptoms you have then they will create a set of acupuncture points to address it (acupuncture points are the specific locations on the body where the needles are inserted). Certain acupuncture points have a cooling effect on the body, while others have a draining effect. Still other acupuncture points have a tonic purpose and some have an impact on the Large Intestine in general. Acupuncture can be very helpful, but I would certainly consider Chinese herbal medicine as well. You will have the best chances for success that way.

I would also suggest you see your medical doctor so that you can rule out causes such as fissures, infections, etc. Please make sure your acupuncturist is qualified and fully trained using Chinese medical principles.  (+ info)

Pain in the butt...pruritus ani?

I've been seeing my doctor a lot latly. He diagnosed me with pruritus ani. Its really been a pain. I've been on suppositories for almost two months now and things havent got any better. I think I got this from a previous yeast infection and possible because I am always working in extreme heat. I was wondering has anyone else had this and has any helpful advice? My doctor is not helping me at all and I dont have the money to keep making appointments anymore...
I was also wondering how serious can this condition get? Right now there is itching, occasional soreness and burning and pain, with reddness, and there is a dark purple color right at the opening. also have a red line down my butt crack. I know, gross, but I dont know what to do any really want to know if anyone can help me with this. It would be much appreciated...

The suppositories might be making the area wetter, thus irritating it, and making a breeding ground for bacteria and fungus, namely yeast. If you dry out the area, then your fungal infection should dry up.

In your shoes, I would go get some sensitive soap for intimate areas, and wash that area as many times as you can per day. If you wash after work, you have about 8 hrs. to walk around in air-conditioning. Maybe when you are relaxing (and either alone or in very familiar company) rest with your legs open and a fan blowing on the area to dry it out.

Then wash before bed.  (+ info)

The first step in treating a parasitic infection is to get a proper diagnosis. This is mainly dependent on a stool analysis.

NOTE: the natural treatment of parasitic infection should be done under the guidance of a knowledgeable health-care practitioner or a doctor.

Supplements-
1. Black walnut - 30drops or 250 mg, 3/day.
2. Wormwood- 20 drops or 200 mg, 3/day with meals.
3. Oregano oli - 500 mg capsule, 4/day.
4. Grapefruit seed extract- take as directed on the container for a powerful antiparasitic effect.
5.Goldenseal- 30 drops or 300 mg, 4/day.
6.Ginger - 500 mg, or 20drops of the tincture, or 1 cup of fresh tea- 4/day.
7. Probiotic, containing at least 4 billion active organisms, 2/day.

Diet- sugar products should be reduced or avoided to optimize the health of your immune system.

Fresh garlic, ginger, and onions are excellent as prepared foods, because they have antiparasitic effects.
Raw pumpkin seeds kills worms and parasites. They can be ground up if desired. Consume 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup daily with 8 oz of water.
Papaya juice has antiworm effects.

Personal Hygiene Changes -The following practices will help reduce the risk of continuous self-reinfection:

Bathe when you wake up to help reduce egg contamination.

Change and wash your underwear each day. Frequent changing of night clothes is recommended.

Change underwear, night clothes and sheets after each treatment. Because the eggs are sensitive to sunlight, open blinds or curtains in bedrooms during the day.

Personal hygiene should include washing hands after going to the toilet, before eating and after changing diapers.

Keep fingernails trimmed short.

Discourage nail-biting and scratching the bare anal region.  (+ info)

Pruritus Ani (Itchy Bottom) question.?

I have a persistent itch around my anus area particulary at night before going to bed for about 3 months, besides itching there isn't any other symptoms besides small amount of bleeding from constant scratching. I am worried, could it be a symptom of anal cancer? I am 28 years old. Thanks.

Congratulations! you are the proud parent of a family of pinworms (enterobius spp.)! It is quite common in developed countries, though some people a almost asymptomatic. The treatment is albendazole or mebendazole, which are both usually well tolerated and don't cause too many problems. Immediately after reading this, start washing your hands more often, even with treatment, the itchy anus can lead you to scratch and later you touch something and eventually it gets into your mouth and the eggs get back into you.  (+ info)

a pain in the bum (pruritus ani)?

well i guess the title says it all. it is however not so much pain as itch. ive googled it and found about a billion things i dont have. id be very greatful for any help.

Symptoms
the feeling that there is something "sticking out" of my bum.

im afraid its terribly complicated to explain. somethings up, no doubt about that but "itch" is really the closest i can get to describing it. the power of suggestion has done much to distort my experience of it but i would describe it as a feeling that a worm is hanging out and wiggleing about. i havent seen any worms in my stool though.
(this is incredably embarrasing to write about even with the shield of annonymity)
hopefully i dont have something deadly like colon cancer.

physical status
21, male, healthy -well otherwise- i just have a tendency not to get sick, on the thin side (always have been -probbably not tapeworm), and i havent engaged in anal sex, i live in sweden - probbably not tropical bujabujawhatever worm

grateful for any reply

Sometimes hemorrhoids can cause lots of itching and a feeling that something is "hanging out or wiggling". Hemorrhoids not only occur on the outside, they can develop on the inside too. You won't know for sure unless you see a doctor  (+ info)

Itchy anus (pruritus ani)?

Hi there

I've had this condition for a long time now, and am too embarrassed to go to the doctor about it. Basically during the day it's fine, but during the evening while I sleep I itch my anus. Almost as soon as I lie down and try to sleep it starts to itch. I'm pretty sure it's not worms or anything like that, I've never seen any my stool and tried the sticky tape technique and didn't see any. It's driving me crazy, because there's nothing I can do about it because I do it in my sleep.

I've tried using creams, but it still itches. It also hurts when I wipe because I continually aggravate the problem when I scratch at night. I've tried wetting the toilet paper, just dabbing with it, but it doesn't help.

It's driving me crazy and I don't know what to do!
Please help

What are some good ideas for tattoos related to Ani DiFranco?

I want to get a tattoo, probably on my wrist, but possibly somewhere else. I want to get something related to Ani DiFranco, either lyrics or images or song titles.. any ideas?
----------

I love tattoos and I love Ani DiFranco, but getting a tattoo relating to Ani Difranco is a terrible idea. I'm sorry you if you think this is rude, but i assure you I have your best interest in mind. Ani Difranco is a unique sole and she is definitely a great inspiration, and if you listen to her I'm sure you are as well, I think you need to come up with something completely unique, an icon that inspires you. She is a humble person and I'm sure that if you ever met her and told her that you had a tattoo inspired by her on you, she would be a little creeped out.  (+ info)

What do you know about Levator Ani Syndrome?

I have been having a pain in my buttox since early december. I saw a colorecal surgeon and had a scope in - to rule out an abscess or fissure. She is treating me for levator ani s. I can't take muscle relaxers all day, I am a full-time student and have a full time job.
Anyway, any advice or medical suggestions will be great!
Thanks!
----------

Levator Ani Syndrome (also known as levator syndrome and proctodynia) is episodic rectal pain, caused by spasm of the levator ani muscle. The etiology is unknown.

Symptoms include a dull ache high in the rectum and a feeling of constant rectal pressure or burning. The pain may also be felt in the low pelvis or perineum.

The discomfort may be relieved by walking or pelvic tightening exercises similar to Kegel exercises. Other treatments include massage of the muscle, warm baths, muscle relaxant medications, and biofeedback. Electrical stimulation of the levator ani muscle has been used to try to break the spastic cycle. Injection of botulinum toxin A has also been used.

Variants of levator ani syndrome include proctalgia fugax (fleeting pain in the rectum) and coccydynia (pain in the coccygeal region). Proctalgia fugax and levator ani syndrome have not been found to be of psychosomatic origin, although stressful events may trigger attacks.
